“The Next Step Program at Camp Broadway has truly provided my daughter with opportunities and experience that we never imagined. The entire staff at Camp Broadway has encouraged Emily to continue pursuing her passion, whatever that may be in the huge world of performing arts. It isn’t possible to thank them enough for the encouragement and support that they give to each and every student. We will return again next year and CANNOT wait. This Next Step Program truly was Emily’s next step!”

Why is a summer program worth it for me?

Resume Building: Attending a summer intensive, workshop, or festival shows your dedication to your art form and your willingness to seek out professional training.

Networking: Whether you are an emerging artist or well-established professional, making connections with peers in your industry should become an ingrained habit for you and one that can be easily practiced at summer programs.

Continued Education: Even the masters in music, theatre, dance, and art work every day to continue their learning, whether it’s in their home studio, under the direction of a producer, or at the ballet barre. Summer programs offer artists continued training in new environments, with different teachers and coaches, surrounded by diverse groups of peers. These can be contrasting experiences from your everyday practice sessions and invaluable to growing as an artist.

Making the difficult decision to attend

a summer program

The decision to attend a summer program can often be a tough one. It may mean giving up a summer job or taking time off of work, tapping into your savings budget, forgoing your family vacation and time for relaxation, trading one educational experience for another, and much more. We want this decision to be as easy and painless as possible, so we’ve tried to answer some of the big questions you may be asking yourself!

““Not many programs have the capability to completely transform you as a person and artist, but TPAP does exactly that and much more.”

“Katey MillerPace University, New York, New York

“The Performing Arts Project is an immensely magical place-- one where I was accepted for everything that I am and everything I am not, one where I found 100 new people to call family.”

How will I pay for my summer program?

Investing in your education as an artist is important but also sometimes hard to swallow. Here are some ways to help justify and offset the costs of attending:

Look for scholarships offered by these programs and be sure to apply, even if you are hesitant that you will qualify.

Apply for grants that help to fund professional development for artists.

Start saving now for your program. Many banks allow you to earmark money and set up a saving schedule for specific goals.

Set up a fundraiser show and use the money from tickets to help pay for your summer program.

Keep a notebook and/or recorder with you. You’ll be surprised how much you forget when you return home.

Take time for yourself each day. Reflect and reju-venate.
