2017 SEASON OUTLOOKUrsuline will return a talented group along with a strong incoming class of freshman and transfers for the 2017 season that begins in September.

Junior Chelsea Edwards returns after a strong debut season with the Arrows in 2016. Edwards season was highlighted by a 20th place finish at the G-MAC Championships last October with a time of 24:55.1.

The Arrows will also lean heavily on junior Ashley Pucella along with sophomore Amanda Schwartz both who had strong 2016 campaigns.

A strong recruiting class that features three incoming freshman along with a junior college transfer provide Ursuline with depth heading into 2017.

The Arrows schedule is once again filled with competitve meets with some of the top performers in the Midwest Region.

After opening the season at the Sudeck Invitational, the Arrows will travel to Detroit and Lock Haven in Sep-tember before wrapping up the month with the All-Ohio Championships at Cedarville.

Ursuline will compete at the Lake Erie Storm Invite in Oc-tober before the G-MAC Championships on Octber 21.

HEAD COACH ALARIC BEST

Alaric Best was named head cross country/assistant track and field coach in July of 2015.

During his first season at the helm of the Ursuline program, freshman Ashley Pucella led the way for the Arrows in every meet during 2015. She currently ranks 6th all time in school history in the 6k.

Best came to Pepper Pike from the University of New Haven where he worked with both the men’s and women’s cross country and track and field teams. From 2010 through the end of the 2014-15 academic year, he tutored mid-distance and distance runners at the Division II school located in Connecticut.

Best has coached numerous all-conference and all-region award winners. In 2013-14, New Haven track and field had eight student-athletes earn All-America laurels in a program-record seven different events. The cross country and track squads also succeeded academically, as recognized by the USTFCCCA, the Northeast-10 and the University of New Haven.

Best competed two years for the Chargers in both cross country and track & field, while being named team captain his senior year. Prior to UNH, he spent two seasons at SUNY Delhi and earned his associate’s degree. While at Delhi, he earned All-America honors in track and field while leading the team to a pair of NJCAA Division III National Championships.

He completed a Bachelor of Arts degree in Management of Sports Industries and Business Management at UNH in 2010 and earned a Master’s Degree in Labor Relations at New Haven. Best holds a USTFCCCA Endurance Specialist Certification.

This summer Best earned his Strength and Conditioning certification through USTFCCCA.

Baron enters her second year at Ursuline as an Assistant Coach for both the Cross Country and Track & Field teams.

Prior to Ursuline, she spent a season with Central Michigan University as a Graduate Assistant. While with the Chippewa’s she also coached at Midland-Dow High School where she led eight

student-athletes to the MHSAA Division I State Finals during her first year. Baron competed at Davenport University where she earned NAIA All-American honors in the middle distance events. She was also a National Qualifier in cross country. Along with assisting the cross country team this fall, she will work with the short/long hurdles,

quarter-milers and jumpers.

Personal: Born September 3, 1996 in Independence, Ohio...daughter of Peter and Kay Pucella...has a brother (Adam) and a sister (Amanda)...competed at Indepen-dence High School in both Cross Country & Track..intends to major in Nursing.

2016 Sesason: Finished 27th overall at the Sudeck Invitational last September with a 4K time of 17:42... Ran the 4th fastest 6K time in school history as a freshman at Lock Haven (23:57)... Ran a 28:04 6K time at the G-MAC Championships last October.

Personal: Born January 29, 1995 in Spring Valley New York... daughter of Joan Ed-wards.... has a sister and two brothers... also competes on the track team

2016 Cross Country Season: Finished 7th at the Lock Haven Invitational with a time of 21:05.07... finished in the top 20 at the G-MAC Cross Country Championships with a time of 24:55.1... Competed at NCAA Midwest Regionals last November and finished with a time of 23:42.11... Currently holds the third fastest 6K times in pro-gram history as well as the fastest 4K time. Curren competed at Cuyahoga Community College for the past two seasons before transfering to Ursuline this fall. She will also compete on the Track & Field team.

Last Indoor season, she was a Region 12 Champion at the NJCAA meet in the 5K. During outdoor season, she was the Region 12 Champion in the 10K with a persoal pest time of 43:20.95. Curren also finished 17th in the 5K at the NJCAA Indoor Championships last year. Her personal best 5K time is 20:07.31.

Curren intends to major in Pre-Law at Ursuline.

Personal: Personal: Born October 9, 1997 in Tiffin, Ohio... daughter of Amy and Randy Schwartz, has three brothers; Andy, Chris and Carl... will double major in psychology and social work.

2016 Sesason: Finished 24th overall in her first career meet at the Sudeck Invitational last September with a time of 17:28. She also ran a season-best 6K time at Lock Haven with a time of 25:01.1.

2016 Cross Country Season: Finished 20th at the Sudeck Invitational with a time of 17:19 in her first collegiate meet. Her career-best 6K time came at Lock Haven with a time of 25:10.4. She also finished 42nd at the G-MAC Championships and competed at the Midwest Regionals.

Personal: Applegate, graduated from Bowling Green High School and will major in Business and Marketing this fall While at Bowling Green, she has earned numerous honors in cross country. She was a four-year letter winner in both cross country and track. She finished eighth overall at the Tiffin Carnival in the Division I race. She was also a Regional Qualifier for three seasons and earned All-Conference honors during her career.

sarah guerry freshman fairview park, oh.

Personal: Graduated from Fairview High School... Guerry ran a personal 5k best of 21:59 and placed 69th overall at the OHSAA Division 2 Northeast District Cross Coun-try meet. She was named to the Patriot Athletic Conference All-Conference team and was also an All-Academic student-athlete.

Guerry intends to major in Nursing this fall.

dana zaccardelli freshman independence, oh.

Personal: Zaccardelli graduated from Independence High School... She finished 11th at the OHSAA Division 3 State Cross Country meet in 2016. She finished first at the Chagrin Valley Conference Cross Country Championships last season. Currently she holds the school record in the 800m (2:27.25), 1600m (5:31.66) and 3200m (11:43.61) at Independence. Her personal 5k best in cross country is 19:11.15.

about the g-mac

The Great Midwest Athletic Conference,was approved by the NCAA Division II Membership Committee in February of 2012 as a member conference and earned active status in July of 2013, after completing an educational assessment program in 2012-13. The conference began competition as the 24th active NCAA Division II conference in 2013-14.

The G-MAC features active members from Ohio, Kentucky, Michigan, Tennessee, and West Virginia. Charter members of the G-MAC included Cedarville University, Kentucky Wesleyan College, Trevecca Nazarene University, and Ursuline College.

The G-MAC expanded in 2014-15 with the inclusion of Alderson Broaddus University, Davis & Elkins College, and Ohio Valley University as active DII members. Malone University joined the G-MAC on July 1, 2016 as a full member with the University of Findlay, Hillsdale College, Lake Erie College, Ohio Do-minican University, and Walsh University officially joining on July 1, 2017.

The G-MAC, headquartered in downtown Indianapolis, will sponsor 23 championships in 2017-18 as an active NCAA Division II conference.
