2017 State Leadership Conference

Dakota Community Technical College

February 23- 25, 2017

WHO MAY ATTEND

Advisors and students who are paid State and National members of their respective chapters are eligible to participate in the 2017 State Leadership Conference.

CONFERENCE REGISTRATION

The registration fee for the State Leadership Conference is $95.00 per person and includes: conference and competitive event materials, shuttle service, speaker fees, judges’ expenses, awards, and the Awards Banquet. Advisors—complete the attached registration forms, save, and email to Deb Schwager at [email protected] The registration form and fee is due on or before February 3, 2017. Chapters will be invoiced for their registration. Checks should be made payable to MN BPA College Division.

COMPETITIVE EVENTS ON-LINE REGISTRATION

The Website address for online registration is: https://mnbpareg.paulnet.net. Advisors will be emailed a username and password to use when registering students by December 10, 2016. Competitive Events registration is due February 3, 2017 (with the exception of new second semester students.)

STATE ONLY COMPETITIVE EVENTS GUIDELINES

Also register students for the State Only Competitive Events and State Only Special Awards on-line at https://mnbpareg.paulnet.net. A copy of the State Only Events Guide is attached.

COMPETITIVE EVENTS GUIDELINES

All individuals must be members of the Minnesota and National Association to be eligible to participant in the Competitive Events program at the State Leadership Conference. Each student may enter the following number of contests for our State Contest—please note that National Guidelines are different:

Unlimited number of events (as their schedule allows). Individuals must schedule their time for the number of events they register for—no arrangements will be made for students with conflicts. All conflicts must be worked out prior to registration.

Unlimited number of Open Contests and State-Only Events.

SECOND SEMESTER STUDENT REGISTRATIONS

Advisors may register new students registering for second semester classes through February 10, 2017. Be sure to register and pay state and national dues for them on-line with the National Office before registering them for the Conference.

OPEN EVENTS

Students will take the Open Events at their college prior to the Conference through D2L. Dakota County Technical College will be administering the tests the week of February 5 to February 10, 2017. Registration information will be sent to all advisors in January along with the dates and times these tests will be offered.

HOTEL REGISTRATION

The following Hotel will be used for the SLC Conference: GrandStay Hotel & Conference 7083 153rd St. W Apple Valley, MN 55124 (952)953-6111 Fax (952)953-4160 The rate, including taxes, is $104.52 per night per room. This is for a 1 Bedroom Suite/or Deluxe rooms. See enclosed Hotel reservation form for all of room summaries and rates. These rooms will host 4 people.

HOTEL CHECK-IN PROCEDURE

The check-in procedure will be as follows: 1) Upon arrival at the hotel, one advisor from each delegation should pick up the room keys for the

entire delegation from the hotel registration desk on the main floor. The keys for the entire delegation will be packaged together. (Rooms are not guaranteed until 3 p.m.) Please instruct your students that only advisors will be allowed to register the delegation, unless you have made special arrangements with the hotel.

2) The hotel will assign the rooms as the reservation forms are received. Early submission of forms is advised.

3) If there are cancellations after you have submitted the reservation, it will be necessary to notify the hotel. This request is necessary to insure that your chapter is not charged for unused sleeping rooms,

4) The hotel requests that you notify them of all cancellations and/or substitutions and additions to your rooming list. Do this in ALL cases, even if you must call the day you depart for the hotel. This will greatly simplify the registration process.

HOTEL CHECK-OUT PROCEDURE

Check out is 12 noon. Pay for all incidentals before departure.

CANCELLATION AND SUBSTITUTION POLICY

You may cancel or substitute students listed on your original registration form until February 10, 2017. Please email your changes to the Executive Director. No refunds will be given after that date.

CODE OF CONDUCT

All conference participants are to consider this a professional conference and are expected to abide by the Association’s Code of Conduct, which is included on Page 14 in the Forms Section of this packet. Please review this form with your students and have each student sign a form. Keep the signed forms on file with your other registration materials.

CHAPERONE CRITERIA

The required chaperone ratio will be one advisor per chapter. A ratio of one advisor per 10 students is highly recommended. All chaperones are required to pay registration fees and to assist in the running of a competitive event as needed.

CONFERENCE SHUTTLE INFORMATION

Continuous shuttle service between the GrandStay and Dakota County Technical College with be with the hotel Shuttle and Grayline Transportation

Friday, February 24, 2017: 7:00 a.m. – 6:00 p.m. Saturday, February 25, 2017: 7:00 a.m. – 1:00 p.m.

Plan to arrive and catch the shuttle at least one hour before your scheduled event. Depending on traffic will take at least 15 minutes to the college.

MN BPA College Division will be piloting one event this year: ICD-10-CM Diagnostic Coding-Pilot. Guidelines for this, and all other events offered, are found in the WSAP Guidelines.

Carry-in and set-up of equipment must be done solely by the contestant(s), and must take place within the time allotted for orientation/warm-up.

CONFERENCE ATTIRE

Students are expected to dress in business attire for the Opening Session, Business Meeting, Awards Session and all competitions.

Dress Code Members not dressed in required attire will not be able to participate in any session or any competitive event. Members not adhering to the Professional Dress Code will not be allowed on stage.

The Business Service Award recognizes those individuals from industry who have been instrumental in promoting or serving the association at the local or state level.

college accounting. Contestant may not enter 105 College Accounting and 115 Advanced College Accounting in the same year. This

200 Fundamental Word Processing

Limited to post-secondary students who have completed one semester (or less) of keyboarding and/or word processing and are not

enrolled in the second semester. Fundamental Word Processing

This event may not be repeated or entered by a student who has previously competed in Fundamental Word Processing, Intermediate

Word Processing or Advanced Word processing.

Students may compete in only one of the following events each year: Fundamental Word Processing, Intermediate Word Processing or

205 Intermediate Word Processing

This event may not be repeated or entered by a student who has previously competed in Advanced Word Processing. Students may

Students may compete in only one of the following events each year: Fundamental Word Processing, , Intermediate Word Processing

A student who has previously competed in Advanced Office Systems & Procedures may not enter this event. Students may not

Business Students Travel to Rosemount, MN to Participate in the Business Professionals of America College Division Spring Leadership Conference

Students from (college) attended the Business Professionals of America (BPA) 2017 Spring Leadership

Conference, in Rosemount, MN, February 23- 25, 2017. (College) chapter members, (name students) joined

over 130 other conference delegates from across the state to participate in general sessions and competitive

events. The students were accompanied by their advisor(s), (insert names.)

The culmination of the conference was the awards session. Students placing in the top five of individual

events or in the top two of team events will be eligible to attend the National Leadership Conference in

Orlando Florida May 10-14, 2017.

Business Professionals of America is a national organization for high school, college, and middle school

students preparing for careers in business and information technology. The organization’s activities and

programs complement classroom instruction by giving students practical experience through application of

the skills learned at school. Business Professionals of America acts as a cohesive agent in the nation-wide

networking of education and business and industry. BPA is contributing to the preparation of a world-class

workforce through the advancement of leadership, citizenship, academic, and technological skills.

CODE OF CONDUCT

*Advisors are to keep a signed Code of Conduct on file with them while in attendance at the

Minnesota Business Professionals of America State Leadership Conference.

The following Code of Ethics shall be in effect at all statewide conferences or activities.

A. The term “delegate” shall mean any member attending the conference. B. Delegate shall abide by all conference rules. C. Delegates shall keep their advisors informed of their activities and whereabouts at all times. D. Delegates shall stay at the approved hotels during the conference. E. Delegates not staying at approved hotels shall receive approval from the state association to

commute or to stay at another location. F. Delegates shall not use their own vehicle unless such use has prior approval by their respective

school. G. Delegate should not be seen in public places which would bring reproach to the organization or to

themselves. H. Delegates shall respect and abide by the authority delegated to the Executive Council, presiding

officers, committee chairperson, and any advisor or authorized representative of the aforementioned.

I. Delegates shall attend all general sessions and activities assigned unless engaged in some specific assignment taking place at the same time.

J. Name badges must be worn at all sessions, contests or conference events for admittance. K. Delegates shall wear acceptable office attire to all program activities unless specified in the

program. L. The association will not, under any circumstances, approve or condone the use or serving of

alcoholic beverages at any function of the conference where students are involved, from the first day of the conference until its conclusion.

M. The association will not, under any circumstances approve or condone the use or possession of illegal drugs, in any form, by anyone at the conference.

N. Delegates violating or ignoring any of the above rules will be subject to dismissal and/or disqualification.
