Introduction on UHMWPE navigation buoy UHMW-PE Navigation Buoy is kind of signal for vessel

guiding, positioning, obstacles marking and warning marking. The buoy consists of light stand, floating body and tail pipe. The light stand is used for the signal light, which will provide light signal for vessels, the floating body will provide sufficient buoyancy for the buoy, and the tail pipe with ballast is to guarantee the stability of the buoy.

The UHMW-PE navigation buoys are impact resistant, maintenance free, with longer service life.

Minimum Maintenance Costs:

1. The color of the float is the material's own color, it will not need to paint. Shanghai Quality Supervison and Inspection Institute tested the UHMWPE material by aging tests according China nationla standard, there is no aging and fading, which will minimize the costs for painting.

2. The UHMWPE plate with strong non-adhesion property, the floats and tail pipes will be not easy to adhere water growth, minimize the costs for the cleaning.

3. With good collision resistance, the UHMWPE buoys are not easy to be damaged by ships, which minimize the costs for buoys repairment and replacement.

Collison Resistance: 1. With good resilience and hardness, the buoy hull could absorb the collisi

on energy and return to the original shape when impacted 2. With light weight, the buoy has small inertia, and it could shift qucikly to

dissolve the collision strength to avoid the damaging. 3. With good toughness, the buoy is stretch resistant, and hard to be tear(U

HMWPE break elongation is 453.7%, while steel material is 26%), which could maximumly absorb the collision energy.

4. There are strong steel skeleton supported, and high density waterproof polyurethane foam is filled inside the float, which will help the buoy to bounce back without distortion when impacted.

5. The safety guard ring for lantern is made by UHMWPE sheet, and supported by the steel frames, could absorb the collision energy and improve the protection to lantern and solar panels.

Longer Service Life: 1. With good chemical stability, the UHMWPE material has go

od corrosion resistance, and it will not decompose for decades in the sea.

2. Anti-aging additives are added within the UHMWPE material, it will not be aging for decades and the mechanical properties will not change.

3. The lantern stand is treated by phosphating, and marine grade paints will be painted, so the service life of lantern stand will be much longer.

4. The mooring eyes are connected with internal steel frame, so its loading capacity is largely increased.

UHMWPE Navigation Buoy Collision Test Succeed in China

CCS(China Classification Society) inspected the quality of the UHMWPE navigation buoy by the collision test at the Qilita Sea in Ningbo, China on Sep 4, 2014.

The test was organized by CCS, and Ningbo Navigation Buoy Bureau arranged its coast guard ship No. 1648( 500 tons) to fulfill the tests by two times. During the first test, the ship speed is 9 knots, hit from the side of the ship’s bow. There is slight deformation about 20*15 square centimeters at the buoy surface, but it becomes to be its original shape after half an hour. During the second test, the ship speed is 4.8 knots, hit from the front of the ship’s bow, the UHMWPE buoy was pressed into water by the ship’s bow and floated on the water from the ship’s stern. There is a little abrasion on the super structure and tail pipes due to the propeller collision. The navigation buoy float, super structure, lantern and top mark are in good condition. There is about 10*15 square centimeters area at the ship’s bow paint off, but no damages with the ship.

This collision test proofed that the UHMWPE navigation buoy has benefit of collision resistance and meanwhile it can protect the ship from damaging.
