GREETINGS FROM 4TH AND CHEW! The fiscal year 2015-2016 was a record- setting year for the Sacred Heart Foundation and we are delighted to share with you this year’s Philanthropy Report. We want to extend our sincere appreciation to all our donors, and it is because of your support we were able to raise over $1.6 million in both unrestricted and restricted funds. Whether you were a sponsor for one of our special event fundraisers, made a gift to the Annual Fund or participated in our Highmark Walk, you helped us continue to live our mission of providing quality healthcare and wellness for all individuals in our community, with special concern for the sick and poor.

Thanks for your support,

SPECIAL EVENT FUNDRAISINGEach year, the Foundation hosts three special event fundraisers, which are generously supported by businesses and individuals in our community. Because of their efforts, Links to the Heart, Night of Chance and Shoot for a Cause saw nearly 400 attendees and raised $165,000 to benefit the hospital’s Annual Fund. The Annual Fund is the lifeblood of our hospital and is the most immediate source of funds for our most critical financial needs. We would like to particularly thank our top four corporate sponsors who participated in all of our events this past fiscal year, BB&T, B. Braun Medical Inc., Boyle Construction and Capital BlueCross. Please review our list of Annual Fund donors to see our other community sponsors. We hope you’ll join us for our upcoming events!

LINKS TO THE HEART: AUGUST 17, 2015Hosted by hospital board member and friend, Mr. William Straccia, our 24th annual golf tournament raised $45,000 with a record number of attendees, selling out the event for the first time! Golfers enjoyed a spectacular course at Lehigh Country Club and socialized with community members, doctors and friends of the hospital.

NIGHT OF CHANCE: NOVEMBER 6, 2015With a new venue for 2015, the crown jewel of our three events sure did sparkle! Held at DeSales University, the evening boasted a silent auction, spectacular dinner with a pasta bar and carving station, open bar and a fun variety of casino games. We had over 200 attendees and the night raised $88,000, an almost $20,000 increase from 2014. CEO John Nespoli welcomed the guests with an update about the hospital which included news on the ground-breaking of the new Sacred Heart Senior Living Center, which will offer special diabetic services on the ground floor to the residents of downtown Allentown.

SHOOT FOR A CAUSE: MAY 10, 2016Raising over $32,000 this year, our newest event saw an increased number of attendees and a whole lot of fun at Lehigh Valley Sporting Clays!

NIGHT OF CHANCE: FRIDAY, NOVEMBER 4, 2016

SHOOT FOR A CAUSE: TUESDAY, MAY 9, 2017

once they hit a certain donation level!

Sacred Heart and its people have enhanced my life professionally, personally, and spiritually, and for this I am grateful. I therefore feel that by donating to the employee campaign, I am contributing to the continued existence, and mission of Sacred Heart in the community, as well as the stability of jobs for the people I work with.” Vincianne Kozak, RN, BS

I donate to Sacred Heart Foundation’s Annual Fund because I believe in this hospital and the care we provide to the community. Sacred Heart is this gem in the Lehigh Valley where the culture is caring and friendly. We have world renowned physicians providing amazing care to our patients that enhance their daily lives. Where else can you walk down the hall and be greeted by just about everyone? It’s my way of giving back to something I feel strongly about.”Barbara Wood, Marketing Coordinator

THE HIGHMARK WALK FOR A HEALTHY COMMUNITYFor the first time, the hospital was chosen as one of 26 not-for-profits to participate in the Highmark Walk for a Healthy Community, a fundraiser hosted by Highmark, with 100% of the funds raised by the hospital to go directly to a project of our choice. We had over 160 participants and donors and raised almost $21,000, more than doubling our original goal of $10,000! We have chosen to put the funds towards the renovation of our Older Adult Behavioral Medicine Center. Please continue to the next page to see more information about our project! Listed below are donors who contributed to the walk. We thank all our participants for making our first walk year a huge success! We have been fortunate enough to be selected to participate again in 2017.

THE OLDER ADULT BEHAVIORAL MEDICINE CENTERThe OABMC established in 1994, is committed to treating adults 55 years and older with behavioral health conditions. Conditions include dementia and depression. Dementia is a general term used for many conditions that affect the brain’s ability to function normally. Dementia can cause confusion, problems with memory, a loss of ability to take care of oneself and an inability to control emotions. Many of the changes to be faced as individual’s age - retirement, death of friends and loved ones, increased isolation, or medical problems can lead to depression. Left untreated, depression affects much more than just mood, but can greatly impact a patient’s physical health.

Our 28-bed unit assists adults who need extensive treatment to return to their daily lives because of these conditions. Based on U.S. Census information, the 55+ demographic in the Lehigh Valley is growing significantly, and thus the need for the OABMC is ever increasing. Unfortunately, our unit does not aesthetically represent the good work the staff at Sacred Heart is doing on this floor, and studies have shown that hospital floors that resemble a more home-like environment aid in the healing process. Thanks to the Highmark Walk, local private foundations, individual donors and corporate partners, we have raised $90,000 to put towards the refurbishment of this floor, to make it a more home-like environment for patients and their families. Plans include refurbishing common area rooms that are the main meeting space for patients and their families. The areas will receive new painting, flooring, lighting and furniture.

Thanks to our donors below for their generous contributions to this project!

ANNUAL FUND, JULY 1, 2015-JUNE 30, 2016Gifts to the Annual Fund have a powerful impact on our hospital, supporting any immediate financial concern that may arise. This fund is considered the “lifeblood” of our hospital and is our single most important yearly fundraising effort. Gifts to this fund can be designated as “unrestricted” meaning they will go towards the most immediate financial need, or as “restricted” where a donor will designate where he/she would like the funds to have the most effect. We are so grateful to each and every one of our donors for their support and are pleased to say we have increased our contributions from last fiscal year, raising a total of $606,000!

The Legacy Society was created as a way to recognize and thank donors who have made provisions in their estate

plans for a gift to Sacred Heart Hospital, recognizing that the gift may be postponed until after their lifetimes. The name “Legacy Society” was chosen to acknowledge the fact that the benefits of such gifts create a perpetual legacy

for our Hospital. Additionally the Legacy Society helps the hospital to build long-term financial stability.

Uses of the GiftsLegacy Society members, like all donors, are free to designate the areas within the institution where their gift is to be used and applied. They are encouraged to enter into an endowment or expenditure agreement with the

Foundation Office documenting for future generations the mutual intentions of all parties.
