Whitaker Center for Science and the Arts and Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center have created an innovativepartnership designed to stimulate the interest of high schoolstudents in careers in health care. With the support of HighmarkBlueShield, Surgery Live! at WhitakerCenter is connecting students to theoperating rooms of Hershey MedicalCenter through interactive high-definitionvideoconferencing technology.

Students see and hear the surgical teams in real time and are able to ask questions at appropriate points during surgicalprocedures. In addition to explaining the operation as it happens, members of the surgical team describe their responsibilities andcareers in health care, making those careers more interesting and accessible. Post-visit educational activities maximize the impact of each Surgery Live! session.

We have seen other surgeries at the Whitaker Center and this doctor explained the procedure very well to the students - he was very detailed, yet they could understand the information.Very well done! We will definitely be back! Love this program!- Teacher, North Schuylkill Sr. High School
