The Missouri Hospital Association (MHA) recently recognized Missouri Delta Medical Center with the

“Most ZERO HARM Measures Award” and announced they are in the top 10% of the Hospital Improvement

Innovation Network (HIIN) medical centers. This award specifies that Missouri Delta Medical Center has either

achieved and/or sustained a zero rate of harmed patients.

The Hospital Improvement Innovation Network (HIIN) is a partnership with the Missouri Hospital Association to drive quality improvement and increase patient safety

throughout the state of Missouri.

Missouri Delta is proud to provide the safest and highest quality medical experience possible for our

patients and families.

A hospitals’ value to the communities they serve is much broader than the delivery of health care services. Their total community benefit includes charity care, absorbing bad debt and the unpaid costs of treating their patients.

As a nonprofit, community healthcare organization, we accept the obligation to serve all those in need. The charity care and financial assistance provided to patients every year underscores the importance of our Foundation and the critical role this organization plays for the communities we serve. As a safety net for healthcare, Missouri Delta Medical Center provided nearly $2.75 million in charity and unreimbursed care in 2017. In addition, Missouri Delta is providing our communities with various services and programs outside the hospital that support healthier communities and improve individual health.

Our focus on health improvement and high-quality care, is helping reduce the cost of chronic often preventable conditions, which provides value to our patients and business partners.

A hospital our size not only provides high-quality care, but is an economic engine for the communities we serve and an anchor for business development and expansion. Missouri Delta Medical Center provides a strong economic foundation through investments in employees, equipment, technology and building expanison. Missouri Delta has a workforce of over 730 full time employees and a payroll exceeding $50 million. Every hospital job creates 2

additional jobs in our community. With the help of the Foundation, the hospital is investing in over $4.5 million in major projects that will create new service lines, expand jobs and improve access to needed health care services to our region. Additionally, the hospital is investing over $1 million in clinical and $1 million in non-clinical capital improvements in 2018.Lastly, hospitals are the center of most communities’ emergency medical care systems. Hospitals invest millions in preparing for all types of natural and man-made emergencies to serve their communities in times of need. These activities promote community resiliency. Missouri Delta works with community partners to prepare for events that could impact the critical infrastructures during a crisis. The hospital meets quarterly with local, regional and state emergency responders and managers to assess our preparedness and perform drills for the various threats to our communities

Since 1991, the Foundation’s partnership has provided resources to help us update technology, expand and modernize our infrastructure and add new services. The support from our donors and friends is vital to maintaining a top performing healthcare organization. Please know that your generosity and ongoing support is an investment in the future of our community’s health and prosperity.

I am very grateful to be a part of Missouri Delta Medical Center Foundation, I have to say I absolutely love it here!! As a community member, I didn’t realize how much the Foundation gives back to the hospital and in return the community. In 2017 the Foundation purchased c-arm chairs, wheel chairs, mammograms to patients and robes

for the Mammography Department just to name a few. These items provide our patients more comfortable, experience. I am honored to be a part of such a dynamic organization, I am very thankful for the opportunity.

2017 was a successful year for the Breast Cancer Luncheon and the Hospital Ball and we couldn’t have done it

without our gracious donors and the amazing employees of MDMC. Our community should be very proud of the support they give back to their hospital.

I want to personally thank each community donor, each employee, each volunteer and my family for the

overwhelming support! Looking forward to what we can achieve this year.

Sincerely,

Amy Alcorn,Executive Director

Missouri Delta Foundation

In 2014, Jane C. Stacy came to the Missouri Delta Medical Center Foundation with an idea after overhearing a child ask a nurse for another piece of paper on which to draw. Stacy thought to herself, “wouldn’t it be wonderful if children had more than just a piece of paper to express their artistic abilities while receiving care.” Combining that thought with the memory of her mother, who herself was an artist and a mother of 8 children, Ms. Stacy made an earmarked donation to the Foundation for art supplies for children and thus, Mama Cooper’s Closet was born.

Feeling inspired after watching a video of a girl making a difference in her community, Carley King (6), set out with the same goal in mind. With help from her mom, she began taking orders for bracelets she made herself in an exchange for a donation to Missouri Delta Medical Center Foundation. Her busy hands worked tirelessly making the bracelets, which raised

$700, earmarked to help fund the new Adolescent Behavioral Health Unit.Construction for the Adolescent Behavioral Health unit is set to start in late Fall. Pictured left to right Amy Alcorn with the Foundation, Carley and Carley’s mom Brooke King.

Congratulations to Macy Shively from Benton, MO for receiving The Cooper Scholarship! This scholarship is awarded to a student currently enrolled in medical school. Funded by Jane Cooper Stacy in memory of her brother Dr. James F. Cooper from Charleston, MO. Macy is a Freshman at Kirksville College of Osteopathic Medicine and graduated from Notre Dame Regional High School in 2013. Stay tuned to the Missouri Delta Foundation Facebook page for Scholarship information!

Missouri Delta Foundation Benefit Ball

Halloween HauntAs chair persons of the 2017 Benefit Ball, Heather and I would like to thank Sponsors, Patrons, and Committee Members from the bottoms of our hearts for your generous donations, time, and talents. They were all critical to our success and helped raise over $86,000. The monies received this year will be used to purchase Ventilators and BiPap machines for the Respiratory Department. As conditions like asthma, sleep apnea, heart failure, chronic obstructive pulmonary diseases, and diabetic ketoacidosis are prevalent in our area, these machines will greatly benefit our community. As a donor to our organization, you’re a part of something really special—you’re a part of our community. And you make everything we do possible. We were honored to be a part of helping bring awareness services that maintain and improve quality patient care at Missouri Delta and look forward to the hospitals continued success.

At the 2017 Breast Cancer Awareness Luncheon we served over 400 lunches and raised

approximately $12,500. The money raised helps those that are uninsured or under-insured with

the cost of their annual mammograms. With the money from the Luncheon the Foundation was also able to purchase spa-like robes for patient

comfort during their exams. The pictures displayed at the Luncheon were

taken by Kiley Adams, owner of Barn Doors and Shutters in Sikeston; emphasizing how Breast

Cancer has touched so many lives right here in our area. Hanging the survivor’s photographs at the

luncheon drew many guests to the podium to take a closer look. Our hope was to encourage women

to schedule their annual mammogram. We hope to see you all at this years luncheon on

October 9th at the First Baptist Church.

A memorial donation is a touching way to show your friend or family member that you are thinking of them in their time of loss. Not only are you honoring a life, but you are also helping the Missouri Delta Foundation in its mission. A good benchmark when deciding

how much to give is what you would give at a wedding for this person’s family. When making a memorial donation, the family is immediately notified of your thoughtfulness and your contribution will help better the lives of those at Missouri Delta.

·Over a 4 year period, 500 adolescents in Southeast Missourineeded treatment from our Juvenile Offices alone.

·Between July 2017 and March 2018 over 60 adolescent patientsfrom Bootheel Counseling Services in Sikeston, needed inpatient behavioral health services.

Need Analysis

Due to the lack of adolescent behavioral health treatment options within a 60 mile radius of Sikeston; Missouri Delta is launching an effort to fulfill the community’s need by planning to open a 15 bed inpatient adolescent behavioral health unit.

Plan of Action·Missouri Delta Adolescent Behavioral Health Unit will provideintensive treatment for patients ages 11-18.

·Conditions treated include: anxiety, mood disorders andsuicidal ideations.

·Adolescents admitted to this program are usually experiencing acrisis or have become overwhelmed with personal orfamily problems ·Individuals admitted to this program receive psychological, behavioral and/or pharmacological, interventions that requires asafe environment, a structured and supportive social atmosphere, and intensive therapeutic intervention.

·Treatment staff is multidisciplinary and includes nurses, social workers, mental health technicians, activity therapists andcertified teachers working as a team under the direction of aPsychiatrist. ·Every aspect of this program is intended to assist patients inmaking a rapid and complete recovery

·Aside from fulfilling a need for our youth in the community, this new unit will create 20-25 new jobs in Sikeston.

Dear Friends,

We are in the first phase of building a new 15 bed Adolescent Psych Unit on the 2E wing of the hospital. A bed analysis was performed that showed the need for up to 27 beds in our region. The only facility within a 60 mile

radius that caters to this population is Twin Rivers in Kennett. The Adolescent Psychiatric program provides intensive treatment for patient’s ages 11-17 suffering from anxiety, mood disorder and suicidal ideations.

Adolescents admitted to this program are usually experiencing a crisis or have become overwhelmed with

personal or family problems, which leads to feelings of anxiety, anger, sadness or suicidal thoughts. Individuals admitted to this program require psychological, behavioral and/or pharmacological interventions that requires a safe environment, a structured and supportive social atmosphere, and intensive therapeutic intervention. Every

aspect of these programs are intended to assist patients in making a rapid and complete recovery.

The physical design of the unit provides a safe environment for all patients and space for therapeutic and recreational activities. Units will be furnished to provide a comfortable atmosphere and to encourage interaction

among patients and staff.

The treatment staff is multidisciplinary and includes Nurses, Social Workers, Mental Health Technicians, Activity Therapists and certified teachers working as a team under the direction of a Psychiatrist. The treatment

team provides each patient entering the programs with a comprehensive multidisciplinary assessment and an individualized plan for treatment. As clinically indicated, this treatment plan may include intensive individual

therapy, group therapy, family therapy, appropriate medication and age appropriate educational and skill building activities.

All of these elements of care are provided by highly

qualified personnel working within a program structure that emphasizes patient, family or legal guardian participation

in the treatment process. The treatment programs encourage patient involvement and responsibility through participation in an ongoing therapeutic community. Daily

involvement in the therapy groups and community meeting develops a sense of mutual support that is important in the

treatment of all patients on the Unit.

Sincerely,

Jason SchrumpfPresident and CEO

As the new Foundation President I would like to begin with a big “THANK YOU” to our donors and volunteers who helped make 2017 a great year for Missouri Delta. I would also like to take this opportunity to welcome our new Foundation Director, Amy Alcorn. Amy has deep roots in the community and will continue to grow and promote the foundation. 2017 proved to be an active year for the foundation with the completion of the emergency department and the continued progress of the gero-psych expansion. We had a great success with the Halloween Haunt Hospital Ball and Breast Cancer luncheon raising over one hundred thousand dollars. These event couldn’t be possible without our volunteers and donors, so THANK YOU very much!

In Sincere Appreciation,

Jared StratonMissouri Delta Foundation President
