WORKSHOP DESCRIPTIONS

DISCOVERY THROUGH PLAY by SEEMA OMAR AND TEHANI CHITTY

Ages - 4-6 year olds. Differently-abled participants are welcome.

Discovery through play will enhance the sense of self through engaging senses, activating the imagination and creating an awareness of feelings to develop resilience and self regulation in order to develop healthy and content lives.

DRAMA: LET’S TELL FANTASTIC STORIES by SULOCHANA DISSANAYAKE

Ages - 4-6 year and 7-12 year olds

Discover the myriad of ways your body and voice can be used to make fantastic stories. Use drama, puppets, story-telling, music, mime and movement to mesmerize audiences with your own creations. This workshop will equip children with necessary skills to express their emotions and ideas in safe and healthy ways, empowering them confidence and creativity essential for success.

DANCE: EXPLORING RHYTHM AND MOVEMENT by CHITRASENA SCHOOL OF DANCE

Ages - 4 – 6 and 7 to 12 year olds. Differently abled participants are welcome.

Conducted by teachers from the Chitrasena School of Dance, these workshops will focus on using Traditional Kandyan positions and movements to the drum, as well as free movement to enable participants to tell stories and express themselves through dance.

ROBOTICS: IGNITERSPACE YOUNG INNOVATOR

Ages - 7 to 12 year olds

Inspire the young generation of today to become technology creators of tomorrow! These workshops enhance a child’s technical creativity and give them a hands on experience of innovation, technology and engineering. Additional material fee applies.

MUSICAL COMEDY: SIGHTS, SOUNDS, STORIES by LARRY T HILL

Ages - 7 to 12 year olds. Differently abled participants are welcome.

Designed to enhance creativity and build confidence where participants take turns being directors, narrators, actors, comedians and more! Not just for the dramatic at heart, but good for anyone who just wants to play, learn and laugh a lot!

NEW AT CK! GIRLS, BOYS AND OUR BODIES by SUBHA WIJESIRIWARDENA

Ages - 7 to 12 year olds

Explore the importance of mutual respect in co-existing in a world full of different people. An empowering series of workshops designed to explore gender roles, body confidence, self esteem and self awareness. Participants will playfully learn the power of language and personal action required to create a more equal world for all.

Ages - 10 to 19 year olds

Take a photo worth a thousand words! Our lives are centered on taking and sharing photos so now’s the time to learn the basics of photography with some grounding theories and their practical applications to improve your skills in this popular art. Includes a field trip! Final selections will be exhibited at the public sharing.

Materials: All participant require a digital camera. Laptop with photoshop editing software is optional.
