FROM THE PRESIDENT

SKILL BUILDING WORKSHOPS (MONDAY) • 8:00 am - 5:30 pm Board Review

(Bielinski)

• 8:00 - 10:30 am Slit Lamp (Gordon)

• 11:30 am – 2:30 pm Crash Course in Clinical Skills (Gordon)

• 12:00 – 5:00 pm ACLS (Fullard)

(Vacala)

• 3:00 - 6:00 pm Suturing & Wound Techniques (Gordon)

FEATURING BOARD REVIEW COURSE This program by John Bielinski, Jr. PA-C is an 8-hour, “smart study” approach to help give you the confidence and knowledge .you need to pass your certification exam. You’ll learn how to use a technique called “selective negligence” to focus on high yield topics when studying for the PANCE/PANRE. We utilize the technique by diving into the top 4 topics of the boards which make up 48% of the exam content (as provided by the NCCPA). The breakdown is as follows: Cardiology – 16%, Pulmonary – 12%, Gastrointestinal – 10%, Musculoskeletal – 10%. You’ll learn how to conquer these board review topics by implementing our “active engagement learning” system!

ACLS This course is a review for those with a current ACLS course card. This workshop will cover the skills and didactic information necessary to treat a cardiac arrest patient. Participants will review various clinical applications.

CRASH COURSE IN CLINICAL SKILLS Learn new clinical skills with an explanation demonstration workshop. Literally from head to toe, this workshop will cover a multitude of skills necessary for treating conditions encountered in the acute care setting. Skills such as fish hook removal, ring removal, body piercing/jewelry removal, abscess/felon/paronychia drainage, central line placement, chest tube placement, lumbar puncture, and various nerve blocks will be covered in lecture. Equipment will be available to have hands-on practice of other skills (should time allow) but emphasis will be given to the skills most often requested in the past. Individual instruction will be provided and everyone will have the opportunity to practice on life-like models. Pearls and techniques of various clinical skills will be discussed.

JOINT INJECTIONS Many mid-level practitioners have never been taught basic joint injection and aspiration techniques. Although basic musculoskeletal anatomy has been taught, hands-on application of the anatomy in aspirating and injecting joints has been limited with few opportunities to demonstrate hands-on skills. At the conclusion participants will feel confident with their skills in aspiration and joint injections.

SLIT LAMP At the conclusion of this workshop, the participants will be able to understand the basic eye examination, and review some common pathology and common findings in the emergency setting. Each attendee will be given individual slit lamp examination training.

SUTURING & WOUND TECHNIQUES At the conclusion of this workshop, the participant will be able to: Evaluate wounds/lacerations/conditions presented in the patient, prescribe appropriate treatment, procedure and or medications, provide patient education appropriate for the individual patient and condition and arrange follow up as needed. These techniques will be practiced in class. Dermabond will be discussed and demonstrated.

CLOSING SESSION “The PA-C from A-Z: News You Can Use” Need to know what to do to maintain your NCCPA certification? Then this session is a MUST for you! We will review the enhancements to the certification maintenance process, including CME requirements and the latest on the potential changes to PANRE that are under consideration. You’ll also have a chance to learn the latest on the CAQ program and ways you can get involved to show you are proud to be a PA-C!
