For applicants who have fulfilled the minimum entrance requirements, admission scores are calculated for selection purposes.

The information contained here is based on the admission scores (with weightings applied where appropriate) of offered applicants in the JUPAS main round

admission exercise. Students admitted through special admission routes (other experiences and achievements, principal's nominations, sports talents, disabled

applicants and Home Affairs Bureau Multi-Faceted Excellence Scholarship) are not included.

Students are reminded that because of the different weightings adopted, the admission scores are not comparable across programmes and different admission

years. The sample cases are for reference only and should not be used to predict the chance of admission. The selection criteria vary each year, and many types

of scores are used in the selection process. In addition to public examination results, other factors (such as band choices, interview performance, etc.) may also

be considered.

Selection Criteria

EdUHK adopts a holistic approach in the assessment of applicants' suitability for teacher education

and other complementary discipline programmes. In selecting students for their full-time

undergraduate and higher diploma programmes, the University takes into account their public

examination results, band choices, non-academic achievements, school principal's recommendations

and interview performance etc. For entry to the specific programmes such as Chinese, English,

Mathematics, Music, Physical Education and Visual Arts, applicants have to demonstrate a required

level of competence in the subject area. For example, applicants for Mathematics major should

possess Level 3 or above in HKDSE Mathematics (Compulsory Part) and Level 2 or above in Module 1

or Module 2 of Mathematics (Extended Part).

Students nominated under the JUPAS School Principal's Nominations Scheme (SPN) and the

University's Undergraduate Programme Nominations Scheme will be considered favourably with

good school reference reports and interview performance.

Explanatory Notes on the Calculation of Average HKDSE Scores

Starting from 2013-14, one of the following mechanisms is adopted for calculating the average HKDSE

scores for Bachelor’s Degree programmes:

∘ 4X + 1 Best Elective: The 4 core subjects including Chinese Language, English Language, Mathematics

and Liberal Studies, plus the "best" elective subject will be taken into account.

∘ Any Best 5 Subjects: The "best" 5 HKDSE subjects will be taken into account.

∘ Chinese & English Languages + Any Best 3 Subjects: Chinese Language and English Language, plus

any 3 "best" subjects will be taken into account.

For Higher Diploma programmes, the Chinese & English Languages + Any Best 3 Subjects mechanism is

used. The average HKDSE score point total of admittees is calculated based on their results in Chinese,

English and 3 other subjects which have the best results.

When calculating the average HKDSE scores, subject weighting is not applied and HKDSE level attainments are

converted to level points as follows:

∘ Core and Elective Subjects

5** = 7, 5* = 6, 5 = 5, 4 = 4, 3 = 3, 2 = 2, 1 = 1 and Unclassified = 0

∘ Applied Learning Subjects:

Attained with Distinction (accepted as Level 3 at HKDSE) = 3,

Attained = 0 (applicable to Bachelor’s Degree programmes only),

Attained (accepted as Level 2 at HKDSE) = 2 (applicable to Higher Diploma programmes only)

∘ Other Languages:

A = 5, B = 4, C = 3, D = 2, E = 1, Others = 0
