Debra Hobbs Mason, I want to thank you, the bishop, and the cabinet for allowing me to continue to serve at St. Marks. It was another year of an exciting ministry! We offer praise and thanks to the Lord and celebrate the following: Our church leaders who are very much engaged and involved in all our programs and minis- tries. The dynamic and spirit-filled worship gatherings where we experience Gods presence and share Gods love to all people: Youth-led Worship - 4 th Sunday with upbeat and contempo- rary worship; Freestyle Worship - 5 th Sunday which allows all ages to be more creative as we worship and express our faith in God; the choir has been great in leading the worship; children serve as the acolytes; and Food, Fun and Fellowship every 2 nd Wednesday, where we invite friends; Church Dinners - Christmas, Easter and Thanksgiving. Three new members were added into our membership. Two of our members have decided to enter into the ministry. (Robyn Radde, a college student, and Charley Radde, a Senior High student) Christian education programs. We added a new Sunday School class for college-age students. As of now, we have seven Sunday School classes (5-adult, 1-youth, and 1-children). In addition, we have Bible Study every Thursday at 10:30am; Grief Recovery Group on Mondays at 1:00pm; and Youth Bible Study every month. The youth attended Summer and Winter youth camps, and Chrysalis. Some of our members are active in the Emmaus Walk. The pastoral and membership care ministry. We have a team that assists the pastor in providing care and send- ing cards to our sick/homebound members. (Don Cecil, Ila Dennis and Ann Harris) Community Outreach Programs We continue to support Mesquite Social Services, Mission East Dallas, and Sharing Life through our basket offering every Sunday. - Human Trafficking Awareness campaign (1st week of February) - Boy Scout Sunday Celebration (February 11). We have 16 cub scouts, 5 boy scout troops - Black History Sunday Celebration with our community African-American sisters and brothers - Hosted Veterans and Spouses Warrior Training for our community. Training provided by UT Dallas Center for Brain Health (March/April) - Mesquite/Sunnyvale UMC Joint Community outreach: Community Easter Egg Hunt – March 24 ; Vacation Bible School - July 31 - August 3; Community Summer Splash – August 5 - Youth participated in the Out of the Darkness Walk and Anti-Bullying Rally - Surviving the Holidays Grief Support Meeting - October - Annual Breakfast for the Veterans and First Responders, November 10 - Sharing of Thanksgiving food boxes to the community through MISD (last year we served 14 families in 7 schools) - Sharing of Christmas food boxes and Hoodie Drive for families in our community - Sharing and distribution of food to the community in partnership with Sharing Life Community Outreach (Work in progress) - We started Sama-Sama(Coming Together), a group of Filipino-Americans in our community that will serve as a support group to new immigrants. - We plan to do mission in the Philippines next year, June 2019.

2018 Charge Conference (continued) Pastor’s Report (continued) Hopes and dreams Last February 24, we had our church-wide planning. We celebrated our work and ministry together; we identified areas of concerns and improvements; and we shared our hopes and dreams/2020 Vision. Here are the following we lifted: (Discipleship and Evangelism) - 10 new young families joining St. Marks - Filled seats - Vibrant and growing congregation - Making more disciples; go into the world - Do everything in love; do the best we can; be kind (Leadership) - Mentoring and training new leaders - Leadership Retreats - Efficient church organization and integrated activities (Outreach and Nurture) - Invite project transformation - Philippine Mission - 2019 - Continue to strengthen our community outreach programs - Structured Sunday School - Improved communication; colorful and updated Website - Participate in church sports league events (Worship) - Upbeat and lively worship services - Complete praise band - Full choir pews, choir retreats and planning ahead (Trustees, Finance and Stewardship) - Improved landscape - Define church’s entry - Keep the doors open – be financially viable - Paid office staff in finance office In order to focus our key resources and for the leadership of the church to successfully achieve the above-mentioned hopes/dreams, St. Marks has developed a proposed leadership structure. The leadership team will be composed of three major teams namely, Vital Ministries Team, Advisory Team, and the Resource Team. (Please see Nominations Committee report). It has been one year and seven months since my kidney transplant. I continue to praise and thank God for his faithful-ness in my life; for taking care of me and my family, and for giving me strength and inspiration to serve St. Marks. To God be the Glory! The office of the Pastor will serve as the overall leader of the Leadership Team. The office of the Leadership Team chairperson will work alongside the pastor to make sure that all the teams work collabo-ratively and by convening and presiding at quarterly meetings. (Membership and worship are assigned within nurture.) With the month of October comes cooler weather and relief from the hot Texas sum-mers! It is such a blessing to be part of an active group of Christian women who fo-cus on caring for women, children, and youth to make a difference in our world. God bless the St. Marks UMW that has contributed to ongoing missions for over 50 years! Millie

It’s that time of year when we start collecting jackets and coats to be given to MISD elementary school students. (Boys and girls sizes 6-16)

WE NEED YOUR SPECS…June 2019 Philippine Mission Trip plans are progressing. The joint Umphress Road - St. Marks UMC Philippine mission trip is asking for donations of any cheap read-ing glasses, and/or any old glasses you no longer wear. These specs will be delivered to those less fortunate who need glasses. A St. Marks UMC collection box for donations is available in the main hallway entering the sanctuary. Contact Millie Arnold for any questions.
