Whydoweexist?We exist to empower families in crisis to break the cycle of poverty.
Whodoweserve?We serve nearly 75 Dallas families in crisis each year. These families are typically classified as working poor and have children aged 18 and under 96%ofourfamiliesareheadedbysingle. mothers.
Whydowedoservethem?The working poor make up the largest segment of the poor. Yet, they are the most underserved in terms of community services. Crisis can either compel these families toward self-sufficiency or be the catalyst for their entry in a system that has historically led to generational poverty. Interfaithseekstoensurethatthepathtoself-sufficiencyremainstheoptionofchoice.
Howdowedoit?Weofferaholisticandeffectiveapproachbasedourformula:EliminateBarriers+EquipParents+EducateChildren=EmpowerWorkingFamilies. First, we provide the assistance needed to become stable by helping to EliminateBarriers, whether it is a housing or financial crisis. Next, we EquipParents by helping parents obtain higher-paying jobs via our highly effective 12-week career coaching program. We also help parents save money and reduce debt with financial coaching. Then we EducateChildren by providing free on-site childcare as well as after-school and summer programs to inspire children ages 0 to 18 to reach their potential. By providing all of these services along with transitional housing in one of our 25 fully-furnished apartments, we EmpowerWorkingFamilies to reach their goals.
Howdoweknowitworks?earnedmore savedmore 2,Last year, graduating families ($14.05/hour on average), ($ 107 on
averag ($835 on average), (93% are e),reducedmoredebt andremainedself-sufficientlongeremployed with permanent housing 12 months post-graduation) than those of any other Dallas-area transitional housing program.
Whyisthisimportanttothecommunity?If we continue to offer subsidies as the primary solution to crisis, generational poverty will increase as will the tax burden. If we offer support that leads to self-sufficiency, the middle class will grow as will the tax base and the economy. Eachyear,InterfaithsavesDallastax-payersapproximately$8millionasaresultofourfamilies'long-termself-sufficiency.94% of families remain employed after exiting our program and 100% live without the aid of rent subsidies.two years
