Dr.ZhonghanLiuistheauthorofthebookAh,Guling!.ThebooktellsatruestoryofthelateProfessorMiltonGardnerofUCDavisandhisspecialbondwithGuling,aChineseresorttowninFujianProvince.GardnerwasborninChina,wherehisparentsweremissionaries,andspentthefirstyearsofhislifetherebeforemovingbacktotheU.S.in1911.Towardtheendofhislife,heofenspokeofGuling,thevillagewherehewasbornbutneverrevisited.Gardner’swidow,Elizabeth,triedtofulfillhiswishbyvisi9ngthevillagebutwasnotabletofindit.Dr.Liu,onceagraduatestudentatUCDavis,livedwiththeGardners.Hehelpedtoiden9fythevillageasbeingnearFuzhou.Hefirstwroteanar9cleaboutthestory,whichwaspublishedinthePeople’sDaily.ThestorycaughttheeyeofthepartychiefofFuzhouatthat9me,XiJinping.XiarrangedforElizabethGardnertovisitGulingin1992andtomeetthechildhoodfriendsofherlatehusband.
