November 2016: 69 students November 2017: 130 students November 2018: 204 students A total of 233 children and adults took part in Headwaters Music Program the first 10 months of 2018, compared to 188 during this period in 2017. Invested in two used pianos through Schmitt music, bringing us to eight music studios with pianos. Our tax credit loan program provided no-interest loans to 11 children, eliminating the barrier of monthly out-of-pocket expenses for music lessons. An additional 15 children received financial assistance for art or music programming. 25 students received a sibling discount As an affiliate for Schmitt Music Company, we serve as a community resource for instrument purchase plans along with books, accessories, and special orders. 2018 Year in Review Headwaters music program continues to grow!

November 2016: 69 students November 2017: 130 students November 2018: 204 students

A total of 233 children and adults took part in Headwaters Music Program the first 10 months of 2018, compared to 188 during this period in 2017.

Invested in two used pianos through Schmitt music, bringing us to eight music studios with pianos.

Headwaters employs 19 part time music instructors teaching piano, violin, viola, cello, guitar, ukulele, banjo, flute, sax, percussion, clarinet, brass, and vocals.

132 attended a total of eight Headwaters summer camps, a 74% increase over last year’s 76 participants. New this summer was Suzuki Camp and Piano Camp, developed and led by Headwaters instructors. Drumset Camp directed by Eric Sundeen is also held at Headwaters.

Monthly art exhibits our recital hall included a group exhibit in March celebrating women, a fall show by Studio 10, youth art exhibits, and shows by Katie Dixon, Paula Swenson, Sarah Peterson, Kathy Jones, Kristen Anderson, Terry Honstead, and Tom Daly.

Open Chess takes place on Sunday afternoons averaging 6-8 players each week.

Supple Studios’ Troy Foss and contributing regional musicians produced Northwoods Winter: Christmas in Bemidji Vol. III with the goal to raise funds for our music scholarship programs.

Established Art Parties as a high quality and fun birthday or group experience for children as well as adults.

15 children and 19 adults attended weekly pottery sessions led by Tom Daly in October through July.

Led by dedicated community volunteers, Headwaters Open-Mic CoffeeHouse draws an average of 50 adults, teens and children to this “First Friday” event.

Held 10 visual art, written word or music workshops for community adults.

Looking Ahead to 2019 Install doors and soundproofing in all music studios. Create a music and creative writing resource library. Secure funding to renovate the art studio to create a bright,

comfortable art and pottery studio. Develop a volunteer cultivation, training, support, and

recognition process.
