Dear Friends,
For nearly eighty years, United Way of New York City (UWNYC) has been a critical partner to the business sector in creating long-lasting social change in our City. Our expertise in community solutions positions us as a backbone, along with our unique convening power and influence—helping us to build a New York City where all individuals have access to quality education and the opportunity to lead healthy and financially secure lives. UWNYC is helping New Yorkers by uniting communities, organizations, and government to ensure families living in poverty —or on the brink of it—can make ends meet.
From this unique vantage point, UWNYC is positioned within the NYC business community to develop meaningful, sustainable Corporate Social Responsibility programs, which are strategically aligned to your business goals. More than just a way to give back to the local community, a partnership with UWNYC provides employers and employees with exclusive benefits, including employee engagement and leadership development, access to our women’s leadership and young professionals networks, customized volunteer opportunities to foster team building and boost morale, diversity and inclusion opportunities, and opportunities for elevating your brand. Our team at UWNYC looks forward to helping guide your company in reaching your goals, and having you be a part of the United Way network!
Thank you for your dedication and inspiring collaboration. I look forward to continuing our partnership and impacting New York City!

Our Theory of ChangeUnited Way of New York City (UWNYC) is committed to helping New Yorkers living in neighborhoods of concentrated poverty make meaningful and measurable progress toward the pivotal milestone of self-sufficiency.
To strategically reach that milestone, we are taking a “two-generation” approach. We’re focusing on children’s educations at the same time as their parents’ financial stability. By helping them simultaneously, our impact aims to be powerful and sustainable for generations to come.
Because a strong education is the building block for success, we focus our work on ReadNYC—our signature program that meets the key goals of healthy births, early development, and reading proficiently by third grade. ReadNYC fortifies families, schools, and communities through one-on-one tutoring, expanded-day programs, summer literacy, parent engagement, professional development, and more. The program, alongside our EducateNYC, FeedNYC, and in-development WorkNYC programs, is giving families the foundation to stand on their own two feet and become self-sufficient.

About United Way of New York CityNew York City is made up of more than 8.4 million people. This is the city of possibility—the Big Apple—where dreams are made. But for our 2.7 million neighbors who can’t cover the basics that’s not the case. They struggle with impossible decisions everyday—food or rent, heat or healthcare. This is not okay.
For nearly 80 years, United Way of New York City has been a voice for our most-vulnerable neighbors, while also connecting our NYC business community. From our unique position at the intersection of business, government, and nonprofits, we are poised to bring our City’s change-makers to the table to create and deliver on aligned, collective strategies that will move our fellow New Yorkers along the path to self-sufficiency—the ability to cover the basics without need for public or private assistance.
How we set our strategies is simple, clear, and effective. We call it The 4 D’s.

DEVELOPING YOUR CORPORATE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY PROGRAMUnited Way of New York City engages the business sector as a critical stakeholder in social change. Together with our corporate partners, we drive lasting impact in our City —identifying and deploying solutions to our community’s toughest challenges.
Participation in our Corporate Citizenship Program not only provides you with a seat at the table for our collective impact work, but also offers a variety of ways to achieve your business and corporate social responsibility (CSR) goals.
UWNYC supports your company through our partnership by working with you to develop everything from talent mangement to guiding philanthropic principals—all by helping build your CSR program. Using the 4D’s—our philosophy for setting strategy—we can help your company diagnose, design, deploy, and drive toward your CSR goals.
DIAGNOSE
DIAGNOSE First, UWNYC helps companies conduct a deep dive “diagnosis” to fully examine the goals and objectives of your corporate social responsibility efforts. Leveraging our rich experience and
expertise, we help identify what values rise to the top for your organization, and pinpoint the right opportunities for its executives, managers, staff and our local community. This “diagnose” stage identifies a company’s needs from a variety of perspectives:
• Leadership
• Business Practices
• Human Capital
• Brand Capital
• Talent Acquisition & Retention
• Development
• Diversity & Inclusion
• Innovative Impact
DESIGN
DESIGN Next, UWNYC will conduct a CSR planning session to “design” a customized annual corporate engagement program to move employees from occasional participation to true engagement.
Using the corporate and cultural intelligence gathered through the diagnose phase, UWNYC develops an action plan that can include, but is not limited to:
• Monthly employee engagement calendar
• Next-generation, digital philanthropy platform
• Year-round portfolio of team-building opportunities
• Annual strategic communications plan
• Actionable community investment portfolio
• Opportunities to partner with a company’s clients on CSR intiatives
• Hands-on, in-community volunteerism
• Skills-based volunteerism opportunities
• Employee Resource Group development
• Enhanced brand visibility
• Formal and informal professional development opportunities
• New client and strategic relationship building
• Flagship networking events
• Leadership workshops, coaching and keynote conversations
• Training to secure strategic nonprofit board placements
• Enhanced brand and CSR awareness campaign

DEPLOY
DEPLOY Once your annual engagement program has been fully designed, UWNYC will assign an experienced management team to work closely with your company to “deploy” the program within your
organization. By activating the carefully crafted engagement plan, your employees across the entire organization will undergo a fundamental change in how they act, think, and experience the impact they can have in their community through their employer; the strengthened alliances and stronger working relationships with both existing and new clients; and the increased brand equity that distinguishes your organization from its competitors.
DRIVE
DRIVE Finally, we “drive” true engagement beyond the merely transactional aspects of charitable giving, to the transformational investment of the organization’s time, talent, and treasure to
create outsized impact where you and your employees operate and reside. UWNYC helps our partners create value through social change and empowers organizations with the data to deeply understand the community impact associated with their investment.
