Free - Gardening Workshops Gardens at Lake Merri, 666 Bellevue Avenue, Oakland 4th Saturdays, 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm Join the Master Gardeners for this year’s workshops focused on various aspects of food and habitat gardening. There will be me for solving your vegetable and ornamental problems. Bring samples from your garden andquesons for our team’s assistance. There will be a 30-45 minute talk followed by a problem-solving sessionof 15+ minutes. A team of Master Gardeners will be on hand to help address your quesons. April 28: All About Tomatoes & More Tomatoes are the favorite summer vegetable grown by most home gardeners, and today’s talk will focus on growing the best tomatoes possible in our climate. Our speaker will also provide ps for success with other common summer vegetables. Tomato seedlings, plus other veggie seedlings, will be available for a donaon. May 26: Vercal & Container Gardening Whether planng for aesthecs or food, there are many possibilies for growing veggies, flowers and herbs vercally to conserve space. Learn about vercal trellising, which can be done in the ground and in containers. In addion, this presentaon will provide ps for successful container gardening, including container size, soil, light condions and watering. June 23: Nave Bee Pollinator Gardening Good pollinaon is crical for a healthy garden. Learn what you can do to aract nave bees to your garden and neighborhood by planng plants that will aract them, many of which are naves, and by using other bee-friendly techniques. Our speakers will lead a guided tour of our nave bee garden to inspire you to try it at home. You’ll be surprised that once the bees begin to visit, so will the buerflies and hummingbirds. July: We are busy in the garden. No workshop this month August 25: Best Citrus in our Area If you want quality citrus fruit, it works best to choose variees suitable to our climate. Our speaker will provide informaon on good variees of lemons, limes, Mandarin oranges, etc. and on good growing pracces to increase success. You also will learn about the Asian citrus psyllid, an insect that is spreading a serious citrus disease that is just gaining a foothold in California. Learn how to idenfy it and what to do about it. September 22: Cool Seasoning Gardening Gardening isn’t just for the spring and summer months. Come learn about the fall and winter vegetable garden opons.
