DIRECTOR

Tourism makes a difference in McLean County! Tourism for our area includes

business, weekend get-a-ways, motorcoach tours, university activities,

conventions, meetings, and sporting events. The Bloomington-Normal Area

Convention and Visitors Bureau’s major funding is through the hotel tax

dollars which the visitors pay when they stay here. The more visitors the

BNACVB and partners bring to BN, the more new money in our area. These

visitors shop, dine and stay in our hotels creating revenues from the taxes

they pay.

In 2016, through the bureau’s efforts in marketing, 250,000 visitors

representing 45,305 group rooms contributed to the local economy.

For every dollar the Convention and Visitors Bureau receives through the

visitor paid hotel tax, $10.20 is returned to the local economy. It is our

goal to give a successful financial return on the investment that the City of

Bloomington, the Town of Normal and the State of Illinois has granted us.

In this annual report we have noted our accomplishments in 2016. Our

significant partnerships with hotels, attractions, local and state governments,

athletic partners, volunteers and corporate sponsors make these

accomplishments possible.

We are all working together to make a difference in McLean County!

Hotel and Attractions Meeting

The BNACVB sales staff hosted a hotel/attractions meeting

at Miller Park Zoo. The purpose of the meeting was two-fold:

• To educate our hotels and attractions about the

BNACVB projects currently underway, as well as

programs to be implemented in the future

• To allow our hospitality community members to network

with each other to ultimately offer our visitors an

improved experience when in Bloomington-Normal

A survey was emailed through Survey Monkey to all of the

hotels and attractions in order to gather feedback regarding

their relationship to the BNACVB and what things could be

improved on. Some of the responses included:

• “Fantastic, staff is always helpful and accommodating to

my hotel’s needs!”

• “It seems to be going well. More festivals”

• “Continue to keep us updated with events/needs”

• “Promotional opportunities and regional tourism

initiatives”

• “Quarterly meetings”
