Sears struck out a career-high 20 baers at home against VMI in a two-hier on Friday. • Sears performance es him for the program record for strikeouts in a game and is ed for second all-me in the SoCon. 20 strikeouts is also the highest in a single game this season in Division I. • Sears enters the week leading Division I in total strikeouts (63). He also ranks ninth in Division I in strikeouts per nine innings (13.39) and is ed for 20th in strikeout-to-walk rao (9.00). He leads the SoCon in total strikeouts, ERA (1.70) and baers struck out looking (25). • Along with his 19 strikeout performance last year at VMI, Sears now has two of the top-six strikeout totals in SoCon history. • Sears was also selected as one of Collegiate Baseball’s Naonal Players of the Week, Friday’s Pitcher of the Week by D1Baseball.com and is featured in USA Baseball’s Golden Spikes Award Gold Standard Performance of the Week poll. • The Citadel ranks 5th in Division I and first in the SoCon with 10.6 strikeouts per nine innings. • The Citadel pitching staff struck out 18 baers on Wednesday at Georgia Southern. Zach Taglieri pitched well in his first career start, striking out eight Eagle hiers over 3.2 innings. • Ouielder Clay Marn enters the week with a 14-game on-base streak. He ranks fourth in Division I and leads the SoCon with 26 walks and the team with a .444 on-base percentage. • Will Pillsbury earned his first career win on Sunday vs VMI in a 4-2 victory. The freshman struck out five baers in 5.1 innings of work, allowing just two runs. • The Citadel offense exploded for a record 34 runs on Tuesday, Feb. 14 against Winthrop. The Bulldogs also set records for hits (34), RBIs (31), margin of victory (26) and at-bats (56).

Fred Jordan is in his 26th season as the head coach of his alma mater’s baseball program with a record of 815-673, making him the winningest coach in Southern Conference history.

Jordanhasinstilledtheidealsofbelief,faithandtrustintoTheCitadelbaseballprogram,andplayers are known for playing “The Citadel Way” – Long, Hard and Fast. The Citadel baseball programhasbeenrecognizedforitstenaciouspaceofplayandtremendousdisciplinethatJordansetsforthintheeverydayrigorsofpracticeandthroughouttheseason.

Over the past 23 seasons, The Citadel has averaged more than 33 wins a season including 43in2010,justthreeshyoftheschoolrecord.OnMarch31,2010,theBulldogsblankedCharleston Southern 5-0 to give Jordan his 642nd career win and move him past Chal Port as the winningest coach in school history.

A 1979 graduate of The Citadel, Jordan has led the Bulldogs to seven SoCon tournament championships and berths in the NCAA Regionals (1994-95, 1998-99, 2001, 2004 and 2010) whiletheteamhasalsocapturedfiveregularseasonconferencecrowns.TheCitadelhasanincrediblemarkof60-29(.674)intheSoContournamentandwonthetitlesixtimeswithoutsufferingaloss.

The Citadel has won a game in four of its seven appearances in the NCAA tournament under Jordan,mostrecentlya7-2victoryoverVirginiaTechintheopeningroundofthe2010regional in Columbia, S.C.

At the conclusion of the 2010 season, Jordan received the SoCon Coach of the Year Award forthefourthtimeinhiscareerfollowinghisselectionin1995,1999and2002.Inadditionto the 43-win season, the Bulldogs also won 41 games in 1999 and have captured at least 31 victoriesinallbutfivecampaignswithJordanatthehelm.

ThesuccessenjoyedbytheBulldogsunderJordanhasbeenreflectedinthenumberofplayersTheCitadelhassenttoprofessionalbaseball.BeginningwithGettysGlazein1992,atotalof34playershavebeenselectedintheMLBDraft,withDallasMcPherson,currentassistantcoachBrittReamesandChrisMcGuinessreaching“TheShow.”

JordanwasnamedTheCitadel’sheadcoachonJan.14,1992,becomingthefifthmantoholdthatpositionintheprogram’smodern-dayhistory(beginningin1954).Hewasselectedto replace Chal Port, his former college head coach, when the Hall of Famer announced his retirementin1991aftera27-yearrun.

Jordanreceivedhisbachelor’sdegreeinphysicaleducationfromTheCitadelin1979andamaster’sdegreeineducationin1987.HeletteredasapitcherfortheBulldogsfrom1976-79and won an Ace (Pitching) Award and was a member of a SoCon championship squad his senior season.

ACharlestonnativeand1975graduateofGarrettHighSchool,heismarriedtotheformerDebraMattoxofCharleston.Thecouplehasadaughter,Kristen,whograduatedfromClemson in 2004, and a son, Kyle, who played baseball for his father and graduated from The Citadel in 2010.
