LAST TIME OUT FOR THE BOBCATS• The Bobcats improved to 17-8 (10-4 SBC) after defeating the Louisiana Ragin’ Cajuns (13-12,

8-5 SBC) by a score of 56-53 inside the Cajundome on Feb. 15. • Without the services of junior Toshua Leavitt, Brooke Holle stepped up in a big way. The soph-

omore netted a game-high 21 points to lead the Bobcat offense. She connected on 7-of-16 shot attempts, including 5-of-10 tries from behind the 3-point line. Holle also pulled down six rebounds and led the team with a pair of steals. For the first time in her career, Holle played the full 40 minutes for Texas State.

• Taeler Deer tallied 15 points, six rebounds and five assists for the Bobcats. Her third assist of the game moved her into the top spot on the all-time Texas State list for single-season assists with 162 during her senior campaign.

TRACKING DEER• Senior guard Taeler Deer has her name etched all over the Texas State women’s basketball

record books, earning a spot on five separate lists, not to mention being one of just three Bobcat women to ever amass more than 1,000 career points and 300 career assists.

• Deer became the 16th player in program history, and just the fifth player under head coach Zenarae Antoine to eclipse the 1,000-point milestone, joining: Erin Peoples, Ayriel Anderson, Ashley Azeh and Diamond Ford following a 29-point performance against Appalachian State on Dec. 29, 2017.

• Deer ranks no. 10 in program history in career points, netting 1,227 points. She is also eighth on the all-time made 3-point list with 118 made triples during her four seasons in the maroon and gold.

• She ranks second in program history, dishing out 380 assists throughout her career. She trails only Shelley Borton, who notched 595 assists from 1986-90, on the career list. The 164 helpers she has handed out this season is the Texas State women’s basketball single-season record, topping the mark set by Borton (161) during the 1989-90 campaign. Finally, Deer sits in the eighth spot for career steals with 166.

FRONTCOURT PRODUCTION• Senior forward Ericka May leads the Bobcats in rebounding, pulling down 8.1 misses per con-

test. She ranks fourth in the Sun Belt Conference in total rebounds and second in defensive rebounds at 5.8 per game.

• May has collected 40 rebounds in the last four Bobcat basketball games, including 34 on the defensive end of the floor. In total, the senior has pulled down double-figure rebounds in nine contests this season.

• Ti’Aira Pitts is fourth in scoring for the Bobcats, netting 8.4 points per contest and tied for third with 108 rebounds this season. The senior forward also leads the team with 25 blocks this year.

LEAVITT FOR THREE• Texas State drilled a school-record 16-of-28 attempts in the win over Sam Houston State on

Dec. 17. In total, the Bobcats have made 10+ 3-point field goals in 12 games this season.• After netting five 3-pointers in the win over ULM on Jan. 18, Toshua Leavitt found herself at the

top of the school record books in three different categories.• The first record she toppled was 3-point field goals made in a single game. She connected on

10 3-point field goals in the loss to Coastal Carolina and again in the win over Georgia State. Her record setting day also matched Mari Sanchez’s Sun Belt Conference record, who made 10 3-pointers on Feb. 23, 2003. She is the only NCAA women’s basketball player to make at least 10 3-point attempts in multiple games this season.

• Her 3-pointer to open the game against ULM moved her ahead of Sarah Wagner (1996-2000) for most made 3-pointers in a career. As a junior, Leavitt has buried 230 career 3-pointers, the only TXST player on the men’s or women’s side to make at least 200 triples as a Bobcat.

• Leavitt has drilled 113 shots from deep this season. Her 4.71 made triples per contest leads the NCAA and is on pace to match the NCAA record set by Alabama State’s Lisa McMullen during the 1990-91 campaign.

• The 113 made 3-pointers established a new program record, besting Joyce Ekworomadu’s mark of 82 triples during the 2007-08 season. She now sits two back from the Sun Belt record of 115 made 3-points set by Kortni Jones (Middle Tennessee) during the 2011-12 season.

2017-18 TEXAS STATE WOMEN’S BASKETBALL GAME NOTES

LAST TIME OUT

BOBCATS RALLY LATE TO BEAT LOUISIANA, 56-53(Feb. 15, 2018)

LAFAYETTE, La. – The Texas State women’s basketball team (17-8, 10-4 SBC) made some clutch plays at the end of the game, defeating Louisiana (13-12, 8-5 SBC), 56-53, inside the Cajundome on Thursday evening. The win gives the Bobcats 17 wins on the season, matching the team’s win total from a season ago.

“These kids earned this win tonight,” head coach Zenarae Antoine said. “We battled through some adversity, these kids battled all night to come away with a big win. I am so proud of this team.”

The Bobcats pounced on the Ragin’ Cajuns from the opening tip, jumping out to an early 10-0 lead. The run covered 2:06 on the game clock and forced Louisiana into an early timeout. LA responded, rat-tling off its own 11-0 run to take a one-point lead on the Bobcats. The game turned into a slugfest, both offenses bogged down for the remaining 13 minutes of the first half. The Cajuns carried a five-point lead, 28-23, into the halftime break.

Much like the first half, the Bobcats charged out to a 14-4 extended run to regain the lead at 37-32. The spurt was fueled by the Holle twins as Brooke Holle scored four points and Bailey Holle knocked down a 3-pointer, swinging the momentum into the favor of the road team. Texas State was able to maintain the five-point lead into the final frame of play, entering the fourth quarter up 45-40.

After a Bobcat free throw, Louisiana mounted another 11-0 run to climb back into the lead at 51-46 with 4:49 to play. The home team would score just one more bucket for the remainder of the contest. Once again, Brooke Holle stepped up for the Bobcat offense, drilling a pair of 3-pointers to pull TXST back into the lead at 54-51 with 2:38 to play.

Both teams stalled on the offensive end again as neither team scored a point for the next two minutes of action. Nekia Jones of LA broke the scoring drought with an offensive rebound and put back with 35 seconds remaining to bring the home team within a point.

Louisiana was forced to foul and put Taeler Deer on the line with 20 seconds left. The senior stepped to the line and calmly sank a pair of free throws. LA took over the possession and missed a clean look from deep with nine seconds remaining. The Cajuns lucked into an offen-sive rebound but were unsuccessful in another jump shot attempt. LA had one more chance, after a tap-back offensive rebound fell into the lap of Troi Swain. Her 3-point attempt at the buzzer bounced off the heal of the rim, securing the win for Texas State.

Holle led the Bobcats in scoring, posting a game-high 21 points. The sophomore has posted three 20-point games this season. She converted 7-of-16 shot attempts, including 5-of-10 from beyond the 3-point line. Holle chipped in six rebounds and a pair of steals.

Deer added to her Bobcat legacy, breaking the Texas State single-sea-son assist record. Her third helper of the game gave her 162 assists this season, topping the mark set by Shelly Borton during the 1989-90 campaign. The Houston native tallied 17 points and six rebounds in the win.

The Bobcats will close out this three-game conference road trip on Saturday with a rematch with the ULM Warkhawks, tip is slated for noon at the Fant-Ewing Coliseum on Saturday. The Bobcats defeated the Warhawks 86-52 at Strahan Coliseum back on Jan. 18.
