2017 Winter Newsletter Dear AAMSSA members, The past four months were packed with exiting activities and serious issues addressed by the Exco.

The Exiting AAMSSA AGM…. A successful AAMSSA AGM was held at AMCSA 2017 Congress. Michelle Westcott AAMSSA Treasurer presented the healthy financial status of AAMSSA and Cobus van Niekerk (AAMSSA president) presented the annual report reflecting the successes driving the healthy financial status of the society, supported by:

• Corporate Members 2017 : Allergan, Genop, Hyalual, Tasosol, Ascendis Health, FPD ,AMCSA (contribution directly to AAMSSA members) and

• Corporate Supporters 2017: DermaV/Filorga, Longevity, Hair Restoration SA, Skin Rejuvenation Technology.

• Increased Dr membership - from 100 (2015) to 155 with almost 100% paid up members in June 2017.

• FPD partnership and profit share,

• Peer Review and Endorsement of programs.

• High quality training and education in the field of Aesthetic and Anti-aging medicine through the society. AAMSSA endorsed 74 CPD accredited meetings and issued more than 611 certificates.

Other AAMSSA important activities on behalf of the

members included:

• HPCSA negotiations for final signature of the FPD ADAM the AAMSSA referral course for Advanced Aesthetic Medicine training.

The FPD ADAM Course is currently Peer Reviewed by AAMSSA Exco.

• Maintaining Active working relationships with other professional groups in our environment (Dermatology and Plastic Surgeon Society, Cosmedica) and 3rd parties SAMA, MCC and HPCSA.

• Marketing and exposure with Longevity the current AAMSSA partner in achieving this goal and in future A2 Aesthetic & Anti-

Ageing Magazine to broaden this exposure.

• Medico-legal and inter-professional support on behalf of its members.

• AAMSSA is International Quality, Cobus van

AAMSSA office will Address salons and individuals performing injections or medical procedures without being qualified and registered with HPCSA and companies selling medical devices to non-medical person. This process ensures the protection of your identity and the possibility of victimization and legal threats. (Refer to important email 8 June – Standard Operations Procedure of Logging Complaints as an AAMSSA member)

AAMSSA Ombud function: is to support the member in resolving complaints before resort to formal investigations where this is possible and desirable. Ombud function is only applicable if in Scope of Practise and HPCSA Good Practice rules and regulation is of concern.

Protection, Guidance and Important Information – AAMSSA is the HPCSA referral Society when Scope of Practise of the medical practitioner, special interest Aesthetic Medicine is considered. AAMSSA ‘s priority is therefor to ensure our members maintain and apply standards of professional conduct and practice to effectively protect the interests of the public and our profession. AAMSSA members should adhere to these stipulations as it relates to them to prevent legal action.

AAMSSA member Adhere: Patient Rights and Illegal Imports: A recent High Court hearing brought to light the patient’s right to access their own medical records. The Ethical Guidelines from the Health Professions Council of South Africa (HPCSA) are very clear about patients’ rights. Debbie Norval’s Journal Club Initiative is the AAMSSA Academic Committee approved and endorsed standard of Journal Club meetings. The aim of the Journal Club is education, share best practices, complication management, practical trainings and support to the AAMSSA member.
