CELEBRATING ARTS IN MEDICINE!
SAVE THE DATE!
Join us on May 19th at 6 pm at the CityArtsFactory in Orlando for an amazing celebration of over 100 pieces of art created by our patients, caregivers, and family members. Each year, with the help of Sam Flax and Baker Barrios, we exhibit the newly created artwork. The community is invited to come and enjoy the celebration of creativity and life, and meet the artists both in person and through their biographies. Some art pieces will be available for sale. The art exhibit will run until June 11th and is open for viewing from 11 am – 6 pm, Tuesday through Saturday. Please contact us with any questions 321.841.5056.
The Arts in Medicine program is blossoming and blooming! Over 75 new artists have been busy painting on the outpatient chemotherapy floor, attending the monthly workshops, and learning new art mediums. Our new Resident Artist, Valerie Kelley, along with Angilyn Watson, and three volunteers have been teaching seven different art mediums! Integrating art
into patient care enhances well-being, decreases the stress and anxiety of dealing with a life-threatening diagnosis, and lessens the impact of the beeps, buzzers, and needles related to treatment.
Many people are apprehensive about creating a piece of art and will say things, like, “I can’t even draw a stick figure.” We encourage everyone to interact with the art materials, provide fine art instruction, and allow the creativity to flow. Many patients are pleasantly shocked when they look at the finished product, and tell us they never thought they would create something so well. Family members and caregivers often start helping with the art and the whole experience becomes a wonderful memory with a beautiful piece
of art as a lasting treasure.
There are two free monthly workshops that are sponsored by Arts in Medicine.
A variety of art mediums are offered, such as watercolors, acrylics, pastels, drawing, collage, quilling, crocheting, and many forms of mosaic creations. One recent workshop explored the Japanese art of Kintsugi – the art of breaking pottery, gluing the pieces back together, and painting the cracks gold. Patients often make insightful comments about how the art activity reminds them of their lives. Many times patients offer support to each other while they are creating art, and have formed life-long friendships – the most beautiful creation of all.

Thank You!Our program of support services, wellness, education, social connections, information assistance, and referral is provided free of charge thanks to the amazing efforts
of caring and supportive individuals and companies dedicated to help fight the battle against cancer and ease the burden of all those whose lives have been impacted.
Support Services Sponsors
Co-founded by Elaine Lustig and Sheila Solomon in 1993, Women Playing For T.I.M.E.® is a volunteer organization dedicated to making a positive impact on women facing cancer. Since its inception, WPFT has raised over $10 million through signature golf
and tennis tournaments and a variety of other events throughout the year. Funds directly benefit cancer Technology, Immediate diagnosis, Mammography,
and Education (T.I.M.E.) at UF Health Cancer Center – Orlando Health.
Did you know that community-owned hospitals provide 95 percent of all vital but often unprofitable
health services? As Central Florida’s only community-owned hospital, Orlando Health reinvests all available
revenues into programs, equipment, facilities, and medical staff. Since 1918, we have been committed to providing the best quality healthcare for our region
and citizens. The Orlando Health Foundation is proud to honor the 1918 Society - an association of individuals deeply interested in the strategic priorities of Orlando
Health and in ensuring the availability of quality healthcare services. Members make philanthropic gifts to help provide leading-edge patient care and services, fund critical expansion needs and purchase the latest technology and equipment – all of which are vital to keeping pace with our community’s growing needs
and the rapid advances in medicine.
