1 The Cheyenne County Chamber Annual Banquet, Viva Cheyenne County, was held on January 18, 2019, and it was an awesome night to celebrate 2018 and honor those who have made a positive impact on our community. I want to thank everyone who at- tended and enjoyed the night with us. Our members and the community are what make the Chamber possible, and we could not have had the year that we did without all of you. There were many working pieces that had to come together in order to put on the banquet from the generous silent auction item donations from local businesses, to the delicious meal provided by PT Catering, to the service from the SHS Danz Team and Way Out West, and so much more. The Elks Lodge was more than willing to work with us on what we needed, and we appreciate eve- rything they did to help. Dewayne Cook did a wonderful job as the emcee. He announced everything we needed to, kept the pace of the night going, and even provided a little entertainment for guests. We are thankful for the Sidney Singers and Pastor Kyle Lar- son for being there to kick off the night in the best way possible, and for Kim Phillips with Snapshots by Kim for making sure eve- ry award, moment, and detail was captured in pictures. We had great participation on every level of planning and execution for the banquet. The committee put so much time and work into setting it up and they were all a huge part of getting it ready for everyone who came out. Thank you, Marva Ellwanger, John Phillips, Michaela Nelson, Becky Rowan, Steve Wolff, and Dr. Casey Cortney for being there every step of the way to make the An- nual Banquet a success. Josh Arellano and Bodhi Morris were extremely helpful in setting up tables and chairs which made the committee’s job much easier during the preparation the night before and Dawn Graves, Kylie Ellwanger, and Donna Schluckebier helped construct and set up decorations and check-in attendees upon their arrival. Bev Arellano and Sandy Goble were at the forefront of many facets of this event from start to ϐinish and their commitment to producing a quality banquet was immensely appreciated. Multiple Chamber Board Members, community members, and even some special guests volunteered to be dealers for the casino games, and we thank them for sacriϐicing their chance to play to provide the opportunity to everyone else. It was awesome to see our guests stay and enjoy themselves and we are so glad these individuals were there to host! Thank you, John Phillips, Clint Nor- man, Regina Narjes, Drew Enevoldsen, Kelli Chaon, Becky Rowan, Bailee Wolff, Steve Wolff, Brad Sherman, and Robert Cortney for being top-notch dealers! The Sidney Sun Telegraph Annual Banquet 2018 highlight insert was exceptional this year and we cannot even begin to thank everyone at The Sun Telegraph for their effort in designing and producing the booklet. It was so exciting to see our year come to- gether and showcase the work that happened in our community in such an impactful way. They turned out tremendous, and it was all due to the time our local newspaper spent on it. Kevin Kubo and Andrew Sherman were instrumental in completing the plaques that were given to award-winners. Kevin crafted the beautiful wood plaques while the Sidney Public Library Makerspace center was used to add the inscriptions and ϐinishing touches. The plaques were a joint effort from multiple individuals and they really were a labor of love. We had participation and involvement on so many levels for the Annual Banquet and the same can be said for what is happening in our community. The momentum we are experiencing can be felt by all and it is due to the efforts that various community mem- bers have expended on the behalf of Cheyenne County. 2018 was a year for growth and 2019 will continue in the same pattern because of the dedication we have to our home. From all of us at the Cheyenne County Chamber, we thank you for being a part of our story and we are excited to keep writing it with all of you in the years to come! The January LCC class was all about human services. We started the day out with another impac ul session provided by Jamie Weingart. During this me, we gained valuable knowledge on what makes a great leader and what quali es they provide to their teams in order to have buy‐in and par cipa on from others. By providing trust, compassion, stability and hope in our work environments, we will have more effec ve teams and rela onships with those we work with. Lunch was sponsored by Financial Partners and we were accompanied by Greg Huck and Dennis Pankowsky who demonstrated the mu‐tual value of guardianship. Greg is a guardian for Dennis, and they have formed a bond throughout their me together that has been extremely valuable in both of their lives. Greg also expanded on the difference between a guardian and a conservator. A conservator is one who manages finances for an individual while a guardian is there to help make health, job, and other life decisions. If you are inter‐ested in being a guardian or a conservator for a person in need, please contact The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) at the Cheyenne County Court House. We then visited the Office of Human Development (OHD) where Meghan Spyke gave us a tour and showed us what a great resource, we have here in Cheyenne County to build skills and provide varying levels of support for all who receive services. We were then able to meet back up with Dennis and Amy Burton who gave us a tour of a group home where we learned about the daily lives of those OHD helps. OHD does a great job of aiding their clients, but also has them be a key component in every task they complete together. They are not simply finishing tasks for clients but are providing an experience with them. We wrapped up the day with mini‐sessions with mul ple organiza ons star ng with CAPstone Child Advocacy Center which aims to re‐duce the trauma impacted on a child that has been abused. They provide support and advocate for children throughout mul ple steps of the inves ga on process. For more informa on on the work CAPstone does, please visit their website at www.capstonenebraska.com or call 308‐632‐7274. Our next session was with Plains West CASA (Court Appointed Special Advocates) where volunteers watch over and advocate for a child who has been abused or neglected. Volunteers are needed for our area and they play a very important role in the lives of the children they help. For more details and informa on on how to become an advocate through CASA, please call 308‐203‐1120 or visit www.plainswestcasa.org. The DOVES Program was our final session. They provided tons of informa on on various services they offer as well as resources to help iden fy different types of abuse. The DOVES Program specifically targets sexual, domes c and da ng violence. For more informa on on The Doves Program, check out www.DOVESprogram.com. The 24‐hour help hotline is 866‐95‐DOVES (36837).
