ABOUT TARA

The founding vision of the Tara Centre, opened in Omagh Town in 1996, was inspired by a holistic

philosophy which cherishes a sense of the sacred in all aspects of life and seeks to build a society

where diversity can be experienced as enrichment and pain can be engaged with as the raw

material of deep personal transformation.

More than all else, at the Tara Centre there is a deep and genuine commitment to supporting, in an

appropriate manner, those who come through its doors to grow in an awareness of their personal,

intrinsic worth as human beings and encouraging them to live their lives from this solid base.

Throughout the past 23 years, practical expression has been given to the aspirations of the Vision

Statement by developing and delivering a wide range of healing and life-enhancing initiatives such

as those identified in this brochure, all of which are experienced in the caring environment of a

healing community and a warm welcoming building where the entire ethos breathes respect.

Testimonials abound to the fact that at the Tara Centre, people often find a new direction for their

lives. They come in touch with deep inner resources, and are reminded that there are others who

share their values about life and its meaning, thus finding inspiration in a communal quest.

“… in the service of healing, peace and holistic well-being.”

A Message from the Co-Founders

Dear Friends of Tara,

It’s Brochure time again as the Resurrection energies of Easter, proclaiming the perennial

message of the indestructible nature of life, light up the horizon of our lives proclaiming hope,

even in the darkest of times.

As if to amplify that hope-filled message, nature itself bursts into life on all sides at this time

of year - the lengthened, and still lengthening of days, the tsunami of Nature’s myriad of

shapes, forms, colours, sounds and textures which assault the senses wherever we go - and,

if we are sufficiently attuned, awakens the very soul within us to a sense of wonder and awe

at the magnificence of it all.

Nature would appear to be “on a mission” to jolt us into an awareness of that abundance of

energy which underpins the whole fabric of life – that One Life in which we all share at Source.

The Tara Vision Statement has, in its own way, the very same goal. Let us encourage you to

read it reflectively once more and let it speak to your heart, on the next page.

It is our fervent hope that you will continue to experience Tara as “a Sanctuary for all” and

avail of one or more of the initiatives on offer here “in the service of peace, healing and

holistic well-being.”

We trust you will find the support you seek when you cross the threshold at Tara to

strengthen you on your journey towards experiencing ever greater personal inner freedom,

fuelled by an increased awareness of your very own, ever-present connection with the

Source of all energy, all healing, all wholeness and a peace-filled, joyful sense of that truly

unique splendour and beauty that defines you in your essence.

Once we know Tara is playing its part in promoting that enhancement of the quality of life in

the community, as Co-Founders, we know our labours and the labours of the whole “Team

Tara” are not in vain. And we do know that is happening, day and daily. Because you tell us

so in your own words….

Thank you most sincerely.

From the Desk of the CEO

Greetings,

What a great start to the year and we’ve had a very busy Spring Term here.

It’s good to connect with you coming up to Easter time and just ahead of the new Summer 2019

programme. This is a short term because of the two Bank Holiday weekends, two Tara events and a

weekend where Mary Gormley has booked the Great Hall at Tara for a Midsummer Angel Workshop

with Chrissy Astell, tickets are available for this 1st June event from Nature Trail, in Omagh.

In the hurly burly of all that is happening around us in the world, what better way is there to focus on

the present moment and consider what we do here at Tara and how it can be of real interest and benefit

to you, mindful of the opportunities available for personal enrichment. Also, notice our ‘look ahead’ to

the rest of the year with our advance notices of events, for Autumn/Winter 2019 and beyond to Spring

2020. We are confident there will be something happening here at Tara to suit you and we are well

prepared for the richness of Autumn.

Tara has been nominated as a beneficiary to the funds raised through the Darkness Into Light (DIL) Walk,

organised by Brian McCarron, Dromore. The Walk takes place from Dromore on May 11th starting at

4.15am. You can register to take part by visiting the Darkness Into Light website

www.darknessintolight.ie. We are delighted and most grateful to be associated with Pieta House, who

do such great work in the area of suicide and self-harm.

Many of you will already know that part of Tara’s services on a holistic basis, has always been and will

continue to be suicide related, both in prevention and in support for those bereaved in this way.

And finally, we end with an image (on the back page) of the black hole, previously unseen by anyone, a

mind blowing symbol of what making connections can allow us to see, an homage, of course, to Einstein.

My best regards to you all, wishing you a peaceful Easter break.

2. SEMINARS AND WORKSHOPS

“ALL ILLNESS BEGINS IN THE GUT”

THE CONNECTION BETWEEN LIFESTYLE, HEALTH & WELL-BEING Dr Aileen O’Kane, MD

Dr Aileen O’Kane practised conventional medicine from the early 70s to mid-90s. Through a personal illness in the early 90s she became very aware of the body/spirit/mind connection and subsequently studied many aspects of holistic health. For the last 15 years she has been practising Holistic Medicine – Ayurveda, Craniosacral Therapy and Emotional Freedom Technique.

Chronic Inflammatory Illnesses like diabetes, arthritis, asthma, rheumatoid arthritis, etc. are rampant in our society. Could all of these be linked to what is going on in our ‘gut’? The answer is yes and in this seminar we will look at:

inflammation, chronic inflammation, immunity and autoimmunity;

the bacteria in our gut (our microbiome);

factors that disturb the balance of these bacteria;

the scandal of the many myths about nutrition;

how leaky gut plays its part in inflammation;

the gut/brain connection and changes each of us can make in our diet and life styles to prevent or reverse inflammation.

4. ADVANCED NOTICE OF SEMINARS AND WORKSHOPS FOR AUTUMN / WINTER 2019 & SPRING 2020

THE GREEN PLATFORM – SIMPLY LIFE CHANGING Declan Coyle Declan Coyle returns once more to the Centre by popular demand to present his inspirational “The Green Platform” workshop, now acclaimed worldwide. For those of you who will be attending for the first time, “The Green Platform” is a practical, user-friendly system developed to help you identify and implement more positive choices in your personal, working, sporting and home life. Over the course of the two days, you will learn how to apply Declan’s life-transforming techniques to understand how the mind works, inspiring you to make the best positive choices to create and reach your goals.

THE ENNEAGRAM - A POWERFUL GATEWAY TO SELF - AWARENESS AND UNDERSTANDING OTHERS. Declan Coyle

The Enneagram (from the Greek words ennéa, meaning "nine" and grámma, meaning something "written" or "drawn"), is a powerful overview of nine distinct personality types, each with its own strengths, challenges, motivations and positive paths for growth.

Understanding not only what you and others do, but why you do it, greatly enhances your acceptance and appreciation of yourself and of others. It also provides direction for continued growth and development as well as how to get past ‘stuck’ places in your life.

The Enneagram is also useful as a guide to understanding how other people see the world

differently. The Enneagram has become particularly popular within the self-help and personal

growth movements, but other professions use it as well, including therapists, teachers,

psychologists, managers, and business people.

AN INTRODUCTION TO AYURVEDA IN TWO PARTS Dr Aileen O’Kane, MD Ayurveda is the ancient system of healing which originated in India more than 5,000 years ago. Thousands of years before modern medicine provided scientific evidence for the mind-body connection, the sages of India developed Ayurveda, which continues to be one of the world’s most sophisticated and powerful mind-body health systems. More than a mere system of treating illness, Ayurveda is a science of life (Ayur, meaning ‘life’, and Veda meaning ‘science or knowledge’). Ayurveda offers a body of wisdom designed to help people stay vibrant and healthy, whilst realizing their full human potential.

TRANSFORMING STRESS AND ANXIETY INTO VITALITY

AN EXPERIENTIAL WORKSHOP ON TECHNIQUES FOR HEALING THROUGH THE USE OF THE BODY’S ENERGY/BIO-ENERGY Michael O’Doherty Michael O’Doherty is a pioneer in the field of healthcare with over 26 years’ experience in

guiding many, many people back to health. He believes the time has come for change and

family healthcare needs to become the central focus.

Testimony to the effectiveness of Michael’s energy work is provided by ‘Lord of the Dance’

celebrity Michael Flatley, among others, who credits Michael O’ Doherty with his return to

the world stage with greater vigour than ever at a time when his spectacular career seemed

to have come to an abrupt end.

At this two-day training programme, you will be given a basic understanding of tried and

tested Bio-Energy techniques and an opportunity to learn these skills to help you and your

family cope with stress and difficulties in life. Practice of the techniques will take place in pairs

to facilitate experiential learning.

A BIO-ENERGY HEALING CLINIC Michael O’Doherty

The Tara Centre is now an established base in Northern Ireland for Michael O’Doherty and his

one to one Bio-Energy Healing Treatment Clinic. This is a privately run Clinic which is managed

by Michael and his own team. Michael will be here during the Autumn / Winter programme.

Dates to be confirmed.

UNDERSTANDING GRIEF – LOSS & RECOVERY Fr. Jim Cogley

Fr. Jim Cogley is a psychotherapist and woodturner with nearly thirty years’ experience. His

particular interest is that of healing, both personal and ancestral. As an artist with wood,

he presents the age old truths in the form of symbols.

Regarded as an inspirational speaker he is constantly in demand for seminars, retreats and

conferences. He is the author of several books and inspriational cards in the Wood You

Believe series including: The Unfolding Self, The Ancestral Self, The Twinless Self and The

Spiritual Self. He has just published The Grieving Self, Vol-8, an outstanding contribution to

our understanding of grief recovery. (It will be available at the seminar).

TWIN LOSS CPD TRAINING EVENT FOR COUNSELLORS & PSYCHOTHERAPISTS Fr. Jim Cogley The Tara Centre is at the forefront of continuing professional development for Counsellors/Psychotherapists. This Autumn, we are pleased to be able to be offering this opportunity for specialist training to experienced Counsellors / Psychotherapists on Loss, with particular reference to the subject of twin loss. Be among a group of qualified Counsellors / Psychotherapists to experience this unique training delivered by Jim Cogley, Psychotherapist and Author with nearly 30 years’ experience. For many people this has implications that are enormous and far-reaching. It is a medical fact that more than one in eight people began their journey into life not on their own. They had a womb twin or were part of a multiple pregnancy. It is a medical fact that for every set of twins born, at least one in five were triplets. There is ever increasing evidence that the memory of this early loss can be carried through life as a form of psychological trauma that has previously been unrecognized and usually misdiagnosed.

EMOTIONAL FREEDOM TECHNIQUE (EFT) AN EMPOWERING TOOL FOR EMOTIONAL FREEDOM

Bridin McKenna Emotional Freedom Techniques, or EFT (often known as Tapping or EFT Tapping), is based on the underlying principle that with all emotional and physical problems there is a disruption in the body’s energy system.

EFT is a profoundly simple technique which involves tapping on certain energy points on the face and upper body while tuning into a specific problem – whether that be a traumatic event, a phobia, physical or emotional pain.

This physical pressure on the energy points, while identifying the problem, works to clear the energy disruption from the body.

PATHWAYS FROM A TROUBLED PAST: Dr Éamon Phoenix Dr. Éamon Phoenix returns to Tara to continue the Wednesday evening series of interactive series of 5 seminars on the historical context in which we live our lives on this part of the island of Ireland. The aim of the workshops is to promote a reconciled society through an informed understanding of our shared history.

A transformational journey from a troubled past to a stable, civil society.

A warm Tara Centre welcome is extended to people of all traditions, (and/or no tradition at all), who wish to explore this vital background to modern Ireland. No previous knowledge of Irish history is assumed or required, nor is attendance at any previous events.

ANGER MANAGEMENT Bernard Henry

Not knowing how to manage our anger causes it to grow, intensify and spread to anyone or anything that gets in the way. Often it harms the ones we love – wife, husband, partner, children, friends or even people we work with, both colleagues and customers. We react before we stop and think, then find ourselves having to deal with the consequences, which can be painful. It is important that we learn what triggers our anger in the first place.

This workshop is open to all adults who wish to explore, understand and identify the roots of their anger. They will learn how to express it safely through the use of appropriate tools designated to manage and transform it in to a positive energy in their lives.

Bernard Henry is an accredited Psychotherapist and qualified Anger Management Educator and Group Facilitator. He is also the founder of the Irish Association of Anger Management.

The maximum number of participants accepted for this workshop is 12.

Emergency/Crisis Situations In Emergency/Crisis situations every effort will be made that applicants in these circumstances will be contacted by the Co-Ordinator of Therapeutic Services within 24 hours and appropriate support provided in accordance with the Centre’s resources.

Cost: A sliding scale is in operation for payment for counselling/psychotherapy and art therapy. Fully funded places or places at a reduced cost are offered to persons who qualify under the conditions of relevant available grants. Each case is dealt with individually through a process of consultation between the client and the assigned counsellor/psychotherapist or art therapist. Note: A certain number of counselling/psychotherapy sessions are currently funded by VSS grant for persons who qualify. For further details, contact the Co-ordinator of Therapeutic Services for details on 028 8225 0024.

APPLICATION PROCEDURE (continued.) COMPLEMENTARY THERAPIES A special booklet on Complementary Therapies is available on request from Reception. Grant Aided Appointments The Tara Centre is grateful to the Victims & Survivors Service, (Victims and Survivors Programme, VSS), for grant aid that enables us to deliver fully funded Complementary Therapies to those who meet the relevant criteria. Contact the Receptionist who will assist you in making an application. The completed form will be passed onto the Co-Ordinator of Therapeutic Services whose responsibility it is to approve the application. The Co-Ordinator will assign a relevant available therapist to persons whose application has been approved. The assigned therapist will make direct contact with the applicant and arrangements will be made for her/him to receive the agreed therapy as soon as a place becomes available. Appointments on a Fee-Paying Basis Where a grant is not available, or in the case of persons who do not meet the grant aid criteria, appointments can be arranged on a fee paying basis. In the event of the price as advertised being prohibitive in individual cases, a reduced fee will be considered by the Co-Ordinator of Therapeutic Services on request. Cancellation Policy A minimum of 48 hours’ notice is required for cancellation of an appointment. Failure to comply with this requirement will involve a cancellation fee of £15 for fee paying clients. Grant aided clients will forfeit one allocated treatment for failure to give adequate notice of cancellation. A “No-Show” practice on the part of the client will require a return to the waiting list for further appointments. The Centre’s cancellation policy will be communicated to each client by their assigned therapist.

Special Rates of Payment At Tara we have a strong principled commitment to making the Centre’s services available to

anyone who can benefit from them, irrespective of a person’s ability to pay.

All costs, as published, are pitched at a minimum rate relative to the quality of service on offer.

Payment by instalments is facilitated at Reception, on request, to ensure no one is excluded on grounds of cost.

A personally affordable price can be directly worked out on a one-to-one basis, on request, through consultation with the CEO.

“The important thing is not to stop questioning.

Curiosity has its own reason for existence.

One cannot help but be in awe when he contemplates

the mysteries of eternity, of life,

of the marvellous structure of reality.

It is enough if one tries merely to comprehend

a little of this mystery each day.”
