About Olivier NotzBorn in 1961 in Cameroon and growing up near the sea I had very young my first snorkeling experiences in the Gulf of Guinea. In 1974, I moved to Switzerland with my family where I am living since.Although feeling very comfortable in the water I took up scuba diving late and comple-ted my dive training in Switzerland between 1996 and 2001. Today I am a CMAS 4* certified diver with over 950 dives. I dive mostly in Swiss lakes. Diving is for me a very good way to relax.As I am a passionate photographer it was only a matter of time to start underwater photography. I bought my first underwater camera housing in 2001. Since 2016 I am using a Canon EOS 5DS R in a UK-Germany-housing.The lakes in central Switzerland, where I live, offer the perfect opportunity to dive all year round. Further to this I usually spend two weeks diving in warmer climates every year. So far, I visited the Red Sea 14 times and the Maldives three times. Besides I did a few dives in the Atlantic Ocean and on the Californian coast. In May 2012 I dived in the Bali Sea for the first time. To me it was one of the best places I ever dived. Especially the Menjangan Island is absolutely marvelous and I went for a second time in 2014. In January 2015, I could dive at the Ningaloo Reef and at the Busselton Jetty in Western Australia, even though one of the most memorable experience was snorkeling with the playful sea lions at Jurien Bay.Although I have a clear preference for underwater landscapes, large fishes and marine mammals, still I also like macro photography.I work with InterApp AG since 1986, a producer and trading company for valves. To-day I am responsible for the InterApp group product management and the production of the Teflon® butterfly valve series in Rotkreuz, Switzerland. Über Olivier NotzIch wurde 1961 in Kamerun geboren und wuchs in der Nähe des Atlantiks auf. Bereits in jungen Jahren haben mich Schnorchel-Erlebnisse im Golf von Guinea begeistert. 1974 zog ich mit meiner Familie in die Schweiz, wo ich seither lebe.Obwohl ich mich im Wasser sehr wohl fühle, begann ich mit dem Tauchen relativ spät. Zwischen 1996 und 2001 absolvierte ich meine Tauchausbildung in der Schweiz. Heute bin ich CMAS 4*-Taucher mit etwas mehr als 950 Tauchgängen, die meisten davon in Schweizer Seen. Tauchen hilft mir, mich zu entspannen.Als passionierter Fotograf war es für mich nur eine Frage der Zeit, bis ich auch mit der Unterwasser-Fotografie begann. 2001 kaufte ich mein erstes Unterwasser-Kameragehäuse. Seit 2005 verwende ich eine Canon EOS 5DS R in einem Gehäuse von UK-Germany.Ich tauche das ganze Jahr hindurch. Die Seen in der Zentralschweiz bieten die perfekte Gelegenheit dafür. Meist verbringe ich dazu noch 2 Wochen Tauchferien in wärmeren Gewässern. Die Tauchgründe im Roten Meer habe ich bisher 14-mal, die-jenigen der Malediven 3-mal besucht. Ausserdem absolvierte ich einige Tauchgänge im Atlantik und an der kalifornischen Küste. 2012 tauchte ich zum ersten Mal auf Bali. Die Tauchplätze dort sind für mich die schönsten, welche ich bisher gesehen habe. Die Insel Menjangan hat es mir ganz besonders angetan, und so bereiste ich 2014 diese Gegend zum zweiten Mal. Im Januar 2015 hatte ich die Gelegenheit in West-australien am Ningaloo Reef und Busselton Jetty zu tauchen. Ein ganz besonders schönes Australienerlebnis war das Schnorcheln mit den verspielten Seelöwen in der Jurien Bay.Meine Lieblingsmotive unter Wasser sind Landschaften, grosse Fische und Meeres-säuger. Auch die Makrofotografie betreibe ich sehr gerne. Seit 1986 arbeite ich bei InterApp AG, einer Produktions- und Handelsgesellschaft für Regel- und Absperrventile. Heute bin ich für das Produkt Management der InterApp-Gruppe sowie für die Produktion der Teflon® ausgekleideten Absperrklappen in Rotkreuz verantwortlich.Seit 2006 produziere ich meinen eigenen Kalender UnderWaterWorld. Toxic finger-sponge – Negombata magnifica – Red Sea, El Quadim Bay, Egypt Negombata magnifica, commonly known as toxic finger-sponge, is found in the Red Sea and the Indian ocean. Its reddish-brown narrow crooked branches can grow up to 70 cm. This sponge is extremely toxic because of the toxin latrunculin.Gifitiger Fingerschwamm – Negombata magnifica – Rotes Meer, El Quadim B.Negombata magnifica, allgemein bekannt als giftiger Finger-Schwamm, kommt im Roten Meer und im Indischen Ozean vor. Seine rötlichbraunen schmalen, krummen Äste können bis zu 70 cm wachsen. Er ist wegen des Toxins Latrunculin extrem giftig.

Spanish dancer – Hexabranchus sanguineus – Red Sea, El Quadim Bay, EgyptThe Spanish dancer is a large dorid nudibranch which can grow up to a maximum length of 60 cm. Usually it has a size of 20 to 30 cm. It is widespread throughout the tropical and subtropical waters of the Indo-Pacific area from the eastern coasts of Afri-ca to Hawaii and from south Japan to Australia. It feeds on various species of sponge.Spanische Tänzerin – Hexabranchus sanguineus – Rotes Meer, El Quadim Bay, ÄgyptenDie spanische Tänzerin kann eine maximale Länge von 60 cm erreichen. Üblicherwei-se wird sie jedoch nicht mehr als 20 bis 30 cm lang. Die spanische Tänzerin kommt in den tropischen und subtropischen Gewässern des Indo-Pazifiks, von den östlichen Küsten Afrikas bis nach Hawaii und von Süd Japan bis nach Australien vor. Sie ernährt sich von verschiedenen Arten von Schwämmen.

Michel‘s ghost goby – Pleurosicya micheli – Red Sea, El Quadim Bay, EgyptA small semi-transparent goby, usually found on corals and sponges. It is sometimes found on the mantle of clams and its eggs are usually laid on sea squirts. This species has a maximum length of 2.5 cm.Michels Zwerggrundel – Pleurosicya micheli – Rotes Meer, El Quadim Bay Eine kleine halbtransparente Grundel, die gewöhnlich auf Korallen, Schwämmen aber manchmal auch auf dem Mantel von Muscheln zu finden ist. Ihre Eier legt sie in der Regel auf Seescheiden ab. Diese Art wird maximal 2,5 cm gross.

Hawksbill sea turtle – Eretmochelys imbricata – Red Sea, El Quadim Bay, EgyptHawksbill sea turtles are primarily found in tropical coral reefs. As a highly migratory species, they inhabit a wide range of habitats, from the open ocean to lagoons and even mangrove swamps in estuaries. Hawksbill sea turtle may reach 30 to 40 years of age. Here with Striped and Lined butterflyfish.Echte Karettschildkröte – Eretmochelys imbricata – Rotes Meer, El Quadim BayMan findet sie sowohl im offenen Ozean, als auch in Mangrovensümpfen und Fluss-mündungen, doch ist ihr Hauptlebensraum das seichte Korallenriff. Sie ernährt sich von Schwämmen, Rippenquallen und Nesseltieren, darunter auch giftige Vertreter. Echte Karettschildkröten können 30 bis 40 Jahre alt werden. Hier mit Tabak- und Riesenfalterfisch.

Sulphur damsel – Pomacentrus sulfureus – Red Sea, El Quadim Bay, EgyptThe Sulphur damsel inhabits inshore coral reefs, in areas with rich-coral growth. Eggs are laid on the ground and adhere to the substrate. They are guarded and aerate by the males.Zitronengelbe Demoiselle – Pomacentrus sulfureus – Rotes Meer, El Quadim B.Die Zitronengelbe Demoiselle bewohnt küstennahe Riffe, in Gebieten mit reichem Korallen-Bewuchs. Eier werden auf den Boden gelegt und haften am Substrat. Sie werden von den Männchen bewacht und belüftet.

Grunts – Haemulinae – Davis Ledge, Florida KeysHaemulidae is a family of fishes known commonly as grunts. They live in the Gulf of Mexico, the Caribbean, the western Atlantic and the eastern Pacific. They are named for their ability to produce sound by grinding their teeth. On the picture Haemulon flavolineatum, H. sciurus and H. aurolineatum in front of a fan coral.Grunzer – Haemulinae – Davis Ledge, Florida KeysGrunzer, oft auch Schweinsfische genannt, erhielten ihren Namen, weil sie mit ihren Schlundzähnen grunzende Laute erzeugen können. Sie leben im Golf von Mexiko, in der Karibik, im westlichen Atlantik und im östlichen Pazifik. Hier abgebildet sind Haemulon flavolineatum, H. sciurus und H. aurolineatum vor einer Fächerkoralle.

Checklined splendour wrasse – Oxycheilinus digramma – Red Sea, El QuadimThe Checklined splendour wrasse lives on coral lagoons and reefs. The fish mainly eat hard-shell vertebrate, such as molluscs, crustaceans and sea urchins. On the picture, a juvenile female hidden in a soft coral.Wangenstreifen-Prachtlippfisch – Oxycheilinus digramma – Rotes Meer, El Quadim Bay, ÄgyptenDer Wangenstreifen-Prachtlippfisch bewohnt korallenreiche Lagunen und Aussenriffe. Die Fische fressen vor allem hartschalige Wirbellose, wie Weichtiere, Krebstiere und Seeigel. Abgebildet ein juveniles Weibchen in einer Weichkoralle versteckt.

French angelfish – Pomacanthus paru – Pleasure Reef, Florida KeysThe French angelfish lives in the tropical and subtropical Atlantic, from the coast of Brazil to Florida, the Bermuda’s and the southern Caribbean. He also lives in the eastern Atlantic, on the coast of West Africa. The French angelfish feeds on sponges, algae, bryozoans, zoantharians, gorgonians and tunicates.Franzosen-Kaiserfisch – Pomacanthus paru – Pleasure Reef, Florida KeysEr lebt im tropischen und subtropischen Atlantik, von Brasilien bis nach Florida, bei den Bermudas und in der südlichen Karibik. Giant cuttlefish – Sepia apama – Indian Ocean, Western AustraliaThis species is found only in the southern half of Australia. It is the largest sepia spe-cies of the world and males can reach a size of almost one meter. They are diurnal and use their excellent camouflage to hide between reefs and sea grass.Riesensepia – Sepia apama – Indischer Ozean, WestaustralienDiese Art kommt ausschliesslich in der Südhälfte von Australien vor. Sie ist die grösste Sepienart der Welt. Männchen können eine Grösse von fast einem Meter erreichen. Sie sind tagaktiv und nutzen ihre exzellente Tarnung um sich zwischen Riffen und Seegras zu verstecken.

Maroon clownfish – Premnas biaculeatus – Menjangan Island, Bali Sea The maroon clownfish, commonly known as spine-cheeked anemonefish, and with a length of 17 cm the largest anemonefish. It is found the Pacific Ocean and like all anemonefishes it lives in a symbiosis with sea anemones. The fish‘s natural diet includes algae and zooplankton.Samtanemonenfisch – Premnas biaculeatus – Menjangan Island, Bali See Der Samtanemonenfisch ist mit einer maximalen Länge von 17 cm die grösste Art der Anemonenfische. Er unterscheidet sich von allen anderen Anemonenfischen durch einen Stachel am unteren Kiemendeckel, weshalb er auch Stachel-Anemonenfisch genannt wird. Der Samtanemonenfisch kommt in den Korallenriffen vom Pazifik vor und lebt mit der Blasenanemone als Symbiosepartner zusammen.

Dugong – Dugong Dugon – Red Sea, Sheik Malik, EgyptThe dugong, has a dolphin-like tail and forms with the round tail sea cow or manatees the order of the manatee (Sirenia). While the Manatee species occasionally visit the fresh water, the dugong is almost exclusively leaving in salt water. Its present distri-bution area includes the coasts of the Indian Ocean and parts of the West Pacific. Während die Manatiarten gelegentlich das Süsswasser aufsuchen, hält sich der Dugong fast ausschliesslich im Salzwasser auf. Sein heutiges Verbreitungsgebiet umfasst die Küsten des Indischen Ozeans und Teile des Westpazifiks. Dugongs ernähren sich von Seegras.

Bighead Gurnard Perch – Neosebastes pandus – Indian Ocean, W. AustraliaNeosebastes pandus belongs to the order of the Scorpionfishes and flatheads and is found only from South Australia to southern Western Australia. It inhabits rocky reefs and sandy substrates in shallow to deep waters.Skorpionfisch – Neosebastes pandus – Indischer Ozean, WestaustralienNeosebastes pandus gehört zur Ordnung der Skorpionfische und ist ausschliesslich in Südaustralien und im südlichen Westaustralien zu finden. West Atlantic Trumpetfish – Aulostomus maculatus – Florida KeysThe trumpetfish is widespread throughout the tropical waters of the western Atlantic Ocean from Florida to Brazil including the Caribbean Sea and the Gulf of Mexico. It feeds almost exclusively on small fish and shrimp. Trumpetfish can be up to one meter but usually not more than 60 centimeters long.Westatlantischer Trompetenfisch – Aulostomus maculatus – Florida KeysDer Westatlantische Trompetenfisch ist im westlichen tropischen Atlantik von den Bermudas über die Südküste Floridas bis zur Nordküste Südamerikas verbreitet.
