2018-19 NONVIOLENT CRISIS INTERVENTION TRAINING Great Prairie Area Education Agency works as an educational partner with public and accredited, nonpublic schools to help students, school staff, parents and communities. Great Prairie AEA provides professional development and leadership to promote school improvement, a variety of instructional services, special education support services, and technology and media services. GPAEA.ORG Great Prairie AEA will be offering two different options for building teams interested in completing the Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Training. It is recommended that school districts consider training teams of 3-5 people per building. Great Prairie AEA continues to certify participants for one year. Please contact Julie Thomas, lead trainer for Nonviolent Crisis Intervention Training, with any questions at 641-682-8591 x 5307 or [email protected]. Option #1: Participants can attend a two-day training at one of three locations. A workbook is provided, and participants are encouraged to dress comfortably. Please register through the PD Course Catalog. Limit 40 people. $17 per person. (More training dates may be scheduled as the year progresses.) Option #2: Participants can complete a flex training, which includes approximately 2 hours of online content (self-paced) and 4 hours of follow-up on your district site for physical techniques. This training option is scheduled at the mutual convenience of the district and the trainers. The onsite follow-up can be scheduled in one four-hour block or two two-hour blocks of time. The cost is $32 per person. There is a minimum of 10 participants. Contact Julie Thomas for registration and scheduling. (This training is available throughout the year.) Additional Information: In addition to the two training delivery options listed above, there is a 1.5-2 hour on-site training called ?Strategies for De-Escalation? that shares portions of the Nonviolent Crisis Intervention content specific to utilizing strategies to help de-escalate escalating behaviors. It is intended for all staff and will not certify them in the training. Please contact your Regional Director if interested in learning more about this option.
