Happy Valentines Day!
Stock Show Season has begun! We hope you are
excited because we are excited to see your success this
year!
There are many contests and opportunities within 4-H
and registrations/workshops are happening soon. If you
have any questions please let us know.

Development.
Hello everyone! My name is Geri Kline and
I will be in Gonzales for about a year
learning everything that extension has to
offer. I graduated from Tarleton State
University in December 2015 with my
masters in Agriculture and Consumer
Resources. I’m very excited to get to learn
from Mr. Dwight and Ms. Janie. If you have
any questions or I can help you with
anything please stop by our office or my

RESOURCES
Clover Kids
The 4-H program serves youth from 3rd
grade (minimum age 8) through 12th
grade (minimum age 18). As an affiliated
group, youth enrolled as 4-H Clover Kids
have activities and programs suitable for
their age group. Clover Kids are not
eligible to participate in activities,
recognition programs and competitive
events reserved for older youth.
Competitive events and competitive
judging are inappropriate for Clover Kids.
Clover Kids may have animal projects;
however, it is recommended animal
projects should not exceed a rabbit in size.
Most standard 4-H accident insurance
normally is not available for youth under 5
years of age.
Gonzales County 4-H owns a liquid
nitrogen tank to store bull semen for any 4-
H member to use for their beef projects.
This tank is available for check-out at the
AgriLife Extension Office
Rural Youth Loans… the Farm Service
Agency has a program that provides loans
to youth for purchasing income producing
livestock to improve and/or begin their
operation. Information on this program is
available at the Gonzales FSA Office, 830-
672-7511
Take Pictures-and tell us what is going on
at your club meetings or other 4-H
activities. Let’s promote 4-H in our
community and show Gonzales what 4-H is

LIVESTOCK PROJECTS
4-H members who want assistance in
selecting their 4-H livestock projects or
would like further advice on managing
their projects, are encouraged to
communicate with their club managers,
and are also welcome to seek assistance
from your county agent, Dwight Sexton. Mr.
Sexton is available to make project visits
and provide advice on your projects.

AG PRODUCT ID CONTEST
If anyone is interested in the 4-H contest
Agriculture Product Id please email
[email protected]. Ag product id is a
contest where 4-H members correctly
identify products and then answer a
multiple choice question about that
product. It is an invitation entry at State
Roundup.
2016 Texas 4-h Roundup –Share-The Fun
Contest
Entry: Individual or groups (maximum of
nine participants)-Celebrate 4-H,
Choreographed Routines, Dramedy,
Musical/Instrumental, Poetry/Prose,
Solo/Band Performance, and Vocal
There are seven categories, each with a
separate description and score card.

THE DISTRICT 10 4-H ROUNDUP -Will be held on April 30, 2016 in Lockhart
Junior High.
4-H members will have the opportunity to
compete in Educational Presentations, the
Horse Quiz Bowl, Public Speaking and
Share the Fun.
Texas 4-H Roundup Rules and Guidelines
Texas - 4-H Roundup will be held in College
Station, Texas on campus of Texas A&M
University from June 6th to June 9th. More

Texas 4-H Photography Contest and
Texas
4-H/FFA Photography Contest
The Texas 4-H Youth Development Program
is excited to release two photography
contests for the 2015-2016 4-H Year. These
contests are:
2016 Texas 4-H Photography Contest Theme: For 2015-2016 the theme is “4-H,
Ribbons, Awards and Recognition”. This year
the theme will focus still life arrangements of
4-H awards, ribbons and recognition. The
arrangement and positioning of items will be
strongly evaluated as well as the quality of
the photo. Photo should create emotion and
have impact!

Changes to rules for 2016. A statement
related to the fact that all photos must be
the original work of the 4-H member
submitting the photograph. No
photograph can be submitted which has
been taken by other 4-H members, a
family member, or any printed/digital
source. All photos will be scanned through
a reverse image search.
Entry Period: April 1, 2016 to April 15, 2016
through 4-H CONNECT

SUNDOWNERS
January 2016 Sundowners Meeting
Sundowner’s 4-H held their monthly
meeting on Sunday, January 10, 2016.
Members were engaged in a presentation
“Character Counts” led by Mrs. Labuhn
and assisted by Cooper and Coy Labuhn.
Members also discussed many important
dates and the up-coming Gonzales
Livestock Show held March 3-5, 2016. After
the general meeting, club members
gathered together to create care
packages for the first responders in
Gonzales and assembled soup mix bags
for the residents of Country Village Square.
Sundowners Next Meeting….
will be held on February 21 at 4:00 at the
FUMC fellowship hall.
RISING STAR
Kristofer and Kathleen Knesek attended
Texas 4-H Teen Retreat at the Texas 4-H
Conference Center January 9-11.
Workshops included robotic cars, fly fishing,
food challenge, leadership, and share -
the- fun.

The 2016 Houston Livestock Show & Rodeo
Scholarship Applications – Due Feb 8, 2016
Due March 22, 2016
Gonzales County Area Go Texan and the
"Area Go Texan Scholarship" however
there are several types of scholarships that
OUR Gonzales County students can apply
for as well...
Please look at the new SAT guidelines and
minimum test scores that apply to the
different types of applications... The Area
Go Texan requirement is 950 minimum
score with the Math and Verbal scores
only!! Yes, they have changed, only
using two of the scores and they do not
have to come from the same test...
Student's BEST score in each category will
be used...
When students apply, they will "check
boxes" for all of the types that they are
applying for (ex: AGT, Military, Exhibitor) but
the student can only win one scholarship...
Something new... There are 2 scholarships
that allow home schooled students to
apply... Exhibitor & 4-H

San Antonio Stock Show Ambassador
Committee will stop in Gonzales on
February 5th. More information will be
communicated once received.
Important Reminders from County Council
County Council will cover all entry fees for
District 10 and/or State 4-H level contests
hosted by the Texas 4-H staff. Contact
office if this may apply to you.
County Council will cover half of the cost
of camps or retreats attended by a 4-H
member. Camps/retreats eligible are those
hosted by the 4-H Center in Brownwood or
any leadership based camp hosted by
Texas 4-H staff. Members must submit
paperwork and provide receipt of
camp/retreat attended within 45 days of
the event attended. Members will be
notified once paperwork has been
reviewed.

under the financial assistance header.
Something NEW!
Adult Leaders are available to provide
limited financial aid for members who have
attended workshops, camps, or clinics that
enhances his/her 4-H project. Financial aid
is also available for those who have
represented Gonzales County at the
district, state, or national levels in other
events. Financial aid can include travel
expenses. Members must submit
paperwork and provide receipt of
camp/retreat attended within 45 days of
the event attended. Members will be
notified once paperwork has been
reviewed.
