• RHPL Mini Branch service expanded its collection to include youth books, thanks to a donation from the Author’s in April Board.

• The Book Peddler participated in several community events including the Hometown Christmas Parade, the Farmers Market, outdoor concert series, and RARA’s Easter Egg Hunt.

• The library participated in the Festival of the Hills for the first time in 2017. The Adult Services Department ran Capture the Flag Nerf Games, and the Book Peddler checked out books.

Volunteers

• The Friends of the Rochester Hills Public Library raised approximately $190,000 in 2017. With their support, the library was able to fund programs for children and adults, printing costs, computer equipment, aquarium maintenance, and the purchase of a new book bike.

• Circulation volunteers for the 2017 year completed 2,700 hours of volunteer time. That’s equivalent to 337 eight-hour-days.

• Volunteers clean all the AV materials, check for missing pieces, and empty the bins on the material handler machine. They help us with MeLCat orders by pulling our items from the shelves, putting labeling on the MeLCat items that are being sent to other libraries, and emptying the bins when Rides delivers our MeLCat items each day.

• Volunteers also help the Friends of the Rochester Library by bringing in large donations when patrons drop them off at the loading dock or even go out with patrons and bring them in from their cars. Several of our special services volunteers clean inside and outside of library items, put the items in alphabetical order, and discard items under the direction of a librarian.

Community Feedback

“I have loved taking my kids to read, play, build, and learn technology here. We love to take walks around the building to the butterfly garden. The best place and great programs for kids and adults.” --Jaime Dobronos
