2018 CONTESTANTS,

Enclosed you should find the information you need to compete at the Little Miss Kentucky pageant. Royal Arts is proud to carry on this tradition to allow young girls the opportunity to gain experience on stage and develop their talents. While this pageant is not directly affiliated with Miss Kentucky, it is a fundraiser for the Miss Kentucky Scholarship Organization and win-ners will be given opportunities to make appearances at Miss Kentucky functions. Last year, the Little Miss Kentucky pageant was able to raise $3000 in scholarship money, which helps put hardworking young women through college!

Registration and payments are due by May 20th. Please read the informa-tion carefully and pay attention to paperwork required for submission! All materials will be used as submitted so check for typos and proper format-ting. As always, if you find you still have questions don’t hesitate to contact us via email or phone. We will have a Facebook group dedicated to contes-tants for general announcements also. If we do not add you to the group when you register, please contact us. All questions, comments, and con-cerns should be directly addressed to me, Victoria, the director or your lo-cal director. All opinions, information, and materials expressed here and at the pageant are those directly from Royal Arts.

We look forward to seeing familiar faces and meeting new ones this June!

Sincerely, Victoria Giroux, Director 859-321-8857 [email protected]

Age and Division Guidelines

There will be four age divisions as follows. Each contestant will be placed in the appro-priate division based on her age as of June 1, 2018. (Only exception are for those who

turn 13 before this date but are ineligible to compete for Miss Kentucky’s Outstanding Teen. They are still eligible for the PreTeen division.)

Tiny Miss: 3-5 years Little Miss: 6-8 years Junior Miss: 9-10 years PreTeen Miss: 11-12 years

There will be four crowned titles given and no overall titles.

Competition

Tiny Miss and Little Miss will compete in the following areas of competition:

Interview (30%) Casual Wear Modeling (30%) Evening Gown (30%) On Stage Question (10%)

Junior Miss and PreTeen Miss will compete in the following areas of competition:

Private Interview (20%) Casual Wear Modeling (20%) Talent (20%) Evening Gown (20%) On Stage Question (20%)

Competition Details

Casual Wear Modeling: Casual wear is the time for the contestant to show off their per-sonality with an outfit that reflects their style. This is not a “theme wear” competition and off the rack clothes are required. Simply put, a nice outfit hanging in your closet is appropriate. Modeling should be natural in style. A walking map is enclosed at the end of the packet.

WWW.THEROYALARTS.COM "3

Evening Gown: Stones and beading are allowed on dresses. Most pageant gowns are acceptable. We dis-courage custom glitzy cupcake dresses for Tiny Miss, but short dresses are acceptable for Tiny Miss. Long gowns are required for ages 6+. A walking map is enclosed at the end of the packet.

Private Interview: Interview will be conducted by a panel and will be approx. 3-4 mins in length. Most ques-tions will be derived from the Bio sheet you will turn in with registration. Attire should be stylish, age appropri-ate, and comfortable. Makeup is allowed for interview.

Talent: Talent is required beginning at age 9 because it is meant to help prepare girls to later compete in the Miss Kentucky’s Outstanding Teen and Miss Kentucky

pageants. No one expects a professional talent, as girls this age are just discovering what they like and learning the skills needed to perform their talents. For some, talent is their favorite part… for others it can be the source of anxiety! If your contestant has never competed in talent or feels she is still trying to work out her talent, don’t be discouraged by this portion of competition because it truly is meant to be an opportunity to “try” and more often times than not, they are right on par with the other contestant skill levels!

Time must be 90 seconds or less. No duplicate talents will be accepted per age division. If there are duplicate talents or very similar talents we will accept the one who regis-tered first. Those using the same song but different talents will be accepted. For example, “Shake It Off” with a lyri-cal dance and “Shake It Off” with a tap dance would be accepted. Two lyricals to “Shake It Off” would not be ac-cepted. Manchester Music Hall is unable to get a full sized piano onto the stage. A keyboard will be provided for piano tal-ents. If you wish to use a prop or props they need to be easily taken on and off stage. **Talent Music needs to be emailed by May 20th unless other arrangements are made. Please see note on the talent form how to label talent music.

On Stage Question: Questions will be your standard age appropriate questions. Ques-tions will not be given ahead of time. These are not meant to stump or confuse the con-

testant, simply meant for the audience to get to know her better since we do not get to sit in on private interview. This will be done in evening gown.

Makeup: Age appropriate and a natural appearance is stressed. If you choose to use makeup it needs to be light and natural looking. Of course PreTeens will have more le-niency on wearing more makeup than Tiny Miss. The judges are notified of this, howev-er, it is still up to the judges discretion to deduct points if they feel makeup is too heavy or not.

Opening Number: Opening Number is always a non-scored, simply choreographed, portion of the show. Contestants will be shown at rehearsal what they are doing. They will introduce themselves with only “Name and Local Title”. Contestants wear their ca-sual wear outfits during this.

Optional Competitions

Optional competitions are simply an extra opportunity to compete in various ways. These competitions have no effect on your main competition score and will be scored by a separate panel of judges. Some of these competitions have separate entry fees, but some are free! Please make sure to double check you include all required paperwork/materials for the areas you choose to compete in. Tiny Miss and Little Miss Talent ($25): The same rules apply as stated earlier about talent. 90 seconds max. Please submit music via email by May 20th. **1st Runner Up and Winners will perform their talents during the Sunday pageant. Costume/Theme Wear Modeling ($25): The theme for this is “School’s Out for Summer!” Contestants can represent a summer activity they love to do, a place they are going to be traveling to, or even something they wish they could do while on summer break. Let your creativity go wild! Winners are selected per age divi-sion. There will be 1 overall winner per pageant as well. **1st Runner Up and Winners will model their costumes during the Sunday pageant.

Photogenic ($10/per photo): Each contestant can en-ter unlimited photogenic entries. This is a natural pageant, and glitzy styled and overly photoshopped pho-tos usually do not fare well with judges. Winners are se-lected per age division. There will be 1 overall winner per pageant as well. (Photos are

turned in at registration.) ((Smiling photos tend to fare better than serious photos wink wink!)

Photogenic Portfolio ($25): A portfolio entry will consist of 5-7 different modeling photos of the contestant. The portfolio should be a mix of headshot and full body im-ages. Winners are selected per age division. There will be 1 overall winner per pageant as well. (Portfolios are turned in at registration.)

Junior Miss and PreTeen Miss Academic Achievement (Free): There is a form to fill out to showcase the contestants academic achievement. Supplemental documentation is allowed and encouraged. There will be 1 winner per division. (Supplemental materials will be submitted at registration.)

Outstanding Community Service Award (Free): There is a form to fill out to showcase the contestant’s outstanding commitment to community service. Using your title and crown to give back and uplift others is at the heart of pageantry and we want to recog-nize those who fulfill those duties. There will be 1 winner per division.

People’s Choice Award ($1 per vote): One girl per pageant will be crowned the peo-ple’s choice winner. This will be decided upon the voters! Each vote costs $1 and will be open for voting on June 1st until the awards ceremonies. All proceeds benefit the Miss Kentucky Scholarship Organization. Winner’s receive a crown, trophy, and flowers. Votes can be cast on PayPal by donating any amount and writing the contestant’s name in the comments section. Votes can be made in person all pageant weekend as well.

Cover Girl Model: The inside cover girl model will be awarded based on a Facebook voting system. Each contestant will have the opportunity to submit a photo and the con-testant with the most likes from May 10th-20th will win the inside cover! Info for this contest will be sent out closer to the date. Make sure you follow the Little Miss Kentucky Facebook page so you don’t miss out!

Awards

Awards are as follows but not limited to (Sponsorships of awards/gifts are often received up to the pageant time.):

2018 State Division Winners: Winners receive a crown, trophy, sash, our sponsor’s gift bags, a crown and sash carrying case, and flowers. In addition they receive 2 tickets to the 2018 Miss Kentucky pageant, and to the 2019 Miss Kentucky’s Outstanding Teen pageant, a gift certificate to Miss Priss and an official titleholder photo shoot. All Contestants: No one leaves empty handed! Everyone receives a trophy and gift bag. Everyone receives an official Little Miss Kentucky T-shirt.

Optional Contest Winners: Optional Contest winners receive a special trophy and flowers. Winners of optional talent and costume wear will get to showcase their winning routine again during Sunday’s pageant.

People’s Choice Winner: Winner receives a crown, trophy, and flowers.

Other Information

Judges: We strive for fairness and look for the highest quality of judges with experience and with no known personal connections to any particular contestants. The director has no say in the scoring and there is a separate tabulator for scoring. With this being said, all results are final unless the win-ner is unable to fulfill her duties. Please do not contact judges after the pageant. All questions should be directed to the director.

Scoresheets: We will not be returning score sheets anymore. It seems this has caused more distress than help in the past. The director will try to offer constructive feedback, if requested, in a timely manner but please don't expect immediate feedback.

Photography/Videography: There will be an official photographer and videographer on site. We will notify you of their options for purchase once they are available. Photogra-phy and Videography are allowed and we encourage you to share pictures and Facebook Live the events!

Hotel: It is strongly encouraged everyone book a room at the Hilton Downtown Lexing-ton as ALL pageant activities will be held at the hotel on Saturday, June 2nd. There is a room block being held until May 1st for $119/night. There will be a link posted on the website and on the Facebook page to direct you to the room block.

Annual Contestant Princess Party: One of the highlights of pageant weekend is the party on Saturday night which includes Miss Kentucky and other special guest appear-ances, a photo booth, food/drinks, entertainment, and goodies! This year the party will be catered by the Hilton so a mandatory $10 fee per contestant is required to help cover the costs, but guests are welcome to come also!

WWW.THEROYALARTS.COM "7

Dressing Room Info: While there are 2 green rooms at Manchester Music Hall, space will be tight. Only 1 person per child will be allowed backstage to help Tiny Miss and Little Miss contestants change. That person is not allowed on the side of the stage, they must exit and watch the pageant from the audience once the child is ready for each phase of competition. There will be NO ONE other than contestants and staff backstage for the Junior Miss and PreTeen Miss pageant. Our staff will help them zip, tuck, tie, tease, powder, etc. Your child will be well attended to. Please sit in the audience and enjoy the pageant! For everyone’s sanity, these rules will be strictly enforced!

Little Miss Kentucky Contract MAIL 1 COPY

I certify that, ____________________________, will compete with integrity and a good sportsmanlike attitude. The information provided here is all factual and her age is truth-ful. I understand that any foul behavior, speech, or actions can result in disqualification without reimbursement, this includes on the internet.

I understand this is a non-refundable competition once the deadline has passed. If for whatever reason you cannot compete, a 50% refund will be issued before the deadline of May 20th. No refunds will be issued after the deadline.

In the event my daughter wins a title she will fulfill her duties to the utmost ability in-cluding appearances, photo shoots, community service activities, and at official Miss Ken-tucky events. If for whatever reason she can not fulfill the duties (which is up to the di-rector’s discretion and unlikely), I understand the title may be given to the 1st Runner up. Foul behavior from the titleholder, parent, or people associated with the titleholder while at public appearances has a zero tolerance policy and can result in forfeiture of ti-tle.

The crown and sash are property of Royal Arts until the end of the titleholder’s reign. After that it belongs to the titleholder. If for whatever reason the contestant’s title is re-voked, the crown and sash must be returned and if unable to do so, you will be billed for the cost to replace them.

I vow to not contact judges to discuss scores and results. I understand scores and results are final unless a technical error has occurred with tabulating. I understand all ques-tions, comments, and concerns should be addressed with the Director and/or staff of the pageant.
