DOUG DERRAUGHHead Coach of Women’s Ice Hockey14th Season at Cornell • Cornell ’91

Now entering his 14th season directing the Cornell women’s hockey program in 2018-19, Doug Der-raugh has brought the Big Red women to their place among the nation’s elite. Derraugh has a 243-144-36 record in his first 13 seasons as the head coach of the Big Red, with his 200th win coming in the form of a 4-2 win in 2016 against Yale. Cornell has made the ECAC Hockey Tournament each of the last 10 seasons, won the tournament four of the last eight years and advanced to the NCAA Tournament in six of those seasons. The 2017 ECAC Hockey Coach of the Year guided the Big Red to the national title game in his fifth season and back-to-back-to-back NCAA Frozen Four appearances in 2010, 2011 and 2012. He led the team to five consecutive 20-win seasons for the first time in program history in 2009-10, 2010-11, 2011-12, 2012-13 and 2013-2014.

The 2010-11 Big Red squad set a Cornell record for the most wins ever by a Cornell hockey program, men’s or women’s, by winning 31 games. The Cornell women’s team also became the first women’s pro-gram in any sport at Cornell to make a second trip to that respective sport’s final four. In the 2011-12 season, Cornell again reached the 30-win mark and reached the Frozen Four in Duluth, Minn. Cornell returned to the NCAAs in 2013-14, claiming the ECAC Hockey Tournament championship for the fourth time in five years by beating Clarkson 1-0.

Derraugh has led the Big Red to four consecutive ECAC Hockey and Ivy League regular season titles between the 2009-2010 season and the 2012-2013 season, and four of the last five ECAC Hockey tour-nament titles. His peers have recognized his efforts, as Derraugh was named the 2010 AHCA Division I Coach of the Year, the ECAC Hockey Coach of the Year in 2011, 2013 and 2017.

Derraugh’s tireless efforts on the recruiting trail have paid off, as the Big Red has assembled an impressive array of talent. In just his first six seasons, Derraugh added eight players who were a member of the Canadian U22 National Team program, including one, Rebecca Johnston, who was a member of the Canadian National Team that won the gold medal at the 2010 Winter Olympics in Vancouver. Three other players in 2011-12 – Brianne Jenner, Laura Fortino and Lauriane Rougeau – were on the Ca-nadian National Team roster for the 4 Nations Cup in November 2011 and November 2012, as well as the 2012 and 2013 IIHF Women’s World Champi-onships in Burlington, Vt., and Ottawa, Ontario. Johnston, Jenner, Fortino and Rougeau all were also part of the Canadian National Team that won gold at the 2014 Sochi Olympics in Russia. Most recently, Hanna Bunton, Cassandra Poudrier, Micah Hart and Marlène Boissonnault have been prospects for Team Canada. The 2016-17 team featured two play-ers who have spent time with the senior Canadian National Team in Hanna Bunton and Micah Hart, and three players that were named to the Canada

In 2010, Derraugh led the Big Red to its first Ivy League title since 1996 and the program’s first-ever ECAC regular-season and tournament titles. The Big Red also won an ECAC playoff game and series for the first time in school history, then remained unbeaten with two more wins in the playoffs to advance to the NCAA tournament for the first time in school history.

Cornell has earned its success on the ice, leading the nation in penalty-killing percentage in both 2010 and 2011 and recording the nation’s top scoring defense in 2011 and the second-best scoring defense in 2013. The 2011-12 team had the nation’s best scoring offense and winning percentage.

With the team’s overall success, individual honors have followed. Cornell has had seven different players combine for 15 All-America honors in Derraugh’s tenure, led by the program’s first first-team honoree, Laura Fortino ‘13. Lauriane Rougeau ‘13 has also been named to the second team four times, Catherine White ‘12 earned one second-team mention in 2010 and Rebecca Johnston ‘12 earning a first-team nod in 2012 and second-team honors twice. Brianne Jenner was added to that list in 2013 when she was named a First Team All-American for the first time in her career, then she added a second honor in 2015. Jillian Saulnier added a first-team nod in 2014 along with Alyssa Gagliardi ’14 second-team honors.

Additionally, the Big Red picked up its first-ever ECAC Hockey Player of the Year honor in 2010 when White received the award. Johnston claimed the award in 2012, and Jenner earned it the follow-ing year. Cornell has also had eight of the last nine Ivy League Players of the Year (White - 2010; Forti-no – 2011; Johnston – 2012; Jenner – 2013; Saulnier – 2014; Jenner – 2015; Hanna Bunton – 2017; Kristin O’Neill – 2018) and nine of the last 10 Ivy League Rookies of the Year (Johnston - 2008; White - 2009; Rougeau - 2010; Jenner – 2011; Saulnier – 2012; Hanna Bunton – 2014; Erin O’Connor – 2015; Kristin O’Neill – 2017; Maddie Mills – 2018).

The Big Red’s success from 2010-13 was the culmi-nation of the groundwork laid during the first four seasons under Derraugh’s direction. In 2008-09, he guided the Big Red to its second straight ECAC Hockey tournament appearance and a 12-14-5 over-all record. In 2007-08, the Big Red claimed its first spot in the ECAC Hockey playoffs since the 2003-04 season, finishing the year with a 12-17-1 mark and an eighth-place finish in the league race.

A 1991 graduate of Cornell, Derraugh took over the Big Red program after a 13-year career playing pro-fessionally in Europe, seeing action with nine dif-

ferent teams in some of the top leagues in Norway, Germany, Austria and Finland. He scored more than 100 points in a season twice and posted 30 points or more 10 times. He ended his professional career with 257 goals and 347 assists in 637 professional contests. In his final season, Derraugh also served as special teams coach for his team.

While a student at Cornell, Derraugh played in all 119 contests for the Big Red over his four years, helping to lead the Big Red to an NCAA tournament appearance and a second-place finish in the ECAC as a senior co-captain. He led the team in scoring in his final season with 30 goals and 36 assists, earning second-team All-Ivy League and honorable mention All-ECAC honors. His 30 goals in the 1990-91 sea-son are the most ever scored by a senior at Cornell. Overall, he ranks 10th all-time at Cornell in career scoring with 153 points on 66 goals and 87 assists.

A native of Arnprior, Ontario, Derraugh graduated from Cornell in 1991 with a degree in biological sci-ences. He and his wife, Louise, have three children.

EDITH RACINEAssistant Coach of Women’s Ice Hockey10th Season at Cornell • Elmira ’05

Edith Racine is entering her 10th season as an assistant coach with the Cornell women’s hockey team in 2018-19. A former goaltender with a pair of national titles to her credit at Elmira College, she has been instrumental in the continual development of the Big Red’s netminders.

Under her direction, the Big Red has seen a dramatic improvement in its goal-tenders.

During the 2016-17 campaign, Racine helped both of the Big Red goaltenders to spots among the nation’s elite. Paula Voorheis finished her career ranked sec-ond all-time in save percentage (.925) and saves (2,238), third all-time in goals against average (2.14) and fourth all-time in wins (42) and shutouts (9). In her senior season, Voorheis recorded career lows in save percentage (.944) – which was also the second-best single season save percentage in program history – and goals against average (1.59), numbers that ranked her third and eighth overall in the nation. Additionally, sophomore Marlene Boissonnault went 10-1-2 for the nation’s second-best winning percentage (.846) while posting the fourth-best goals against average (1.52). Both Voorheis and Boissonnault earned All-Ivy Second Team honors.

In 2012-13, Lauren Slebodnick took over the starting goaltending role and had the country’s sixth-best goals against average, its sixth-best winning percent-age and its 10th-best save percentage. Slebodnick finished her senior year in 2013-14 with the top spot in Cornell history for career wins with 68, fourth-most saves (1,668) and fourth-best save percentage (.924).

As her career came to a close in 2011-12, Amanda Mazzotta became the team’s then-all-time leader in wins (53). The tandem of Slebodnick and Mazzotta

DEAN JACKSONAssistant Coach of Women’s Ice HockeySecond Season at Cornell • Elmira ‘03

Dean Jackson is entering his second season as an assistant coach with the Cor-nell women’s hockey team in 2018-19.

In his first season as a member of the Big Red’s coaching staff, Cornell advanced to the ECAC Hockey Semifinal and finished with the No. 7 spot in both of the the major college hockey polls.

Jackson joined the staff in June 2017 after most recently serving as the interim head coach of women’s hockey at Penn State during the 2016-17 season. Prior to his appoinment at Penn State, Jackson was the head coach of women’s ice hockey at his alma matter Elmira College from 2012-16.

In his four years in charge of the Soaring Eagles, Jackson amassed an overall record of 94-19-4. He became the fastest coach to record 50 wins in program his-tory, reaching that mark in just 63 games. After taking over the Soaring Eagles in 2012-13, Jackson led the program to its third NCAA Division III Championship and became the first women’s ice hockey coach, in any division, to lead a team to a national championship without a single All-American selection.

Jackson went on to lead the program to four straight NCAA Tournament appearances, making a return to the NCAA championship during the 2014-15 season. While at Elmira, Jackson was named the 2015 American Hockey Coach-

finished fourth and fifth in the country in goals against average during the 2011-12 campaign, and Slebodnick had the nation’s best winning percentage.

In 2010-11, Mazzotta finished as the national leader in goals-against average, allowing a mere 1.11 goals per game, with Mazzotta’s backup, Lauren Slebod-nick, finishing second in the country with 1.15 goals allowed per game. The pair also finished second and third, respectively, in save percentage, with both net-minders stopping better than 94 percent of the shots faced during the season.

In 2009-10, Racine’s first season with the team, Mazzotta picked up a spot on the all-tournament team at the NCAA championships, setting a championship game record for most saves in a game. That season, she finished sixth in the nation in goals-against average (1.53) and 11th in save percentage (.928), but led the nation with 11 shutouts, the most in a single season by a Cornell goal-tender, male or female.

Before joining the Big Red prior to the 2009-10 season, Racine, a 2005 graduate of Elmira College, coached for two seasons at Brown University, first as a volun-teer assistant during the 2007-08 season and then as a full-time assistant coach in 2008-09. Under her guidance, Brown goaltender Nicole Stock posted a .922 save percentage last year, good for 16th in the nation and sixth in ECAC Hockey. Her coaching career also includes six summers as the head goaltending instruc-tor at the Elite Hockey Camp in Hanover, N.H.

As a player, Racine played four seasons with the Elmira College women’s hockey team, guiding her squad to a pair of national titles and a national runner-up finish. She was twice named All-American by the American Collegiate Hockey Association.

es Association DIII National Coach of the Year and ECAC West Conference Coach of the Year, the 2013 D3Hockey.com National Coach of the Year and CaptainU National Coach of the Year, and was an AHCA National Coach of the Year Finalist in 2016 and 2013.

Prior to his stint as the Elmira women’s hockey head coach, Jackson was an assistant men’s hockey coach from 2007-12, guiding the Soaring Eagles to five consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances and one trip to the NCAA Frozen Four in 2008.

Jackson had a stellar four-year playing career with the Soaring Eagles from 1999-2003. He was named the ECAC West Rookie of the Year in 1999, earned the ECAC West All-Conference Player and ECAC West Tournament Most Out-standing Player in 2003, and was a member of the 100 Point Club. Additionally, Jackson was a four-year member of the golf team. Following his career at Elmira, Jackson played four seasons of professional hockey, skating for the Elmira Jackals of the United Hockey League and the Fayetteville Fireantz and Richmond Rene-gades of the Southern Professional Hockey League.

Jackson graduated from Elmira College in 2003 with a bachelor of science degree in business administration.
