The O-Train Confederation Line project is the first stage in Ottawa’s future light rail network. The 12.5 kilometre electric rail system will replace existing diesel powered buses, providing rapid transit between Blair Station in the east and Tunney’s Pasture Station in the west. The route includes 13 stations and a 2.5 kilometre tunnel that will alleviate congestion through the downtown core. This look-ahead outlines the construction activities through 2016.
Construction has been divided into three segments along the Light Rail Transit (LRT) alignment corridor:
• East Segment (includes Blair, Cyrville, St-Laurent, Tremblay, Hurdman, and Lees stations and the Belfast Yard Maintenance and Storage Facility)
• Central Segment (includes uOttawa, Rideau, Parliament, and Lyon stations and the 2.5 kilometre tunnel where, this year, work on the caverns, stations and running tunnel will continue)
• West Segment (includes Pimisi, Bayview and Tunney’s Pasture stations)
Construction on the Confederation Line began in 2013 and is on schedule. Works continue in all segments.
In 2016, a number of significant construction activities will occur:
•The Belfast Yard Maintenance and Storage Facility will be completed.
• The last section of running tunnel between Rideau and Parliament stations will be excavated.
• Construction of stations in the east segment and integrated stations in the central segment will continue. Station construction will begin in the west segment.
•Work on the guideway will continue across the O-Train Confederation Line alignment.
•Queen Street renewal works will begin.

Superstructure: Superstructure construction involves work to the aboveground structure.
Overhead Catenary System (OCS): OCS is a system of overhead wires used to supply electricity to light rail vehicles.
Guideway: The O-Train Confederation Line’s ‘guideway’ is the footprint along which the light rail vehicles will travel.
Architectural finishes: Architectural finishes involve doors, masonry, millwork and flooring.

•Some disruption is unavoidable when building a project of this size and scope.
•Public access to residences will be maintained, although temporary inconveniences may occur when crews are working in the immediate area.
•Businesses in the construction area remain open and accessible and welcome your continued patronage.
•Cyclists are not permitted to ride through active construction areas; alternate routes will be provided and should be used for public and worker safety.
•All efforts will be made to ensure multi-use pathway access is maintained during construction if public and worker safety permits. Detours will be provided where closures are required for public safety.
•Businesses and residents may experience general disruption associated with truck traffic, noise from crews and heavy equipment, vibration, as well as impacts from excavation, elevated guideway work, station construction, and general construction activity.
•Crews will endeavour to minimize disruption to businesses and residents in the area, and we thank you for your understanding while we build.
•Throughout Confederation Line construction and operation, Rideau Transit Group (RTG) is adhering to noise and vibration standards defined in the Project Agreement.
•The public can access construction and traffic management information by visiting the City of Ottawa’s website, calling 3-1-1, following the City’s Ottawa Traffic Twitter feed @Ottawa_Traffic or signing up to receive regular updates at ottawa.ca/confederationline.
•The Confederation Line team wants to ensure everyone is safe and aware around Confederation Line construction sites. Please adhere to all safety signage and never enter a construction site.
