2017 AMERICAN TROMBONE WORKSHOP

Welcome to the 2017 United States Army Band “Pershing’s Own” American Trombone Workshop. This is the 42nd Trombone Workshop, beginning in 1974 as the Eastern Trombone Workshop and changing names to the American Trombone Workshop in 2014. The workshop continues as an integral event for The U.S. Army Band “Pershing’s Own,” hosting leading soloists, clinicians, and educators, while also showcasing emerging young performers and trombone choirs from all across the country. This year’s headlining artists include bass trombonist Blair Bollinger; tenor trombonists Tom Ashworth, Mark Heltzer, Craig Mulcahy, and Ken Thompkins; and legendary funk trombonist Fred Wesley, who will all be performing with the outstanding ensembles of “Pershing’s Own.”

Among the many ensemble concerts, solo performances, and competitions, you will not want to miss these events: a solo recital with former Vienna Philharmonic trombonist, Jeremy Wilson; concert featuring bass trombonist and musical pioneer, David Taylor with the Washington Trombone Ensemble; and SGM Matt Niess and his son, Zach, performing a tribute jazz recital to J.J. Johnson and Kai Winding.

Be sure to bring your horns to group warm-up sessions Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, and make some time to visit the Fort Myer Community Center to peruse a wide range of instruments, accessories, and sheet music. I hope you enjoy your visit to Brucker Hall and leave with fond memories of great performances, new insights, and lasting friendships.
