MYP Verification Visit
LA always strive to provide our students with quality education. To achieve this end, we are seeking authorization from the IB in order to become the only DSS through-train IB World School in Hong Kong that provides PYP, MYP and DP curriculum.
On 23 and 24 May, IB MYP verification team members visited our school and conducted a review to see if our policies and practices are in line with the IB’s requirements. They observed our lessons, met with senior management as well as teachers and discussed with a group of parents to get a wholistic picture of the readiness of LA. We received positive comments from them and will keep on improving ourselves according to the helpful suggestions given.

The first ever LA STREAM Carnival was held on 4 May successfully. STREAM is an educational curriculum that combines Science, Technology, Reading and wRiting, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics. During the carnival, our students showcased how our school integrated STREAM concepts into classroom teaching and their achievements in STREAM curriculum to parents, friends and the public by organizing different kinds of interactive activities.
The Carnival was kicked off by the opening ceremony officiated by Mr. Wilson WONG M.H., the vice-chairman of Yuen Long District Council. Throughout the day, students and guests enjoyed different workshops and game stalls that were organized by both primary and secondary students. Besides, “AI & the Future Thoughts”, which was an interactive STREAM drama with guided tour written and directed by our teacher and performed by our Primary Cantonese Drama Group, played to a full house for two consecutive sessions.
Thanks everyone for your active support. All funds received from this grand event were contributed to the “School Development Project”. This was a good opportunity for us to collaborate all the efforts of the School, parents, students and friends to make LA a better place!

China-Hong Kong Relations

To enhance Year 10 to 11 (DSE) students’ understanding and knowledge on China- Hong Kong relations, a Seminar on “One Belt and One Road” and China-Hong Kong Relations was organized on 24 May.
We were glad to have Mr. KUNG Wai Wai, the First Secretary and Mr. YANG Kwai Man, the Second Secretary from the Office of the Commissioner of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of the People’s Republic of China in the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region to host this seminar. Throughout the seminar, he shared Hong Kong’s possible roles in the “One Belt and One Road” Initiative as well as the opportunities and challenges that Hong Kong will face in the future and helped students understand the development of modern China and enhanced students’ care for China.
Spiritual Growth Corner
As the Christian Learning Center has been officially opened, a series of activities aiming at strengthening our students' spiritual power are organized. Students can join our program of Strengthening your Spiritual Power (SSP) from Monday to Friday by going to the Christian Learning Center during recess and recite a bible verse from the student organizers. A small gift is given to participated students and more importantly, we hope that students can memorize bible scripture and crave God's words in their hearts.
During lunch recess, activities are organized for primary and secondary students. Primary students can join our "Sing and Dance, Praise the Lord" in every lunch recess on Tuesday and Thursday. How beautiful it is that we can praise our Lord with our lips and bodies, and may the songs we sing become a pleasing offering to God.
For secondary students, a "Be Free" session is set up for them to come over and relax every Monday lunchtime. Secondary students may come across pressure from studies and personal relationships, then this is the place where they can find peace and rest in God's presence and love. There's also a quiet sharing time called "Chat-Hour" in which students can share their stories and anything related to their spiritual conditions. This is a precious time in which relationship among students can be built and we can learn how to trust God by talking (praying) to Him about all our troubles and happenings in life.
We thank God for giving us such a beautiful space, the Christian Learning Center, where we can build up a closer relationship with each other, and most importantly, we can be more connected to our Lord by memorizing His words, praising Him and praying to Him.
"Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you. For everyone who asks receives; the one who seeks finds; and to the one who knocks, the door will be opened." (Matthew 7:7-8)

Library Corner
In this issue we’d like to share on our library support in STREAM Carnival, Secondary team participation in Inter-School Battle of Books (HKBOB) Competition, PYP Unit 6 Resources, and Chinese books recommended for our Secondary students to read.
Library Support in STREAM Carnival
For the STREAM Carnival, our library team arranged Book Fair with STREAM-related books during May 4 in Room 123. We have invited three book suppliers, namely 4P Multimedia Software Ltd, Active Minds Ltd, and BabyBoom through the tender notice and they have given a reasonable discount to our students. We have a vast variety of books for the students to choose and buy. Students were so excited to see their favourite author’s books. Our library also purchased some useful STREAM-related books that would be very much helpful to our students.
Secondary Team Participation in HKBOB Competition
Our students participated in the HKBOB Inter-school Competition on May 8. They tried their best and put up a good fight till the end but narrowly missed the chance to enter the finals. Wish them a better luck next time. Our sincere thanks goes to all the participants for their team spirit. We are sure this competition helped them read some good titles.
8 MAY
PYP Unit 6 Resources Now our primary students are doing their last unit for this academic year. Our library staff arranged some useful resources for their learning by providing block loan books from our local public library. We have also purchased some new books related to this unit in addition to the available prints and online resources. We are also going to take some library lessons in the coming weeks.
Year 1 Living and non-living things

Year 6 Feelings and expression
Book Recommendation The TV series Heavenly Sword and Dragon Slaying Sabre (), adapted from Louis Cha ()'s novel of the same title, is currently a hit. We all enjoy watching the TV series and highly recommend students to read the novel to compare the differences between the TV series and the original fiction. We strongly believe those who love watching the TV series will also love the novel as well. If you are interested, you can find the book series in our library on the Senior Fiction (Chinese) Shelf.
