VBS NEWS!!!!

JUNE 25th - 28th

SAVE THE DATES!!!!

Hope United Methodist will be teaming up with the Ingham Okoboji Lutheran Bi-ble Camp for VBS Day Camp again this summer!! At Day Camp, kids will encoun-ter a fun week packed with Christ-centered activities, games, arts and crafts,

songs, skits and Bible-based lessons.

A team of Christ-centered, trained and energetic staff from Ingham Okoboji Camp will once again be leading the week’s activities here at Hope UMC, Pocahontas Center!! We would like to put together a prayer team to begin praying for this important event. If you are interested in being “on the team” please contact a member of the Education Ministry Team or the church office. Covering all of these young people in prayer is such a gift!!

Our VBS theme this year is “Seek First”, based on Matthew 6:33. The Education Team is excited to be working and preparing the way for the Ingham staff to arrive in late June. Please be watching for future bulle-tins, newsletters, and of course those clipboards for ways you can help make this year’s VBS a blessing for kids in our community. Join us this summer and “Seek First!”

The last day of Sunday School

will be Mother's Day, May 13th.

See you in the fall!!

Thanks to all who helped with kitchen cleaning at Pocahontas.

Days for Girls mission project completed. Bags, pads, protectors, panties and soaps were picked up on April 27. Thanks to Vicki Kerns for all of her help on this project. Thanks to all those who made the bags, pads, and protectors. Thanks to all who donated panties and soap. The UMW also gave a donation to Days for Girls organization for shipping and other supplies needed.

UMW will be taking over the annual “Nut Sale” that was part of the Plover Bazar for many years. This year it will be held in Pocahontas on October 13 from 10 am – 1 pm. A lunch of hot sandwiches, chips and bars will be served for eat-in or take-out along with the nut sales. Be sure to add that event to your fall calendar!

The next UMW noon luncheon will be held June 21, 2018. Peace circle will be in charge of the meal and devotions.

A reminder from the Missions Committee

Thank you for all your help collecting supplies for the cleaning buckets and layettes. Already

the Midwest Mission Distribution Center has sent 150 cleaning buckets to Michigan. The

snowmelt from the most recent storms will be rapid and will more than likely lead to flooding.

The number of items listed on each tear-off slip represents the number that goes in each kit.

If you purchase packages with more or less, that is fine. All packaging is removed and the kits

are packed with the correct numbers. Items are due May 28. Large collection boxes are at

both centers. More kit information is on the bulletin boards. And... monetary donations are

also appreciated. Just indicate "kits" in the memo line of your check.

Leadership Team Meeting

April 12, 2018, 7:00 p.m.

Friendship Room

Pocahontas Center

Attendance: Pastor Kris, Sharon Hauswirth, Carol Hallman, Dixie Gottsch, Linda Ferguson, Melissa Rahn, Vicki Kerns, Elaine Cook, Gary Zhorne, Candace Larson, Brad Cook, Joan Rein-hart, Carol McCurdy, and Judy Timan.

Sharon called the meeting to order and opened with a devotion and prayer.

The minutes were read silently. Elaine moved and Brad seconded to approve the minutes as printed. Ayes all.

Melissa gave the treasurer’s report. 2018 apportionments and district askings are paid through March. Ending balance: $25,570.26. Dixie moved and Carol H. seconded to approve the treasurer’s report. Ayes all.

Ministry Team Reports

Trustees – Brad reported. He will be working with Tony Seiler to look at the sewage lines us-ing cameras. All furniture is out of the parsonage. The Havelock bell tower is showing decay with outside bricks coming loose. Two contractors have looked at the problem. The recom-mendation is to lower the bell tower to the roofline. Brad will finalize plans to have this done.

Education – Pastor reported. May 6 is the senior recognition and potluck dinner. The com-mittee is working on plans for VBS.

Outreach & Member Care – Elaine reported. The committee is still working on finding a musi-cal group to perform at our church in the next year. She needs any ideas of groups that do programs. Recommended attending the movie I Can Only Imagine.

Worship – Carol reported. The Holy Week services were very nice and the choir sang at all three services. She reported on some comments about summer worship and Pastor Kris re-ported on the feelings at Havelock-Plover. Overall, the opinions seem to lean toward continu-ing with the current schedule during the summer months. Pastor Kris moved leaving worship times the same as they currently are. Gary seconded the motion. Ayes all.

Missions – Dixie reported. The Mobile Food Pantry is well manned but could use a few more to help with the cleanup. The April Free Saturday Supper is planned. Bingo was successful and will be continued. A 2018 NW District Matthew 25 grant for $1000 was received and the midyear report was submitted. Donations to Rachel Potter for her mission trip to Tanzania were $1400.

UMW – Joan reported. UMW members have served two Lenten lunches, one UMW lunch-eon and one funeral dinner in the last six weeks. Members have been sewing and collecting supplies for kits for Days for Girls, the 2018 UMW mission project. Pocahontas is taking over the nut sales and a sales event and harvest lunch are scheduled for October 13.

SPRC – Linda will be making an announcement about an appointment April 15.

Pastor’s Report – Pastor Kris reported. Carol McCurdy will be attending Annual Conference for Donnie McClain who is unable to attend this year. Pastor had three days of continuing ed-ucation this week.

Pastor Kris closed with prayer.

The next meeting is May 10, 2018 at 7:00 p.m.

Respectfully submitted,

Judy Timan
