Areas of study include (but are not limited to) informative, extemporaneous, persuasive, and impromptu speaking. You will deliver a variety of speeches and performances within these areas of study. This class will provide you with an opportunity to develop effective skills in the research, organization, writing, delivery and presentation of speeches. You will also become familiar with and understand some basic interpersonal communication skills You will have at least five opportunities to speak in front of the class consisting of four major speeches, debate and an oral interpretation. Your manuscript/notes for each speech will be turned in two school days before your presentation. You will be evaluated using a rubric, and will also be required to evaluate three peers for every speech you give (not including your final impromptu speech). Your evaluations will be no longer than 300 words and will address specific areas indicated by the template provided. You will also evaluate famous speeches by well-known people. There will be several days we will spend on computers, performing research and writing speeches and talking points. You are expected to be on task at all times.
