Event Rules

Race Start

All competitors must have a leg rope secured ready for a beach start. Competitors must follow the Event Starters instructions. A hooter will signify the start of the Event.

Race Finish

After rounding the last checkpoint, competitors return to shore in a standing position. Once ashore, competitors must beach their boards and then run through the marked

transition area to the finish line carrying their paddle. All boards must be left at the water’s edge, not be carried through. Each competitor must cross finish line to receive a

finish time and placing. Competitors must remain in the finish area until their place, name and number is recorded by the event timer.

The race will finish no later than 120 minutes from the starting hooter. Any competitors who have not completed the course in the allocated time frame must return to the

finish line or safety area/checkpoint as instructed by water safety.

Board Certification

All boards will be measured and assigned a number. Boards must be 14’ or under stock boards with fixed fins and of a mono-hull design. Board, legrope and paddle will be

provided for competitors in the Naish One Inflatable divisions. There is no board weight restriction, board design is open, foils are not allowed, foot straps are not allowed.

Board Measurement will be conducted at the Beach Marshal tent no later than 1 hour prior to start of the event. Boards will not be measured post the 1 hour board

measurement time specified.

Competition Rash Shirts

All competitors must wear their competition rash shirts at the start, duration and finish of all events. Failure to so at any point will result in disqualification. Competition

rash shirts will provided at the race check-in.

Event Director

The Event Director will be responsible for officiating the Event start and finish of the Event. The Event Director is the head official and has the final say in disqualification

rulings, finishes and event protest filings.

Event Rules …….. continued….

Course

The course (see course diagram for graphic representation) involves a number of separate check points that will be marked on a map provided at the beginning of the

event. The two Elite Divisions will need to find seven (7) checkpoints over a 12-15km distance while the two Community Divisions will need to find four (4) checkpoints over

a 7-10km distance. Competitors must collect a wrist band at all checkpoints on the course and then return to the finish line

At no time during the event may a competitor impede another competitor. Any jostling/hassling (involving contact) for position in transition area at finish line will result in

disqualification. Unsportsmanlike conduct/actions will result in disqualification. Any competitor failing to meet all checkpoints will be disqualified from the event.

Five Stroke Rule

If a competitor falls, he/she will be allowed 5 strokes to get back on his or her feet and stand up. This rule is in effect so a paddler does not achieve an advantage by not

standing up. Each competitor must complete the course in a standing position on their board (this ruling is subject to change as determined by the Event Director).

Leg Ropes

SUP competitors must wear a leg rope during the entire Event. Only upon completion of event may a SUP competitor remove leg rope to run to finish line.

Protests

A written protest must be filed within 30 minutes of the last competitor finishing the event. Protests must be filed with the Beach Marshal. The Event Director, Event

Marshal and associated event officials will determine the outcome of any protest filed.
