The National Wrestling Hall of Fame and MuseumThe future of America depends upon the existence of a society comprised of individuals with leadership
qualities based on self-discipline, self-reliance, and self-confidence. The sport of wrestling helps build thesecharacteristics in youth, regardless of their physical, economic, cultural or geographic backgrounds. The NationalHall of Fame seeks to broaden the understanding and development of these values in the following manner:
1. Through recognition of those who have demonstrated these characteristics while achieving ordeveloping excellence in the sport as wrestlers, coaches and contributors.
2. Through reognition of those who have demonstrated these characteristics while achievingexcellence in other walks of life after participating in wrestling.
3. Through the maintenance of documentation of those memorabilia that depicts and preservesthe history of the sport.
4. Through the stimulation and encouragement of those who establish and conduct wrestlingactivities at all levels nationwide.
5. Through the development of State Chapters that will continuously strive to enhance the imageof wrestling at the state and national levels.

Welcome,
It is my distinct honor and pleasure to welcomeyou to our 2016 New Jersey Chapter banquet andinduction ceremony. This year marks New Jersey’s 16thclass of inductees into the National Wrestling Hall of Fame’s StateChapter program.
This year the NWHOF is celebrating its 40th Anniversary as a culturalinstitution for the sport of wrestling in the United States. The Board of
Governors is grateful to our State Chapter volunteer leaders in New Jersey for representing our organizationwithin your wrestling community, and for annually recognizing the heritage of our sport’s most prominentlegacy makers.
The individuals being honored here today are members of a great mission and legacy not just in their state,but in our sport. They are heroes to the people they have impacted through their work in the sport andbeyond, and provide an inspiration to future generations. Their dedication, service, and leadership build andsustain our sport one individual, one program, and one community at a time.
Your state chapter and the honorees from the State of New Jersey are truly inspirational in their efforts tohelp grow and fortify our sport and their communities.
On behalf of the Board of Governors of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame, I want to congratulate thehonorees being inducted today. Their names will soon appear in the newly renovated National Wrestling Hallof Fame & Museum’s John T. Vaughan Hall of Honors in Stillwater, Oklahoma. Henry Boresch (Deceased) Outstanding American
Newton, New Jersey – “Home of Henry Boresch, Father of New Jersey Wrestling”
In his 38 seasons at the helm for Newton High School from 1927 –1964, after introducing wrestling as a minor sport to the school in1926, Coach Boresch led the Braves to 11 State Championships and 13 undefeated seasons, with 76 individual state champions.
Boresch’s coaching record was an impressive 245-38-8, .856 winning percentage. More importantly hespread the sport throughout the state, which today has 311 high schools with wrestling programs.
Throughout his tenure he was known for teaching values, sportsmanship, maturity and helping preparehundreds of young men for their futures. He tempered discipline with humor while stressing hard work,honesty and loyalty.
Among his best known wrestling protégé’s were NCAA Champion Harry Lanzi, Hall of Fame Coach Joe Scalzo,and highly acclaimed Penn State Coach Rich Lorenzo, National AAU Heavyweight Champion Dick Vaughnand three time EIWA titlist Emil Perona.
Boresch was an outstanding wrestler as a youngster, winning five National YMCA titles at 115 lb. and 121 lb.as well as 1928 Olympic trials. He was disqualified from the Olympic team, as a coach, he was considered a professional.
For his leadership in establishing the sport of wrestling in New Jersey and for his lifetime contributions tothe growth of young men, Boresch is honored as a distinguished member of the National Wrestling Hall of Fame (1995).

Dr. Mark R. McLaughlin Outstanding American
Distinguished Achievement in the Field of: MEDICINE
Dr. Mark McLaughlin is an internationally registered neurosurgeon, authorand teacher. He has been featured in Parade Magazine for his efforts inRussia in teaching neurosurgical techniques.
After graduating from William & Mary with a BA in Philosophy, he receivedhis medical degree from Virginia Commonwealth University and completeda neurosurgical residency at the University of Pittsburgh. He thencompleted a fellowship in complex surgery at Emory University in 2000.
He considers his work with Dr. Peter Jannetta, viewed as one of the fathers of modern neurosurgery in theworld, as his professional “Badge of Honor.”
Mark is the medical director for Princeton Brain and Spine Care, and Director of Neurosurgery at the UniversityMedical Center at Princeton.
He is an international speaker, author and frequent medical media expert for brain and spinal cord injuries. His achievements include teaching the latest neurosurgical techniques to doctors in Russia, being selected a“Top Doc” in the nation by Newsweek and Castle Conolly.
After Dr. McLaughlin completed his training, he returned to the NJ area and began coaching the PrincetonAmateur Wrestling Society (PAWS). Over the past 12 years, McLaughlin has grown the program into a wellrespected youth program.
At the Pingry School, he accumulated a 99-10 record with 70 falls. During his 4 years, he became a NJ Prep State Champion (1982), and a finalist in the National Prep Tournament and was awarded All Americanhonorable mention by Amateur Wrestling News.
McLaughlin attended William & Mary where he became a four year starter and captained his team to a VirginiaState Championship in1988. During Mark’s senior year, he won the E.I.W.A. championship at 142lbs. He wasawarded All American honors twice, and named William & Mary’s Outstanding Senior Athlete and Wrestler ofthe Ddecade. In 2000, he was inducted into the William & Mary Hall of Fame.
He and his wife Julie have four children, Kaleigh, Alex, Patrick and Trevor.

Deane D. Oliver, Jr. (Deceased) Lifetime Service (COLLEGE)
Deane Oliver graduated from Kingston High School in Pennsylvania,now known as Wyoming Seminary. He was an outstanding high schoolwrestler and highly recruited by college coaches. Deane’s high schoolcoach was John Reese, who later became a very successful coach atWilkes College. Deane chose to attend Rutgers University, where hemajored in Biology and was coached by National Hall of Fame CoachDick Voliva, a former NCAA and Olympic Silver Medalist.
Deane was a three-year letterman and EIWA place winner all three years from 1954-1956. Freshman werenot eligible to compete on the varsity teams till the 70’s. In 1956, he was team Co-Captain along withNWHOF-NJ chapter inductee Gene D'Alessandro (Class of 2008). Deane’s dual meet record was a team best(43-2). Each year he was defeated in the semi-finals to the eventual NCAA champion, Pittsburgh’s three-time NCAA champion, and later U.S. Naval Academy Coach, Ed Perry. In 1956, he lost to Johnny Johnston(Penn State) who later coached for many years at Princeton University (NWHOF-NJ Class of 2001).
After graduating from Rutgers University he earned his Masters Degree while coaching the Rutgersfreshman team. He then spent 3 years in the Navy coaching at Navy Prep School in Bainbridge, MD. Hereturned to Rutgers for the 1960-61 season with his wife Shirli, and 2 young sons, Deane III and Doug. Hissons wrestled for NWHOF-NJ Inductee Norm Winter (Class of 2004) at Piscataway High School, bothwinning Regional Championships and placing in the top eight in the NJSIAA Championships. Theycontinued their careers as varsity wrestlers for Rutgers under their father. Doug placed second in the ACCChampionships his senior year and was named Rutgers Outstanding Student Athlete.
Deane Oliver coached the freshman wrestling team at Rutgers from 1961-1968 and was appointed HeadWrestling Coach upon the retirement of Dick Voliva in 1968. Deane coached Rutgers from1969-1984 with atotal record of 203-152-8. He also coached two-time All-American Anthony Surage (1981 & 1982), and 33EIWA place winners.

Al Reinoso Lifetime Service (COLLEGE)
Al began his coaching career at St. Benedicts Prep (1966 & 1967). Hethen moved on as an Assistant Wrestling Coach to Seton Hall University(1968-73). He later became the Head Coach at Seton Hall from 1974 to 1995.
While at St. Benedicts, his team won the New Jersey Prep School StateChampionship (1967), and also won the National Prep Team StateChampionships that same season.
At Seton Hall University, Al compiled a 242-120 overall record, qualifying 18 wrestlers for the NCAATournament. His team also finished 2nd in the National Catholic College Tournament (1980 & 1984); 2nd in the Metropolitan Tournament (1986); 2nd in the New England Conference Tournament (1992); and 1st in the Big Northeast Conference Tournament (1995). Seton Hall also finished 20th in the NCAADivision I Wrestling Tournament (1993), and improved to finish 18th in (1995). In the 1991-1992 season,Reinoso qualified six wrestlers to the NCAA Tournament.
Other accolades which Al has received include St. Benedicts Prep Hall of Fame as a coach and an athlete(1986). He was the captain of the team at Benedicts when they amassed 40 consecutive victories, NationalCatholic Coach of the Year (1984), Metropolitan Coach of the Year (1986), and New England Coach of theYear (1992,1993). Al was also an All-State football player while at Benedicts and continued playing bothsports at Villanova University. Reinoso continued playing football with the New York Jets before pursuing acareer in education.
Al was a principal of Orange High School and Asbury Park High School. He also coached football at St. BenedictsPrep, Roselle High School, Fair Lawn High School, and was an Assistant Coach at St. Peters University.
Al resides with his wife Tessa in Asbury Park and Barcelona, Spain. His family includes three children, Alicia Bittiger, Al Reinoso Jr., and Anthony (Wrestling Coach at Linden High School). They also enjoy 10 grandchildren.

Samuel Appello Lifetime Service (HIGH SCHOOL)
The Roselle Park wrestling program has enjoyed unparallelled successunder the tutelage and leadership of Mr. Sam Appello for 19 seasons.During those years his early vision of uniting an entire wrestlingprogram from the recreation levels to the high school program becamea reality. His deep commitment to excellence and consistency on alllevels, have been the key components to continued success.
A former Roselle Park graduate and varsity wrestler, Coach Appello began his coaching and teaching careerat Park in 1974. Sam has compiled an impressive career record of 286-56-4. Some of Mr. Appello’saccolades include, Union County Coach of the Year (1985, 1991, 1997), District X Coach of the Year (1988,1991, 1997, 2002), Region III Coach of the Year(1988, 1997).
Team titles during Sam’s career include 14 Conference Championships, 12 State Sectional Championships,10 Union County Championships and Group I State Championship 1997. Individual titles include (Wrestlers) totaling 71 District Champions, 46 Region Champions, numerous county champs and 12 state placewinners.
Mr. Appello was also an Assistant Baseball Coach (1975-1985), Assistant Softball Coach (1992-2012),Assistant Football Coach (1975 – 2012).
Despite all of the championships and awards that Sam deservedly received, he always will be rememberedas a class act and by his humble nature.
Sam and his wife, Lorraine, have proudly raised three fine children, Adrienne, Patrick, and Danny. Sam and Lorraine now reside in Rio Rancho, New Mexico near their grandchildren, Ryleigh (12), Morgan (7), and Cooper (4).

William E. Henderson Lifetime Service (HIGH SCHOOL)
After 44 years of wrestling, William E. Henderson, Region I Coach of theYear (2000), had this to say:
“ Thank you wrestling for everything that has come my way.Because of wrestling I have experienced many wonderfulaspects of life. The opportunity to have wrestled for CoachMirshak as my high school coach. The chance to travel all overthe country and meet so many interesting people. Theexperience as a young man coaching at Brick High School, with some of the most talented and dedicated individuals.
Wrestling brought me to Sparta and made it possible for me to continue coaching many hard working athletes,along with the opportunity to coach my son. Wrestling has taken me on a great adventure for 44 years and I owe a lot to the sport. I only pray that I have given a little back.”
Bill was born in Morristown, New Jersey and presently lives in Lake Mohawk, NJ. He earned a Bachelor ofScience degree from Moorhead State University (Minnesota). Bill was the Varsity Coach at Brick TownshipHigh School from 1970-1977, and Varsity Coach at Sparta High School from 1983-2000. While at Sparta,his team won the NJSIAA North Section Group III Championship (2000).
Individual titles included, Dan McCullough two time State Champion; Tony Caravella NJSIAA 4th place, and NCAA All American; Jeff Preadmore 2nd in the State, and Jim Miller 5th in the NJSIAA Tournament. He coached 23 District Champion and 9 Region Champions.
Bill also coached Football (1981-1998) and Track (1993-1998). Bill was also the founder of the SpartaMarine Corp fitness team for boys and girls. Other accolades included NJSIAA State Champion (1965)(Roxbury HS), Roxbury High School Hall of Fame for wrestling and football, Moorhead State Wrestler(1966-1969), 6th place NAIA (1967), 3rd place NAIA (1968), 6th place NAIA after breaking his leg in thesemi-finals 1969 and All-American (1969).
Bill and his wife, Pat, have raised a wonderful family of six children, Jackie, William, Chris, Mandy, Michele,and Kelly. Now they are enjoying their retirement with seven grandchildren.

G. Thomas Hutchinson Lifetime Service (HIGH SCHOOL)
Tom Hutchinson began his coaching career at Blair Academy (1972 – 1982). His teams have won the New Jersey IndependentSchool Wrestling Championships for his last nine years. In1974,1981and 1982 his team won the National Prep SchoolChampionships at Lehigh University finishing second on two otheroccasions. Many outstanding collegiate wrestlers have been productsof Coach Hutchinson’s tutelage including Olympic gold Medalist BobbyWeaver, Kelly Ward NCAA Champion (Iowa State), Mark LiebermanNCAA Champion (Lehigh Univ.), EIWA Champion Randy Miller(Clarion), and Colin Kilrain (Lehigh Univ.).
Tom was the Director of the New Jersey US Wrestling Federation from 1974 through 1980. During hissummer months he taught at numerous camps including Lehigh, Michigan, Clarion, Trenton State, US NavalAcademy, and Russ Houk’s camp at Bloomsburg University.
Coach Hutchinson received his Bachelor of Science degree in Industrial Engineering from Lehigh Universityin 1972, where he also received his Master of Arts.
Tom also became an Assistant Wrestling Coach at Lehigh University (1982-1988) and then was named HeadCoach in (1988-94). He was selected to be a member of the national coaching staff for freestyle wrestling;Head Coach (1989), National Team Pan American Championships, Colorado; Head Coach (1990), Espoir inWorld Cup, Canada; Head Coach (1993), National Espoir Team Championships, Greece; Assistant WrestlingCoach, Warren Hills High School, NJ (1994-1996); Head Wrestling Coach, The Hill School, PA (2003-04), andAssistant Coach, The Hill School, PA. (1997-2014).
Individual Titles also included 23 National Prep School Champions, and 14 Division I All Americans, 4 NCAAChampion and one Olympic Champion.
Tom’s wrestling career included two time EIWA Champion, Division I All American, Team Captain, NationalUSA Wrestling Coach of the Year 1982.
Tom and his wife, Mary, of seventeen years live in Topton, Pennsylvania, and have a son, Jak (23).

Louis Jasmine Lifetime Service (HIGH SCHOOL)
Lou wrestled at Lodi High School for four years, and as a senior in 1950 completed the dual meet season undefeated. He was a memberof the New Jersey All-Star team that wrestled against the New YorkAll-Star team in 1950. In 1961 Lou placed second in the National AAU Tournament.
Most of Lou’s life has been dedicated to the sport of wrestling,volunteering as a coach at Lodi High School for ten years and turningout several district and region champions.
As an official in New Jersey he was President of the Northeast Chapter for 25 years. He officiated 23 District,23 Regions, and the State Tournament for 22 years. He was the recipient of the prestigious “Mirshak Award”for outstanding officiating in 2007. He was selected to the Bergen County Hall of Fame in 1997. In 1989,Lou was the recipient of the William F. Powley Service to Wrestling Award; presented at the Bergen CountyCoaches Holiday Tournament. Lou was the Chief Official at this Tournament for 23 years.
Lou enlisted in the New Jersey State Police, where he became their chief polygraph expert. In 1973 the“Meritorious Service Award” was presented to Lou for gaining over 200 murder confessions. In 1976 Loureceived a Certificate of Commendation for solving 15 arsons. In 1977 he again received a Certificate ofCommendation for solving an Infanticide, involving a two-month old child. He also received over 500Letters of Commendation from Chief of Police, Prosecutors and Judges.
Lou Jasmine was also the co-author of “Tales for the Polygraph”, The Cannibal.
Lou resides in Lodi with his wife, Rose, for over 50 years. They have three sons, Louis, Raymond and Charles.
