Hagerstown Suns Field StaffPatrick Anderson - ManagerAnderson will be suiting up in a Suns uniform for a sixth season. The Suns all-time leader in wins (363), has led Hagerstown to two playoff berths in his five seasons at the helm.

In the 2014 season, his first as manager of the club, Anderson led the Suns to the South Atlantic League Championship Series.

Prior to his time in the Hub City, Anderson led the Gulf Coast Nationals to a league championship and their best winning percentage in team history. His journey in baseball began as the hitting instructor for the Kansas City Royals in 2001. He stayed in that role until 2008, when he took a break from affiliated baseball to accept his first head coaching job at Hofstra University. He led the pride baseball team from 2009-12.

The Silver Springs, Maryland native played professionally from1995-97 for the Chillicothe Paints and the Zanesville Greys of the Frontier League. Anderson spent the majority of his 181 independant league games behind the dish, but also played both corner infield positions and made a few starts in the outfield. The two-time all-star made his living at the plate, where through three seasons, he maintained a .287 average to pair with a .382 on-base percentage. His final season, he hit .307 and made it to base safely more than 40 percent of the time he came to the dish.

Hagerstown Suns Field StaffMack Jenkins - Pitching CoachWhile Jenkins is in his first season with both the Suns and the Nationals organization, he is by no means new to the game. Jenkins has spent the last 32 years in the Cincinnati Reds system, after play-ing in the Reds’ minor league system from 1986-88 and coaching at various levels, ending as the pitch-ing coach for the MLB Reds from 2016-18.

Jenkins will be starting the 2019 in Greensboro-- where he played his final 18 games in his final sea-son as a player for the Greensboro Hornets, who were still a member of the South Atlantic League.

Jenkins spent two seasons (1990-91) as the pitching coach for the Rookie-level Billings before moving to Double-A Chattanooga (1996-2001) and spending a few seasons with Triple-A Louisville (2002-05) before becoming the Reds Minor League Pitching Coordinator from 2006-11.

The former Major Leaguer was signed as an inter-national free agent by the Florida Marlins in 1992.After stopping with eight teams in the minors, Garcia recorded a .291 batting average in 889 games while launching nearly 1,000 hits.

2018 Suns Season RecapThe 2018 Hagerstown Suns embodied the ideology of development in Minor League Baseball. The Nationals’ Sin-gle-A Affiliate sent right fielder Juan Soto all the way to the majors.

The 19-year-old played 19 games for the Suns, clipping .376 and driving in 24 runs in 59 at-bats in the South Atlantic League. The Dominican-native earned 3.0 WAR in 116 games with the Wash-ington Nationals, while averaging .292 and hit-ting 22 bombs.

It didn’t take long for Soto to leave his mark in Hagerstown. In the Suns’ 10th game of the year, the lefty hit a walk-off two-out single to lift the Suns 5-4 over the Greensboro GrassHop-pers for their first win at Historic Municipal Sta-dium in 2018.

Hagerstown finished with four walk-off victories in 2018. The lone walk-off homer of the year was a solo shot from Alex Flores in game two of a June 6 doubleheader against the Lakewood BlueClaws. Flores also completed the final walk-off of the season August 1 against the Lexington Legends, reach-ing on an error in the 10th that plated Omar Meregildo.

Soto was not the only highlight to come through the Hub City in Hag-erstown’s 52-81 2018 campaign. Nick Raquet and Nick Banks were named the club’s mid-season all-stars. Raquet, a southpaw and 2017 third-round draft pick started 12 games in Hagerstown, finishing the year with a 2.79 ERA and 56 punchouts before being promoted to Potomac in mid-June. Out of Tex-as A&M, Banks averaged .260 in 56 games, notching six homers for the Suns before moving to Potomac.

The squad finished the first-half 27-41 after stumbling out of the gates with a 7-17 record in April. Branden Bogget-to mirrored Soto offensively in the first half, averaging .344 with a .422 OBP in 29 games with the Suns before moving up to Potomac at the start of June. Next

to him in the infield, shortstop Luis Garcia put up impressive numbers in May after a tough April. The 18-year-old notched hits in 21 of 27 games he played in for the Suns. The shortstop received a 2019 non-roster invite to spring training for the Nationals.

While many play-ers were promoted near the end of the first half, Hagerstown still saw a lot of talented players come into

the fold to finish the 2018 campaign. 2018 second round pick, left-handed pitcher, Tim Cate finished the season donning a Suns cap, getting the call-up from Auburn August 15. Cate finished the season with two consecutive qual-ity starts at West Virginia and versus Kannapolis, who were in a dead-heat for the Northern Division wildcard berth down the stretch.

As the Suns came down the stretch, they played their best baseball of the 2018 season. After finishing July with a 12-15 record, they went on a five-game tear from August 11-16, their longest of the season. During the stretch, they outscored the Charleston RiverDogs and eventual South Atlantic League Champion Lexington Legends 21-10.

In a rain affected season for the entire league, the Suns had 23 games cancelled or postponed due to rain.
