2017 MERCER AFRICA SOLUTIONS Dear Mercer client At the start of the year, the Mercer team wants to give you a quick overview of our plans for 2017, it will help you understand our key offerings. We will also continue to communicate with you through our quarterly newsletter and country specific emails. We have a great cross industry representation across more than 40 African markets. We also expanded the WEC survey to South Sudan in 2016. In anticipation of the 2017 cycle we have aligned all our global TRS prices, this provides for a very competitive pricing arrangement for our clients. More about this in the launch meetings. In 2017 all participants will have access to Mercer’s online platform to access, customise and refine the survey data according to each participant’s needs. Mercer has designed a Top Executive Remuneration Survey for Africa to help our clients manage this critical niche job market. Already part of our South Africa offering, we are launching this exclusive survey in Ghana, Kenya, Nigeria and Tanzania during 2017. The survey is aimed at medium and large organisations employing local nationals in executive and senior management positions.

It is grade-based with Executive Categories clustered by Mercer’s International Position Evaluation (IPE) Job Evaluation System Position Classes. Each Executive Category is also reported by job function.

Mercer will this year be running its second cycle of the Mercer Africa Employee Engagement Survey, some points of interest regarding the 2016 cycle - the survey was launched in 7 countries, 18 Companies registered to participate, an average of 7000 participants completed the survey, the survey was available in 5 languages and market benchmarks were produced in 2 markets.

From 2017, the survey will be available in all Africa markets that Mercer operates, and companies will not be tied to a specific timeline per country, interested companies can participate at any time. In addition to local market benchmarks, overall Africa benchmarks will also be available.

In addition to our current suite of Compensation and Remuneration workshops, Mercer will be launching a range of face to face workshops targeted at skills building of HR professionals in 2017. Workshops will be available per region (West Africa, East Africa etc.), amongst others, the list of workshops will include Talent Management, Change Management, HR Business Partnering etc. In house workshops can also be arranged at request. We also have a full suite of e-learning modules for HR professionals.

Our HR Consulting business continues to grow from strength to strength, we are currently engaged in a number of large scale projects, including, but not limited to Performance Management re-design, Change Management, Leadership Development etc. One of our most popular projects continue to be the establishment of a grading structure for organisations.

Mercer’s Africa Assignment Policies & Practices survey has been published at the end of 2016. A total of 76 multinational organisations employing a total of 3 464 assignees/expatriates across 49 African countries, have participated. Survey result covers all aspects of assignment/expatriation management in Africa and is a handy guide to assist you in determining a robust approach to manage assignees effectively. We are also excited about our ”Fundamentals of Assignment/Expatriate Management” training course. During 2017 this two days course, which has been accredited by the South African Reward Association (SARA), will be presented in certain key African markets. We also provide Cost and Quality of living reports and data for almost all major cities in Africa, as well as globally.
