CourseDescription* This course is designed to provide students with fundamental concepts and

principles of absorption, distribution, metabolism and elimination of drugs,

environmental chemicals, and nanomaterials by the body. The course also

covers actual applications of the pharmacokinetic knowledge using case studies

of commonly dosed drugs, common environmental contaminants, and

nanomaterials.

Rationale and Impact (NEW)

Rationale*

Pharmacokinetics is a foundational course in many graduate

programs in the broad field of life sciences, including physiology,

pharmacology, pathobiology, biochemistry, animal science, and

veterinary biomedical sciences. This course will benefit students in

multiple graduate programs at KSU.

Curriculog https://kstate.curriculog.com/agenda:515/print

1 of 29 11/7/2018, 10:02 AM

The ability to apply pharmacokinetic principles to address

veterinary-specific situations in the clinic and research is critical for

veterinary students. This course will benefit DVM students at KSU.

This course is one of the core courses of the Graduate Certificate

Program in Computational Medicine that the ICCM faculty

members are developing. This course will support the teaching

mission of the ICCM and Department of Anatomy and Physiology,

as well as help ICCM faculty to continue to develop the graduate

certificate program.

In the past, a former faculty member Dr. Ronette Gehring in Department of

Anatomy and Physiology taught a similar course entitled “Clinical

Pharmacokinetics”. However, Dr. Gehring left KSU in 2017 and her course was

not offered in 2017. It is likely that her course will no longer be offered. As a

result, it is important to create a similar course to fill this gap.

CourseDescription* Covers basic principles and tools of the geosciences and their applications.

See Need help?  Course Description Guidelines

Rationale and Impact (NEW)

Rationale*College of education, along with a number of other colleges/degree programs

across campus, have reduced, or are in the process of reducing, total student

credit hours required for graduation to 120. as a result, difficult choices are

being made to eliminate important course experiences because they no longer

fit within the reduced "budget". A 3-credit-hour intro geology course for some

education majors is one such casualty. In order to preserve at least some

exposure to the geosciences for these (and other) students, we are proposing to

offer a 1-credit-hour, intro-level geology laboratory experience based on GEOL

103 (Geology Laboratory). GEOL 103 is a one-credit-hour lab experience

designed to partner with an intro-level geology lecture course, e.g. GEOL 100,

GEOl 102, or GEOL 125; enrollment in one of these lecture sections is a pre- or

co-requirement for enrollment in GEOL 103. The new course we are proposing

here, GEOL 104, would have no pre-requisites. It would still introduce students

to principles of geology and would cover similar topics to those presented in

GEOL 103 (e.g. identification of rocks and minerals, use of geologic and

topographic maps, principles of stream and groundwater flow, processes of

landform development), but the information would be tailored to be consistent

with the anticipated knowledge level for students who are not enrolled in a

3-credit-hour intro-level geology lecture course.

Impact Statement(i.e. if this

impacts anotherunit)*

The impact of this course is expected to be highly positive. It is designed to fill

the gap in science/geoscience course opportunities created by the reduction in

total student credit hours for a number of degree programs. We have

communicated our plans to the chair of the College of Education Faulty

Assembly & Executive Committee, and she is strongly supportive. This new

course is viewed as a way of maintaining at lease some exposure to the

geosciences. This is particularly important, given the need for many secondary

education majors to teach Earth and Space Sciences - a required content area

in the K-12 progression in the Next Generation Sciences Standards (NGSS)

Description* Emphasis on defamation, privacy, copyright, administrative controls and other

legal areas.

Rationale and Impact (CHANGE)

Rationale*MC 466 Law of Mass Communication has been listed as fulfilling a K-State 8

"Historical" requirement. However, the more accurate designation is "Ethical

Reasoning and Responsibility" and this action seeks to make that minor

adjustment. Also, the course carried the "Junior standing" prerequisite, and this

action will eliminate that requirement.
