Glittering glass beads complete the chandelier running the height of the building in the old lift shaft and the blend of fabrics and wallpapers with clever lighting, art and design creates a space that doesn’t just look right, it feels right.

1911 was the year that The Roseate Reading was built as the Shire Hall for Berkshire County Council. Admire the historic detailing, wide hallways and high vaulted ceilings of this Grade I listed building. Take in the passion of the astounding artworks and go away appreciating life that little bit more.

With a maximum capacity of up to 150 people for stand up reception styled events and 80 for sit down dinners, it is the ideal setting for any festive event from a cocktail reception to a black tie dinner dance.

We are always willing to personalise and customise any event exactly to your liking, but in any case we have created a range of different offers available throughout the month of December, just to point you in the right direction.

‘‘Learn to Wrap-It’’Gift Wrapping MasterclassWhen it comes to Christmas gifts, first impressions count. That’s why it’s so important that your thoughtful Christmas gifts for friends and family this year are wrapped with care and presented beautifully.

Join The Roseate Reading and impress your family and friends by learning how to beautifully wrap your Christmas presents in our gift wrapping masterclass.

The event will be host by no one other than Jane Means, a specialist and advisor of gift wrapping for many brands including Dior, Jo Malone, Carolina Herrera, Aqua di Parma and Harrods. She has trained staff at Fortnum and Mason, Harrods, Dior, Viktor and Rolf, Fenwick, Crabtree and Evelyn and the Royal Household.

The Cognac of NapoleonCourvoisier MasterclassJoin us at Cerise as you are being taken through the history of Courvoisier We are delighted to present a masterclass with Courvoisier, one of the finest cognac houses in the world. Courvoisier is almost exclusively comprised of Grande Champagne, Petite Champagne, Fin Bois and Borderies, only the very finest crus harvested from the restricted regions in which cognac can legally be made. The grapes are plucked late in the summer and distilled 24 hours a day from November to March in traditional and unusually small 25 hectolitre alembic stills. The eaux-de-vies are aged in handcrafted French oak barrels for a minimum of two and a half years.

Christmas Break ExperienceThe Night BeforeArrive to a welcome drink (including mulled wine) and mince pies then settle into your room and start relaxing ahead of your festive break. In the evening at 7pm, you will have the opportunity to meet your hosts and fellow guests before our celebrated “Tasting Dinner” in our superb Cerise Restaurant accompanied by generous glasses of fine wines to complement the food and put you in the Christmas spirit.

The Three Days Of ChristmasChristmas EveAfter breakfast, you have the morning to spend as you please, perhaps having a gym session, a beauty treatment in our spa (please book in advance) or buying some last-minute gifts at The Oracle Shopping Centre. Then join us on a guided walk at 10am enjoying hot mulled wine and treats en-route whilst seeing Reading river and canal, important Abbey history, Forburys Gardens, Glorious Revolution of 1688 and much much more.

If you would rather stay nice and warm in the hotel, you have the option take part in our festive quiz (and maybe win a prize)! Arrive back in time for an afternoon tea which is served in the lounges in front of the open fire between 2pm and 5pm. The evening will begin with a champagne reception and canapés at 7.30pm before a three course dinner in the Cerise Restaurant. During and after dinner, you will be serenaded by our resident entertainer singing some festive favourites to get you in the spirit. Christmas DayStart the day with a buffet style breakfast and your favourite hot dish cooked to order and have the morning to open your presents and prepare for a fabulous five course Christmas Gala Luncheon at 12pm with all the traditional trimmings, seasonal touches and a glass of champagne.

At 3pm The Queen’s Speech will be aired in one of our cosy lounges and Cinema, with hot drinks and homemade Christmas cake. We’ll be serving a festive buffet dinner in the evening between 6pm and 9pm followed by a movie in our private Cinema.

Booking Terms and ConditionsThese conditions apply to all guests attending our festive season programme; social events;

1. To book your event please contact our events team on 01189 527 770 or email [email protected]. We will be delighted to discuss the menu options available along with your seating preferences and other needs. Please note – we will endeavour to seat large parties together, however due to the nature and individual design of our function suites, this may not always be possible.

2. For Party Nights and New Year’s Eve we strongly recommend arrival drink, wines and champagnes are pre-ordered.

3. Food pre-orders for Party Nights and Festive Lunches must be received 21 days prior to the event.

4. Special requests (e.g. dietary requirements) must be made known to the hotel 21 days before the event. The hotel is unable to honour any change requests made 12 hours prior to the arrival of the event.

5. Deposit of £20.00 per person is required at the time of booking which is non-refundable or transferable. This is not flexible at any point of booking. The balance of the payment must be completed 21 days prior to the event and bookings for which payment is not received by this date may be automatically released and cannot be guaranteed after this time. Any additional charges incurred during the event must be settled prior to departure. All packages are non-transferable or refundable. The hotel does not take responsibility for contacting you to collect final payment.

6. The dress code for all events is dress to impress, no jeans, trainers or t-shirts.
