LETTER FROM THE PRESIDENT AND FOUNDER

I n 2018, our dedication to the Human-Animal Bond has enabled PACT’s Military Pet

Foster Program and Hospital Pet Foster Program to reach new heights. PACT for Animals shattered its record for foster placements in a single year, finding loving, temporary homes for 157 pets. PACT has now assisted over 800 pets and their families since our start in 2011. We could not have helped so many individuals, families, and their pets without the support of our volunteers, fosters, and donors who make it all possible.

In 2018, PACT welcomed the support of major donors like Dogs Trust Worldwide, whose support helped us to continue to expand the reach of our foster programs across the country. PACT also fostered for the first time in Alaska, spreading our reach beyond the contiguous United States! We are so proud of these accomplishments and we look forward to breaking more records and expanding our reach and services in the future.

I am so proud to work with people who truly care for companion animals in the United States. Because of your efforts, we are able to help keep dogs, cats, birds, ferrets, and all kinds of small pets out of animal shelters, out of harms way, and send them home to their owners after military service or hospitalization. PACT’s community is one of pure, unconditional love for pets and the people who love them. Thank you for all that you do.

With Gratitude,

Buzz Miller

MILITARY PET FOSTER PROGRAMSupporting Our Military and Their Beloved Pets

Across the country, every day, men and women of the armed forces are sent to trainings, deployments, and re-assignments in places where their pets cannot go. Even on short trips, without a capable friend or ability to afford expensive kenneling services, military pet owners are forced to unwillingly surrender their beloved pets to animal shelters or rescue groups and never see them again. Imagine going off to fight for our country knowing that your furry family member may be euthanized at a shelter because no one else could help. PACT exists for the men and women who put their lives on the line to protect this country every day. Our Military Pet Foster Program provides the help and support that is crucial to both the animal’s well-being and the owner’s peace of mind.

HOSPITAL PET FOSTER PROGRAMWhat happens to your pet if you are unexpectedly hospitalized for a month or more? What if the emergency housing is not pet-friendly? Across the country, every day, pet-lovers and animal caregivers are hospitalized, but their animals still need daily food, water, and love.

Without a close family member or trusted friend who can care for their pet until the owner recovers, hospitalized pet owners are often left with no options. PACT works directly with hospital patients, their

families, and social workers, to match the companion animal with an appropriate foster home that will give them the care and love they need while their hospitalized owner recovers. PACT’s Hospital Pet Foster Program provides the support that is crucial to both the animal’s well-being and the owner’s peace of mind.

HENRY AND HOBEY

Benjamin’s Pomeranian Henry and Jack Russell Terrier Hobey were

heartbroken to learn that their dad would be deployed for a

couple months to serve as a Captain for the National Guard. They didn’t know how they could find a home as lovable and friendly as Benjamin’s until a foster named Shanlee happily took the two fur balls under her wing while their owner was overseas. The Captain’s boys were treated like family in Shanlee’s home, eating the yummiest bones and playing the most fun games of fetch. Thanks to PACT, rather than having to give away Henry and Hobey to a shelter, Benjamin was able to reunite with his fur babies in NJ, where they would resume snuggles and fun walks at the park!

DUKE

When PACT heard that Melissa was considering surrendering her three month old Great Dane puppy, Duke, we knew we could not let that happen.

With Duke’s mom deployed with the National Guard for three months, it was difficult to find a stable foster home for her furry friend. Even if Melissa wanted to bring her companion along, she knew that Duke would be confined to a crate for far too long, and she didn’t want that for her little pup. By coming to PACT she was in safe hands, as we were able to find the perfect foster home with Leah, who would be able to give Duke a routine fit for such a young puppy. Leah was able to train and love this sweet boy while also fostering his affectionate and excited personality and socializing him with her other dogs. Needless to say, Duke had the best temporary stay imaginable, much to Melissa’s relief. Through PACT, Melissa was eternally grateful to be able to see her furry friend again rather than sending him to an unknown, unfamiliar place.

DEXTER AND REBEL

Melissa and her husband have had Dexter and Rebel for over a year, two lovable pups who have grown to be the best of friends. When the couple would be away for a period of three months, Melissa was terrified at the

thought of surrendering her fur babies to the pound because she would be deployed overseas with the U.S. Navy. PACT had no problem finding the perfect foster for the goofy Boxer and courageous Basenji. Donna came to the rescue and provided the boys with lots of outdoor time and cuddles. She also sent Melissa photos of her boys with signs attached to them that wished her a happy Mother’s Day! With Melissa’s return, she was welcomed back to Maryland with her furry friends waiting for her, making for the perfect reunion.

OLIVER AND LUCY

Chad found himself exhausting family and running out of options to find his two snuggle-loving cats Oliver and Lucy a home while he served

as a Captain for the U.S. Army. It was so important for him to find a calm family that would love and care for his cats as much as he does since his service prohibited him from bringing the cats along. But soon after contacting PACT, Chad would be able to serve for a year receiving updated

pictures of his furry friends and knowing that they were in the loving hands of a foster named Sara. Sara gave Lucy and Oliver a loving home, and treated them as part of her family. They even got their own Christmas stockings over the holidays! With Sara’s help, Oliver and Lucy were able to return to a happy, grateful dad.

AUGGIE

I n July of 2017, Maryland resident Zelda was having some medical issues that required her faithful puppy, Auggie, to be fostered outside of her home for one year.

PACT did not want to see another dog surrendered to an animal shelter, and went immediately to work to find the best foster that would take care of her young Labrador. It wasn’t long before April volunteered to foster Auggie for twelve months, helping Zelda take care of who she referred to as the sweetest dog she has ever known. In a home of love, affection and attention, Auggie felt welcomed the second she entered April’s home, leaving Zelda relieved as she recovered. A year later, to be reunited with her Auggie, Zelda felt the upmost appreciation to have her best friend back at her side.

BOOMER

Three years ago, Tracey rescued sweet Boomer from a South Carolina shelter — needless to say, the pair have been inseparable ever since. But with critical surgeries coming up for Tracey that

would affect her ability to walk, she was confronted with the reality that she could not take care of her best friend for two months. Knowing she could not move forward with her necessary surgeries without providing Boomer with the care he needed, Tracey turned to PACT to find the perfect foster for Boomer. It didn’t take long for us to find Tammy, a foster who would take care of the furry friend and take him for some much-needed walks. Thanks to Tammy and PACT, Boomer returned to his New Jersey home to make up for some much-needed cuddles with Tracey.
