Executive Summary: Awarded $3,000 in student-raised grant funding through the Pay It Forward: Student Philanthropy Initiative to The Boys & Girls Club of Youngstown for a Camp Fitch experience for members. Students traveled to The Akron Zoo and The Mattress Factory Museum (Pittsburgh, PA) and served as consultants in two Regional Case Study Events. Students in BUS 3720 (Nonprofit Leadership) worked as consultants for the Team Case Study Paper/Presentation with The Rescue Mission of the Mahoning Valley in Fall 2017 and Youngstown CityScape in Spring 2018. Planned a successful WCBA Dare to Care Day for over 50 students. Student Success Stories in Philadelphia, Washington D.C., Cleveland, Youngstown, and more! WCBADaretoCareDayAftera10-yearhiatus,theWCBAStudentLeadershipCouncil,inconjunctionwiththeCenterforNonprofitLeadership,planneda“DaretoCareDay”forstudents.Over50studentsparticipatedinthisuniquedayofservice.Studentsnotonlyservedourcommunityat6localnonprofitorganizations(AmericanRedCross,AnimalWelfareLeague,Boys&GirlsClubofYoungstown,JuniorAchievementofMahoningValley,Inc.,TheRichCenterforAutism,andtheYoungstownPlayhouse),butlearnedaboutcareeropportunitiesinthenonprofitsector.

PayItForward:StudentPhilanthropyInitiativeYoungstownStateUniversitystudentsintheStudentNonprofitLeadershipOrganizationgainedhands-onexperienceinphilanthropythisspringthroughthePayItForward:StudentPhilanthropyInitiativebyawarding$3,000infundingtoTheBoys&GirlsClubofYoungstownforaSummerCampFitchExperienceformembers.

TheBoys&GirlsClubofYoungstown(BGCY),incollaborationwiththeYMCAofYoungstown,willusethesefundstosendapproximately30deservingmemberstospend3daysand2nightsatCampFitchonthebeautifulshoresofLakeErieinPennsylvania.TheBGCY10-weeksummerprogrambeginsinJuneandendsinAugust.Thistripwilloccurattheconclusionofsummerandpriortothestartofschool.TheClub’sstaffwillevaluatethebehaviorandattendanceofthemembersage10+throughouttheentiresummerprogramtodeterminewhichmembersaremostdeservingofthisexposuretrip.

ThePayItForwardInitiativehelpsstudentslearnhowtobeengagedcitizensandtounderstandtheimportantrolephilanthropyplaysinthehealthofourlocalcommunities.TheinitiativeaddressescriticaleconomicneedsintheMahoningValleywhileprovidinganopportunityforstudentstoexperiencethegrantprocessofsoliciting,reviewing,interviewing,andawardingfunding.

Throughademocraticprocess,thestudentsreviewedapplicationsfromnearly30localnonprofitorganizationsthatmetspecificguidelinesrelatedtoaddiction,animalwelfare,neighborhoodrevitalization,andyoutheducation.

This initiative began with seed money from Ohio Campus Compact in 2010, and the students have sustained this initiative through their own fundraising efforts every year since then. In total, participating students have awarded nearly $50,000 to local nonprofit organizations through this initiative.

KristenDaygraduatedinMay2018earningaB.S.B.AwithamajorinAdvertising/PublicRelationsandminorsinInternationalBusinessandNonprofitLeadershipfromtheWilliamsonCollegeofBusinessAdministration.Duringhersenioryear,KristeninternedatPlayhouseSquareinCleveland,whichthenturnedintoafull-timepositionasMarketingCoordinator.Withinthisrole,KristenworkswiththetouringBroadwayshowsonadvertisingcampaignsandpressopportunities.Sheattributesthissuccesstohermarketinginternshipduringthesummer2017asoneoftheRaymondJohnWeanFoundation’sSummerHonorsInternsatNortheastOhioAdoptionServices(NOAS).Additionally,shewasinvolvedintheStudentNonprofitLeadershipOrganization(SNLO)for2.5years,servingasSecretaryandthenasVicePresident.

AmandaIrwingraduatedinDecember2017earningaB.S.B.A.withamajorinMarketingManagementandaminorinNonprofitLeadership.Amandaheldtwointernshippositions:onewithHomesforKidsInc./ChildandFamilySolutionsastheMarketing&DevelopmentInterninthesummerof2016andasecondwiththeMahoningCountyLandBank.Thispositionstartedinthesummerof2017throughtheNonprofitLeadershipSummerHonorsInternshipProgram,fundedbyTheRaymondJohnWeanFoundation,andcontinuedthroughFall2017.Upongraduation,AmandalandedapositionastheAssistantDirectorofthe

AnnualFundintheOfficeofInstitutionalAdvancementatManorCollegeintheGreaterPhiladelphiaArea.Herroleconsistsofplanningandexecutingfundraisingcampaignsfortheinstitution'sannualfund,donorstewardshipefforts,andconstituentinformationanddatamanagement.
