Student for a Semester

STUDENT FOR A SEMESTER SUPPORTStudying at university as a high school student can be challenging. You’ll need to make time to attend your Bond University classes, prepare for tutorials and complete the assessments, all on top of your school work, but if your parents and school agree you’re capable, we recommend you apply.

We’ll guide you through your Bond journey by offering plenty of assistance, including full access to our Faculty Service Staff. As a Student for a Semester participant, you will also have your very own Bond Student Mentor to guide you through every step of the process; an experienced student who you can call upon any time during the semester to point you in the right direction, or meet you on campus for a chat.

“Having participated in the Student for a Semester Program in Year 12, and now as a Student for a Semester Mentor, it has allowed me to see the benefits of the program from two perspectives. Attending lectures and tutorials, and having the guidance of a one-on-one mentor gave me a practical insight into life at university whilst still a high school student.

Being a mentor has allowed me to give back to students that same invaluable experience I received - whether that be through study techniques or simply helping them to settle in by creating long lasting friendships and connections.”

“As a Year 11 student I completed the Bond University Student for a Semester Program. I found the experience invaluable. It provided me with an appreciation of university life, the opportunity to study programs that interested me, strengthen my career choices and was an opportunity to build confidence in my ability to transition to tertiary studies. The lecturers, tutors and mentors were supportive and I am grateful for the exposure.”

“Our students undertake the Bond University Student for a Semester Program for a number of reasons — to better understand courses they are considering when they leave school, to enhance their knowledge around subjects they are already studying as part of their school curriculum, and importantly as a way to challenge and enhance their learning and to discover what it is like to be a university student.

Students who complete the Bond University Student for a Semester Program often find their goals when they leave school become more tangible and more of a reality. The students have an increased level of confidence in their abilities and the motivation and hunger to strive to achieve their goals both while at school and beyond.”

Alison Weeks, Director of Careers and VET (Years 10 - 12)All Saints Anglican School

“Lindisfarne Anglican Grammar School actively supports and encourages students to participate in the Student for a Semester program.

The students that complete the program gain confidence, acquire new skills and develop a greater understanding of university life. It helps students to cultivate and improve their time management skills, which they will need for school and university. The skills developed also flow back in to the classroom, as many of the skills gained are transferable and highly valuable for many subjects. I would highly recommend high achieving students to be involved in this program.”

“At 16, with a backpack full of books and a stomach full of butterflies I entered my first lecture at Bond and hoped for the best. In no time at all, I was making friends from all over the world, organising meetings with lecturers and learning about the profession I’d be contemplating for years.”
