Always have a professional cleaning prior to any type of whitening
the Bright stuffHow to add extra sparkle to your pearly whites. by Mary Clarke
• Professional in-office whiten-ing: Services such as Zoom! or
BriteSmile are the fastest-working
protocols. A whitening agent (usu-
ally hydrogen peroxide) is applied
to teeth, then activated by heated
light.Treatment is a single session.
• Dentist-supervised custom-fit-ted mouth trays are another pro
option. Whitening gel is applied
to teeth, and held in place by the
tray for a prescribed amount of
time. Results are the same as
in-office treatments, they just take
longer, since light is not used.
Cost of pro treatments: From
about $300 to $900.
• At-home options: Goodling’s
patients report good results with
products like Crest Whitestrips
and Rembrandt Form-Fit Whiten-
ing Strips. “It’s important to finish
the treatment cycle to get maxi-
mum results.” Cost: $16 to $50.
• Pro vs. OTC: “Results always
vary, but we generally see a
considerable difference between
OTC whitening and professional
whitening,” Dr. Goodling says.
“Results from professional whiten-
ing can be up to five shades
brighter than OTC whitening.”
• When to whiten: In-office or
at-home pro treatments should
be done two weeks before the
wedding. “It takes that amount
of time for the full effects to take
place,” Dr. Goodling says. She
suggests starting 30 days before
the wedding for OTC whiten-
ing, since the lightening agents
used in these products are not
as strong as those used under
dental supervision. “Follow the
recommendations on the pack-
age, because they all vary,” says
Dr. Goodling, “And use these right
up to the wedding.”
• Maintenance: Teeth are most
susceptible to staining in the
two weeks following treatment,
so avoid stain-makers such as
coffee, red wine, berries, tomato
sauce and balsamic vinegar.
Drinking through a straw can help
offset the effects.
• Extra help: Some people
experience a temporary increase
in sensitivity. An easy fix: “Dab
anti-sensitivity toothpaste on any
trouble spots,” Dr. Goodling says.
“You can leave it on overnight.”
• Longevity: Results should last up
to a year before new stains start
to become evident.
• To amp up results: “Dip a brush
in hydrogen peroxide, then in
baking powder, and gently brush.
This will effectively remove extrin-
sic staining from things like coffee,
and red wine very effectively. Just
be careful—do not do this for
more than a few days at a time,
and use very little pressure.”
We asked New York City orthodontist and whitening specialist Dr. Jacqueline Goodling to fill us in on the best tooth-brightening options around, from in-office procedures to at-home treatments.

Jacquie Smiles and Kellari restaurant partnered in a contest that is more than just fluff !
New York--(FASHION WIRE)—Dr. Jacquie Smiles, a leader in orthodontics and the national Invisalign spokesperson has cracked the code on teeth whitening by creating a proprietary formula that eliminates the sensitivity so many people suffer from when whitening their teeth professionally. “The two things I have heard repeatedly from patients in all the years of creating signature smiles is “whitening doesn’t work or my teeth are so sensitive that I can’t go through with it.” Two years in the making and many trips to the lab in perfecting it, Dr. Smiles White will launch 2018 with an “ALL Gain No Pain” campaign to include a VIP student program for that confident, courageous, contagious smile. More importantly, with advice on gaining the courage to do ANYTHING from nailing that interview or going up to your crush!
The Dr. Smiles membership platform includes apps, social and motivational features, advice and personalized coaching that are connected to increasing confidence and empowering young people. With a global community of engagement and support, this helps people be accountable, adhere to changes and reaching their personal goals.
