DAY CAMPS

BALTIMORE COUNTY RECREATION AND PARKS The Baltimore County Department of Recreation and Park, Therapeutic Recreation Services in cooperation with local community recreation councils, operates 10 summer day camps that operate for 5 weeks* (unless otherwise noted) for young people with disabilities throughout the county. Nature, crafts, games and field trips are part of the fun. CONTACT: 410-887-5370, Baltimore County Therapeutic Division Website

4 WEEK CAMPS** Camps operate for four weeks** July 3 – 28, Monday thru Friday. Applications are accepted

through Friday, May 26, 2017 or until camp is full, on a first come first serve basis. For camp cost

applications and additional info, call the specific camp directly. Dates are subject to change.

Battle Monument Camp - Open to all students, ages 6-21 with moderate to severe

developmental disabilities; 11-30-3pm. Battle Monument School, 7801 Collingham Drive in

Dundalk. Call The Rosedale Recreational office at 410-887-0503.

Maiden Choice Camp - Open to all students, ages 6-21 with moderate to severe developmental

disabilities: 12pm-3pm; Maiden Choice School, 4901 Shellbourne Road in Arbutus. Call the

Arbutus Recreational office at 410-887-1453

5 WEEK CAMPS Camps operate for five weeks, June 26 - July 28, Monday through Friday 9:00 am – 3:00 pm,

unless otherwise noted. (Doors open at 8:30 am). Applications are accepted through Friday, May

26, 2017 or until camp is full, on a first come, first served basis. For camp costs $225.00 No

scholarship, for applications and additional information, call the specific camp office directly.

Camp Greentree – for young people ages 6-21 with mild to moderate developmental disabilities;

Mars Estates Elementary School, 1500 Homerg Avenue, in Essex. Call the Essex-Stembridge

Camp Honeybee – for young ages 6-21 with mild moderate developmental disabilities and non-

disabled individuals; Cockeysville Middle School, 10401 Greenside Drive, Cockeysville, MD

Camp New Horizons @ Chatsworth - for young people who are entering first grade through fifth

grade and who are in ALS (Adapted Learning Supports) classes; 8:30am-2:30pm; Chatsworth

Performance Arts Camp – for young people with mild developmental disabilities and non-

disabled individuals ages6 and older at the Eastern Regional Performing Arts Center, 7701 Wise

Ridge Camp - for young people ages 6-21 with moderate to severe developmental disabilities;

BALTIMORE CITY RECREATION AND PARKS

For children with/without disabilities (inclusive). Programming includes arts& crafts, games,

swimming, physical education, performing arts, sports, fun-based Ed classes, playground

activities are adapted to the ability levels of the campers.

ESF SUMMER CAMP AT GILMAN

ESF offers Day Camps, Sports Camps and Senior Camp.

Day Camp: Designed for boys and girls ages 4-8 and consists of arts and crafts, swimming, sports,

music, & drama, Project Discovery (science). World Tour (world cultures), martial arts, archery

and fencing. Day Camp also features special guests, theme days and special events.

Sports Camp: Designed for boys and girls ages 6-14 and offers instruction and league games in

soccer, basketball, baseball, street hockey, lacrosse, team handball, football and golf. Swimming

is available daily. Sports camp also features clinics, special guest college coaches and professional

athletes.

Senior Camp: Designed for boys and girls ages 9-15 and aims to broaden the horizons of older

campers. Senior camp offers art, swimming, sports, archery, martial arts, fencing and “True Life”

adventures into the outdoors, drama, digital photography, cooking and rocketry. Senior Camp

also features special guests and a leadership development program.

AGES: 3-15

CAMP NOTRE DAME – A CHILD’S PLACE

Campers have the opportunity to participate in a wide variety of sports activities including:

softball, soccer, tennis and other active games; swimming is also offered twice a day. Camp Notre

Dame also offers music, drama, and arts and crafts also make each day exciting. Boys and girls

are placed into groups of 12 to 15 campers of the same general age and each group is supervised

by a senior counselor, junior counselor and, for younger groups, a counselor in training.

CAMP ATTAWAY

Camp Attaway is a 3 week program for children with emotional and behavioral disorders. The

camp offers a variety of activities designed to ensure safe, therapeutic and fun experience for the

campers, as well as a weekly support and education group for parents. Activities include:

swimming, sports, cooperative games, rock climbing, arts and crafts, nature and drama.

DOWNTOWN SAILING CENTER

Each day is divided between land based and on-the-water instruction. Students participate in fun

basic sailing activities and instruction tailored to their individual needs, navigational scavenger

hunts, arts and crafts, round robin racing, and land-based activities to enhance their sailing

ability. Safety is taught at every level. This camp experience is wheelchair accessible.

AGES: 8 -16

POPULATION: Interview process for interested campers. Process served is non-medically fragile

GREENWELL FOUNDATION CAMP

Camp Greenwell is an outdoor inclusive camp that serves all children with or without disabilities.

Campers will learn to conserve and enjoy our natural resources. Activities include: archery,

kayaking, and visits, hiking and outdoor recreational activities are staples to camp.

DATE: June 19-September 1 (12 weekly sessions) 8:30am-3:30pm (Extended Care offered)

AGES: Open to children who have completed kindergarten, 6-12 (As of June 1, 2017)

POPULATION: Greenwell’s philosophy is to tailor all programs to people individual’s needs

regardless of disability. We provide university accessible and inclusive programs and services for

children with many different physical and cognitive challenges.

HARBOUR MAGIC SUMMER DAY CAMP BALTIMORE

All the fun of summer day camp activities while focusing on teaching and encouraging social

competencies including friendship skills. While focusing on developing age appropriate social and

friendship skills, campers will have a great time creating summer memories with friends that will

last a lifetime.

DATES: Monday thru Friday, July 3- July 31, 2017

1:00-5:00 p.m. (Late pickup fees will apply after 5:00pm)

AGES: 6-12

POPULATION: Children with learning disabilities, high functioning autism, Asperger’s Syndrome,

ADD and ADHD and other learning challenges. Campers must be able to independently manage

personal needs/daily living skills.

FEE: $600 – Includes field trips, swimming and snacks Early Bird Discount $40 – must register by April 30, 2017 to receive. A non-refundable of $165 will be required upon registration.

THE MARY SALKEVER INCLUSIVE SUMMER DAY CAMP

Children with and without disabilities have an opportunity to work at their own individual

computer station programmed for their specific needs, document the day using digital cameras,

camcorders & share in various field trip. Campers will be able to explore their creativity through

painting, drawing & other arts & crafts activities.

DATES: June 26-30 (Session 1) 9:00am-3:00pm, July 31- August 4 (Session 2) 9:00am-3:00pm

sports and more. Camp Hidden Valley is a week-long overnight experience in a beautiful natural

PERFORMING ARTS CAMP

This camp is geared toward the inclusion of individuals with disabilities and those without. The

campers produce a musical show, working on the costumes, the scenery, and make-up. Campers

also perform all the parts in the show. There will be classes in music, dance, acting, set production

also. The camp will end with a spellbinding production.

Social Beginnings is an organization that offers Social Thinking instruction and support during our

summer camp and after-school programs in various locations throughout the states of Maryland

ELKS CAMP BARRETT

Camp Barrett is an ACA accredited traditional children camp operated by the Elks of Delaware,

Maryland and the District of Columbia. The camp is located in the Greenway of Anne Arundel

County and provides a beautiful outdoor environment for youth. Activities are under the

supervision of trained counselors, assuring personal care. Some of the activities include: various

sports, arts and crafts, nature study, and archery. Meals are carefully prepared to be tasty and

nutritious. The camp cannot accommodate special diets.

CAMP HOLIDAY TRAILS

Camp Holiday Trails celebrates the camper, not the illness; we offer and active year-round

program that engages our campers in activities such as: arts and crafts, challenge course acts,

drama, therapeutic horseback riding, swimming, canoeing, wilderness education, sports, and

EASTER SEALS CAMP FAIRLEE

Camp Fairlee was totally rebuilt in 2015 and features all new air conditioned, accessible cabins,

and activity center with gymnasium, new health center, and new dining hall. Overnight,

residential, sessions are typically about 6 days, with some 5 day and 12 day options available.

Activities include canoeing, swimming, horseback riding, wall climbing, zip line, nature trails

outdoor games and sports, fishing ponds, arts/crafts, indoor games and more. Two weeks each

summer just for children with Autism. FT nurses on staff. Specialized diets accommodated.

Camp Fairlee accepts DDA funds and Maryland Autism Waiver. ACA accredited.

CAMP GREENTOP – THE LEAGUE FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES

The League at Camp Greentop is a traditional sleep away summer camp for youth and adults

with disabilities located in Thurmont, MD. Youth Camp offers a structured schedule with

traditional camp activities, while adult camp offers a more camper choice oriented schedule with

the addition of day trips. Day Camp provides a structured daily schedule with the comfort of

sleeping at home. League pioneers is our tent-camping program which focuses on nature

oriented activities. Finally, Travel Camp allows participants to explore local points of interest.

Camp Lee Mar is a 7 week private residential special need camp for children and young adults

with mild to moderate learning and developmental challenges. There is a structured environment

with individual attention and guidance which is emphasized at all times. Activities provided

include traditional camp activities and academics, speech/language therapy, music, art,

swimming, daily living skills, sensory-motor training, and computers. There is also horseback

riding and overnight trips. The cabins are also have air-conditioning.

opportunities for people with developmental disabilities since 1974. Each year, participants enjoy

MELWOOD ACCESS ADVENTURES

Our travel program is designed for individuals with a variety of special needs who are 18 years

and older. Access Adventure sports participants in a 1:4 staff-client radio. Additional support

given with extra fee. Access adventure does not guarantee in room 24 hour supervision. Our

qualified and personable travel hosts are with travelers during most normal waking hours to

Hippo therapy facilitates improvement in balance, coordination, postural awareness, gross motor

development, sensory integration and muscle tone. Patients do not have to be riders to benefit

from this innovative therapy.

SELECTING A CAMP

A summer spent at a day, sleepaway or travel camp should be a productive living and learning

experience. It can be fun, healthy and provide an opportunity to develop new skills and

friendships. Camp experience may have a great impact on a child’s life, so it is important for

parents and caregivers to make a careful decision in choosing a camp. Not every camp meets the

needs and abilities of every child. Since you are the consumer, you have a right to ask any

questions you wish so that you can better understand the camp program.

Some of the questions/suggestions you may want to consider are listed below:

YOU AND YOUR CHILD o What do you want out of your child’s camp experience? o What does your child want out of his/her camp experience? A good time? New friends?

New skills? o Is your child ready for a day camp? o Is your child ready for a sleep away camp? o Has your child spent time away from home overnight at a friends or relatives home?
