1 Elizabethtown got the dual victory over the Bullets last season at Gettysburg as E-town jumped out to a 19-6 lead and never looked back. It was the first win over GC in four tries.
2 Josh McLaughlin is the top returning performer from that match on Jan. 19, 2018. A freshman a year ago, McLaughlin pinned Louie Carusillo at 4:22 to push the Jays’ lead to 9-0 after the 133-pound bout.
3 Between the North/South duals at Ursinus where Elizabethtown got its first dual victory of the season and matches at Scranton and at Shippensburg, Colton Rex went 6-0 in his matches over that stretch. The junior won in four different ways at the N/S duals, earning a decision over Muhlenberg’s Joshua Hickey, 12-5, tech fall over Ursinus’ Brandon Miller, 16-0 (3:12), pinning Stephen Masi of Rhode Island College in 4:58, and a forfeit win at 133 in the last dual of the day against Penn College. Rex also won by forfeit at Scranton and earned a major decision of Jake Downing (SHIP), 9-0. He is now the Blue Jays’ wins leader with 20 on the season.
4 Gettysburg has a pair of ranked wrestlers coming into tonight’s match: senior Colin Kowalski, a d3wrestle.com contender at 174, and senior Paul Trifandafilou, who is No. 7 in the NWCA poll and No. 6 in d3wrestle.com at heavyweight.
Kowalski leads the Bullets with 21 wins this season along with a team-high 10 pin falls and 5 major decisions. Triandafilou is second in the wins column with 18.
In their most recent match, on Jan. 12 at Delaware Valley, Gettysburg got out to a 21-0 lead. Kowalski’s major decision at 174 gave him his 93rd career victory and made it 25-5. A forfeit at 285 for Triandafilou made it a 37-11 final as the Bullets improved to 4-2.
5 Elizabethtown will compete at the Pete Willson-Wheaton Invitational next weekend in Wheaton, Ill.
