CID parent educators coached caregivers across key topics and skills needed to provide a foundation for a child's growth in listening and spoken language. One goal was for at least 80% of caregivers to increase their knowledge related specifically to helping their child acquire language. In the toddler class, they collected baseline and end-of-semester data on each child's developing play skills and related communication skills.

It’s my pleasure to bring CID’s 2018 annual report to you, as part of a community that creates meaningful change for children who are deaf and hard of hearing and their families. Your generosity enables CID to provide a high-quality foun-dational education to meet the needs of each student, with audiological, speech-language, counseling and occupation-al therapy services designed to prepare them to succeed socially and academically in their neighborhood schools.

The 2017–2018 fiscal and academic year was the second year of our three-year strategic plan. In the opening pages of this report, you may have noticed that we have begun to identify and collect data on new key measurable outcomes for students, families and programs. This work continues.

Our family center and school continued to target areas of instruction that make the biggest measurable differences. One focus is on monthly department-wide language tar-gets. Teachers, SLPs, audiologists and other school staff prompt students to include a specific syntactic target in all school activities throughout each day.

Enlightened by the voices of the professionals we serve, we attended strategically selected conferences to intro- duce influencers to the resources CID has to offer. Enhanced digital marketing, robust website and social media content and recent classic curricula updates (for example, CID TAGS and SPICE) continue to spur growth of the Emerson Center for Professional Development. Our curricula sales, work-shop attendance, access to free resources and online ac-tivities are all picking up. We’re reaching not only individual educators, but many more schools, school districts, clinics and university programs around the world.

During the year, we participated in face-to-face meetings with an increased number of Sponsors and prospective Sponsors. These individuals’ tremendous investments and interest not only support CID financially, but also yield use-ful insights as we consider ways to improve.
