Course Introduction

For children aged 5-10, We offer the complete Cambridge suite of Young

Learners courses. In these classes, children use colourful, attractive

textbooks while learning English in a friendly environment. Our intention

is to provide these students with the best possible introduction to and

basic use of English, and so stimulate their interest and give them a

foundation for further progress in the future.

From 2015, we have integrated Phonics and Guided Reading into the

Young Learners courses, which are being taught at Harrow Lower School.

Phonics are the building blocks for children to learn how to spell and how

to read. Guided Reading helps children to read in context at a very early

stage of their language learning. This suits both their language level and

their cognitive ability.

In combination, these courses will provide our young learner with a

systematic way to develop all four key skills in English and help them to

progress to the next levels of study with us.

哈罗北京周六学校为所有 5－10 岁的小学生，提供剑桥少儿英语课程。

课堂内容丰富多彩，教学形式轻松活泼。引人入胜的教科书、纯正的母

语环境、孩子们所喜爱和易于接受的教学方法，这一切将激发学生们的

学习兴趣，使他们喜欢英语爱上英语，为今后的英语学习奠定扎实的基

础。

从去年起，本课程融入了目前在哈罗学校小学英语教学中包含的自然拼

读法以及由教师引导的阅读。自然拼读法是学生学习拼写及阅读的基

础。指导阅读帮助我们的小朋友们在语言能力及其有限的前提下，便可

以在一定的语境下进行阅读。阅读的内容和他们的年龄，语言水平和认

知能力是相匹配的。

通过有效的结合，我们的剑桥少儿英语课程将帮助小朋友们系统的提高

听说读写四项技能，并且在剑桥的体系中不断提高，直到达到预期水

平。

Course Introduction

Students who take the Key for Schools course will be presented

with more challenging listening, reading, writing and most

importantly, speaking exercises. Our aim is to give the students

the ability to function well when using English in certain

situations, and to help them to develop their fluency and

confidence with the language.

Key for Schools is the first level Cambridge ESOL exam. It is

Level A2 of the Council of Europe’s Common European

Framework of Reference for Languages. Although the exam is

at a basic level, it helps you to find out your strengths and

weaknesses. You can then plan further study and go on to take

Preliminary for Schools and the other Cambridge ESOL exams.

Course Introduction

On our Preliminary for Schools course students begin to use

English in a very free and natural way, and we aim to provide great

increases in confidence and fluency for all our students. The class

will cover a wide range of language skills, and we ensure that there

is personal attention for each student from our teachers.

Preliminary for Schools is the second level Cambridge ESOL

exam. It is an intermediate level exam, at Level B1 of the Council

of Europe’s Common European Framework of Reference for

Languages. It covers the four main language skills - reading,

writing, listening and speaking, using material from real life

situations. If you can deal with everyday written and spoken

communications (e.g. read simple textbooks and articles, write

simple personal letters, understand simple directions), then this

is the exam for you.

Course Introduction

On the Pre First for Schools course we aim to provide a very

strong foundation for students to build on as they prepare for

the next year’s First for Schools examination. The language

introduced and practiced in these lessons will be useful to

students in their schoolwork and also when they talk to friends

and teachers in English.

In addition, the First for Schools which most students will gain

later in their study is recognized all over the world as an

indication of competence with the English language. Students

will follow the course book as well as engaging in other

activities related to chapter topics to further improve their

level of spoken and written English.

Course Introduction

We welcome you to the challenge of the Cambridge First for

Schools course. Doing well in this examination at the end of

the course not only leads to a very useful certificate of your

English language level, but indicates preparedness for IGCSE

courses in Year 11. First for Schools is an intermediate level

Cambridge ESOL exam, at level B2 of the Council of Europe’s

Common European Framework of Reference for Languages.

It is generally thought that Harrow Beijing Year 9 students

should be ready to embark on an First for Schools course. Pass

C at First for Schools is roughly equivalent to Pass A or B at

IGCSE ESL. Pass C IGCSE is equivalent to Pre First for Schools

Level. Passing First for Schools is equivalent to IELTS 5.5-6.5,

which is a very important step towards achieving IELTS 7 or

7.5 in the future.

This course not only aims to prepare students for the FCE

examination but also to further improve their level of English.
