President’s Report TCGC MEMBERS, Just a reminder because of recent encounters. Members entering TCGC property should have a positive attitude with other members, even if they are having a talk with them about something they are doing against our rules. This goes both ways, I know when I have screwed up and am able to listen to "positive" criticism. If any member, including Board members, cannot do this then do not enter TCGC property. I have also told members to record with their phone any confrontations. When confronted, don't say anything until you start recording. When any club member has any problem, they should first consult with the Member At Large (a position on the Board to represent the concerns of all members) after which if they are not satisfied they should contact the Board.

People shouldn't have a negative attitude, which will intimidate others, this goes against our club's mission statement, and repeated offences could endanger your club membership. Have fun at the range and be a responsible adult shooter.

Thank You to all those working to improve our club!

Mark Ericksen [email protected]

Vice-President’s Report The Kimber Micro Carry is better to shoot then I expected. No problems hitting the target! Very excited to win the pistol!

This month Word of the Month can be found in the Forums! Win a Friends of NRA Cap and Plaque! First reply posted with your name and you are the winner!

Any member can advertise items for sale on the forum. After a few months or when items sell, please refresh (or remove) your ad or the webmaster will take down old listings.

Safety Corner Greetings Tri City Gun Club Members:

Muzzle Breaks: Members are reminded that just as you are responsible for where your bullet impacts, you are also responsible for the gases created by a muzzle break. If you have a rifle with a muzzle break, please keep in mind the members shooting on the tables to your left and right. Do not set up on a bench when you already have shooters on the adjacent benches. Be polite.

Burglary: The McClain County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating our burglary on July 9th, thus we continue to keep the actual details in a close hold. We are continuing to improve our security measures, however as I mentioned at the August Club Meeting these measures will be on a need to know basis. If you have information about the burglary, please give me a call. If you need specifics about our security measures you can give me a call and we can discuss your need.

Some useful facts about the TCGC Calendar. The calendar contains scheduled and recurring events only. It does not include immediate closures for

range maintenance or emergency utility work unless timely notification is given. The calendar details which ranges are closed and the time they are expected to reopen. All events are subject to cancellation due to weather or other circumstances. Cancellations are reflected if timely notification is given. Non-Members, event participants, and those without skeet/trap access (shotgun events) need to

contact event coordinators for updates on cancellations. Contact information can be found on thewebsite.

All range maintenance closures are reflected if scheduled in advance. The calendar can be viewed in grid, list, or yearly format. Some devices may not support all formats. Some events may require member login for registration.

If you would like to schedule an event, reserve the stat house or pavilion, or have questions regarding the calendar, please contact me.

TCGC CLAYBREAKERS 5-Stand Success, Rain or ShineThanks to everyone involved in helping make 5-Stand a reality at TCGC. Your hard work, dedication, and your most generous donations have brought us closer to completion. Aug 19th around 30 people showed up (in the rain) to support 5-Stand. We had 26 shooters and shot 58 rounds. We enjoyed the cool temps, awesome new target presentations, and some darn good chili dogs. When we started this in May of 2017, I never thought we would be this far in a short time. On that note, everyone keep shooting! Every target broken gets us a little closer to completing the

project. We are saving up for a couple more throwers and a 20’ conex which will also be a base for a tower thrower. How cool is that?

****Notice**** Please turn off and decock all throwers. Clean houses and dispose of all trash in blue dumpster. Member owned Skeet/Trap cards are not to be used for your guest. A spouse is a guest if they are not registered as TCGC spousal members. Guest cards are available for purchase. $100/20rds or pay $6 per round. Any person that pulls a trigger on TCGC Skeet or Trap fields must sign-in at HI2 or be on a youth group roll sheet before shooting.

For info contact Tara Nelson at 405-664-6549 or email [email protected]

ESSAY May 29, 2018 Alexis Andrews

We hear about it all too often. It almost feels as if it’s a national headline every week. Another active

shooter has wreaked havoc on a classroom full of innocent children. It’s an event that occurs without warning,

without a reason, and so far without a way to stop it. It is unacceptable, and it must be stopped. And it can be.

Everyday campuses are packed full of students eager to learn, eager to expand their knowledge, and

eager to go out a make a difference in the world. They wake up each day worried about an upcoming test or

group project – as they should be. A student should not wake up in the morning worried about whether or not

their lives or the life of the girl next to them will end in chaos as rounds of ammunition are sprayed across the

room. School and campus shootings should not even exist, nor should they be a common fear.

However, they are, but they don’t have to be. Allowing teachers and students alike to be armed on

campuses automatically creates a safer environment. When those carrying are properly trained and certified to

handle a firearm responsibly, the lives of those around them become infinitely be secure. In the event of a

shooting, the stranger next to you may become your hero by neutralizing the threat. Your life may have been in

danger, but your life isn’t over thanks to the boy who sits across from you in history class.

Innocent bystanders can become the needed heroes in a split second. For example, recently an active

shooter walked into a Louie’s restaurant and fired away at those enjoying a family meal. That shooter was

stopped before he could claim any lives by a couple of good Samaritans who were carrying a firearm and know

hot to properly handle the situation. Their bravery saved countless lives, and this can be the reality on our

campuses as well.

Allowing those whom are certified to carry a firearm to do so in a place where safety is the number one

priority, can ensure that it is always achieved. We cannot prevent every maniac from doing the unspeakable, but

we can prevent their worst from taking innocent lives. It all starts with allowing the comfort of safety to only be

an arm’s reach away. A campus should be a place of growing, learning, and thriving, and thanks to the second

amendment, it can be.
