May 2020 Page 4

As I sit here social distancing from all of you I can’t help but think about how nice and quiet it is. I’m not sure if it’s a blessing or a curse that I don’t even have a wife to argue with. It gets lonely but I have Peeve to keep me on my toes. As a typical cat as long as I worship him and fulfill his every need he promises not to kill me in my sleep. I sit by the win-dow and just hope a squirrel will run by so I can try and make new friends. They are starting to look at me with a little squirrelly side eye. I think they know I’m losing my s&#t. I should probably stop trying to talk to them. It seems very anti-social because the vodka I leave out for them is gone but never a Thank you card. Maybe I’ll have better luck with the rabbits. Updates to follow.

Thank goodness I continue to work or I would really lose my mind. Weekends are the worst and I have never looked forward to going to work on Monday more in my life. But, things are starting to open up slowly and I truly hope we are not getting too anxious and its too soon. I really don’t know what’s going to be the plan in the long term but this likely will change how we do things in the future, just like 911 changed air travel this likely will change commerce, restaurants working from home etc. for a very long time.

Recently we have had a couple things come up regarding the club members. Norm Gerwien has had a health scare that up to this point can’t be fully explained. Lets all continue to send our thoughts and prayer to the Gerwien family. Karyn: Thank you so much for keeping us so well informed.

Val and Annette have welcomed a grandchild into the family and I haven’t heard the full details but I’m hopeful all is well.

Some of you have received payment notifications from the Association. I am currently working on getting the member-ship list completely updated and we will get the dues paid with Tristam. Don’t pay as an individual.

The PPP is still on. I think some people are concerned, and its certainly understandable, but Vail Lake KOA is a private campground and we are still good to go at this point. Our reservation numbers are low but I would like to remind every-one that if we cannot go for any reason we will get our money back. Please make your reservation if you’re planning on going. Call 951-303-0173 to make reservations. Tell them you are with the Drifters Jeep club to get the group rate. Call me if you have any questions.

I am hopeful we can return to jeeping, socializing and hanging out. I miss you all and like I have said in the past. Some more than others, you’ll figure it out.

Drifter News

May 3rd...

To all Drifters, qualifying members, honorary members, and guests:

After a few failed attempts at trying online resources such as WebEx and Zoom I have decided to suspend club business until we actually have some business to attend to. At this time we don't have any runs, meetings, banking etc. to dis-cuss. I know this won't be a popular decision for some and I will accept the fallout if any. One of our thoughts and chal-lenges is we don't know everybody's operating system, technical ability to actually successfully download the program and get online at the appropriate time and website. A big concern for me is that someone will be excluded and it will cause hurt feelings and possible confusion and angst regarding club points. I propose that all members get maximum points as if we all have gone to meetings and runs. Qualifying members will not receive points but the 6 month deadline to achieve qualified status will be suspended.

If you have any thoughts, concerns or you just want to be mad at me feel free to contact me. These are unprecedented times and I wanted to get out in front of this so there are no misunderstandings. I would like to thank Daryl Romano for doing the research and spending time with me trying to achieve our goal.

May 3rd…

Thank you all for the overwhelming support.

I’d also like to remind anyone who is local or close to Sergio's, last I heard they are open for take out. Please support them and we will have a meeting place when this gets back to normal. Also, a couple of people have mentioned having a drink with me, very cool. But how about we all raise a glass at 7:30 Thursday night and think about our friends and family and especially OUR amazing club.

Best regards, P

Originally the May run was going to be a cross country run near the end of the month. After the Covid 19 concerns a conservation run was tentatively planned for May 30th. After careful consideration and ongoing dialogue with the forest service the May run has been postponed and a possible joining of a combined future run. The trail bosses for this month did not take their responsibility lightly and were working diligently to find a way to get us out of our homes and doing something together. However it’s too soon to take the risk.

Myself and the May trail bosses appreciate your understanding.
